Dancer. MCH is close but has a high speed burst, and BRD has a lot of heavy weaving periods and sometimes requires you to think about song duration to match up with things like add phases or untargetable periods of higher end content.

You do want to swap out applicable dungeon gear when you can/if you have it/if it's stronger, but you can absolutely get to the end of each expansion simply in Poetics gear, until the MSQ gives you gear that supercedes it. And for alt classes, you don't even really need to do that.

You can. The game also passively rewards players with currency to turn in for materia as well, and the only major rush for materia happens when a raid tier and crafted gear comes out, for the raiders who are busting out pentamelded gear for prog.
So that's when it's most profitable.

the main ways are either through frontlines (which switches gamemodes every day, and has a roulette for extra wolf marks) or rival wings (a MOBA-like gamemode)
ppl mainly do frontlines through the roulette, while rival wings is popping every day now during prime time (from about 6-7pm ST?) because of moogle tomes.

savage fights are usually around 10-13 minutes at the longest, ultimates are 16-20 minutes

ultimates are faster, have much harder mechanics, last up to 17min max.
there are no checkpoints like in some final savage fights.
so if you fuck up on the final phase, it's back to the beginning with you.
