Well, idk if I have tips necessarily, but I think you will be relieved that it's the worst section of the game, and things does get better from there. However, if you don't enjoy it, there's nothing stopping you to try another game really.

i'm gonna take a wild guess and assume I know what you were told, enmity meter is an awful way of determining which dps is winning, like 7 times out of 10

any death will reset it, jobs like bard will naturally be low enmity even if they're doing higher damage

healers can pad their enmity by spamming heals

What do all these quest icons mean?

- These are how you reach the endgame and every other bit of content is locked behind it to some extent. MANDATORY
- These unlock a feature, instanced content, job actions, or a thing that is important for you to have. Do the ones related to your job/class and ones that unlock new content
- These usually have very little exp/gil as reward and are usually just part of the world/lore expansion. Mostly optional unless you are interested in doing them for the fluff
- These are quests you can do more than once, how often you can repeat it is up to the individual quest.

If it helps you understand what the class he's looking for is, when I played WoW (back in Legion), Holy Paladin was a tanky healer that relied on Critical Hit, wherein it received a buff when critting with its main spell that allowed it to cast incredibly chunky heals. It had access to a variety of very high power cooldowns, although was a bit weaker without them than other healers were without theirs. Although notably less mobile than most classes, it had access to the most potent defensive cooldowns in the game, both for itself and others.

While it wasn't the damage healer, it did more damage than the rest of the "pure" healers (although in a game that doesn't promote healer damage all too much) and had talents it could take to improve its healing output while dealing damage. It was typically seen as the tank healer, due to its powerful single-target healing and "Beacon of Light", which copied a percentage of all of its healing to the tank.

I personally find Sage scratches my healer itch the best coming from playing Holy Paladin, having played Astrologian the most and leveled the other healers up to 80 prior to Endwalker, but then it's only been out for a month so my experience may have a bit of recency bias

Feels like 200k is a drop in the bucket, even at my current level (75's for crafters)

You get an xp bonus (100% until level 80, 50% 80-90) to combat xp when leveling jobs under the level of your highest level. So if you have a 90 job, then you'll just automatically get that bonus to level everything else.

And of course, in theory if you're level 90 you've got all of your roulettes and dungeons and side content unlocked, so it's faster than just like, grinding FATEs or doing side quests and levequests.
