It turns out you can rescale the mahjong window so it fits within the game window,k in case anyone else has this problem.
Might try that with the Bozja essence selection window; it had the same issue, I just sort of tried to work around it.

By the time you get to stuff where it’s equal in ilvl but different substats it becomes optimization of those substats, depending on what you have, the classical ring might be better than the EX1 ring

I would say no, it's not worth it. nothing retainers bring is vital, and all the mats they bring you can already go and get yourself in waaaaaay bigger numbers in waaaaay less time
retainers are there for your quick venture lottery basically
sometimes you get expensive things out of them
the one niche for retainer stuff i can think about is monster drops for heavensward and stormblood
since you cant buy those with bicolor gemstones and the mobs they drop from can be just a small group in one place of the zone

For Bards, we used to want to delay things that interacted with dots (like Sidewinder) by at least one server tick to make sure the system had registered them as applied and dealing damage. But now that that kit interaction is removed, it no longer needs to be worried about.

I'd say it's more that the kit has been simplified over time compared to HW/SB days
Scholar used to have 4 or 5 different damage over times of varying durations that they could have active at once, which made it pretty complex to do while healing.

Personally, I never liked the DoT juggling aspect of HW/SB WHM/SCH, and trying to do more complex damage kits past "more dots" can make it get in the way of your healing when needed.
That's not even getting into ARR/HW healing to where you had to toggle a buff that allowed you to actually do decent damage at the cost of neutering your heals, as your damage spells back then looked at Intelligence instead of Mind.
