Still gotta remember to pay attention to when the quest tracker shows you an item in it, haha. I haven't found a situation yet where an item in the tracker doesn't mean "use this item in the quest".
The only difference now is that that quest, and I think one or two others like them, physically prevent you from accidentally killing a target you're supposed to use the item on.

And it needs to function that way, because the event that spawns these enemies is a spot on the ground that disappears when the player interacts with it, so if the player accidentally kills the spawned enemy, there's nothing in place to re-spawn the ground spot

i do however wonder at least sometimes how to use the thunder/thundercloud procs
escpecially when it comes to aoe i like to use the proc as soon as it comes, even if it means just before the fire -> ice switch so my rotation looks like 'thunder, fire, fire, (thunderproc), fire, ice, thunder
but that last thunder would be wasted but needed to bridge the time for the last mana tick? or should i just do another ice for simplicity

EX1 (the extreme version of the first trial, at level 83) gives accessories with ilvl 580
EX2 (level 89 trial) gives weapons with ilvl 580
both of these can be unlocked from the Wandering Minstrel in Old Sharlayan, near the port area
Aphorism (this expansion's tomestone equivalent of Allegory from ShB) can be spent on gear with ilvl 570, and can be obtained from running any level 90 content, or roulettes on a level 90
Normal raids can also give tokens to trade in for gear with ilvl 580, and is weekly locked to one token per fight per week (see !faq normalloot in #kupo-bot-spam to help you figure out what fights drop what, and how many tokens are needed for each piece). I don't quite remember where the first quest for these is located.
Classical gear (ilvl 580) is also an option, but it may still be expensive - I'm not quite sure

But basically, what I recommend doing is this:
- check out video guides for the two extremes and run those to get your weapon and your accessories, as all of these are ilvl 580
- run the normal raids to get your tokens (again, !faq normalloot in #kupo-bot-spam to see how the loot works) and get some ilvl 580 body pieces
- run level 90 content to get allagan tomestones of aphorism for ilvl 570 gear, probably whatever body pieces you don't get with your normal raid loot + the second ring
classical gear may still be a bit expensive, but I could be wrong
but that would be a market board gil sink with ilvl 580 if you don't want to do any of that^
What I listed is just the route that's going to cost you time, not money
