Having 60% makes u better than 60% of people is different that having 60% makes u better than people who didn't get that score.
If it's more packed at average, you could have a score of 70% and being better than 95% of people.

This part I think you've gotten. The misleading part was this: when new parses are added to the list, you're more likely to get someone parsing lower in the list than higher in the list. I don't think that was communicated properly.

Just for the record though because this conversation has been going on for a while: The system is skewed anyway because it purely depends on a dataset that has to be given voluntarily. Basic assumption would be that people are less likely to upload bad logs of themselves, making the data show an inaccurate picture at all times.
So best to take parse % with a grain of salt

At earlier levels refreshing in ice will pretty much line up due to shorter fire phases. But later as it increases its fine to refresh in fire as needed. You also don't have access to too many filler gcds so a t3 in ice is good

Basically, HQ and each materia is equal to a +1 (via the buffs/potion) and each +1 is worth 20%. Some methods have a max of +5 effect. What you are attempting to do is also a large factor. Going from memory here and I recommend you look up some resources on the topic.

there's a few things snapshot at the start, such as tank target for most tank busters that have 2 consecutive hits
so the main tank is snapshot targetted at the start, offtank provoke mid cast, first hit goes off on main tank, second hit on off tank

ultimately it's gonna be kinda slow regardless, solo potd is just that way, if you have 51 start unlocked you can just farm that in parties
can get to 70-75 easily off that, and then you can solo the rest fine with any class normally, back when I was doing potd solo runs I'd always turn in 20 aetherpool for grips before starting my run and I'd usually hit 99/99 at like floor 110 or so

you can get all the way to 99 in there but it's slower the higher you are, but 70 should be somewhat fast
