GCD = global cooldown = typically the skills with a 2.5s cooldown
Reason being they share that cooldown with several other skills
conversely, ogcds run off their own cooldown (unless stated to share a cooldown with something else)

I see the oGCDs as just free actions as someone who's also new. They're just free to use when you're waiting for the others to roll in. So I'll use them for free damage or free heals without interrupting what I'm doing at the time. Might be a bad description, but it's sort of what I do

if you pull a large of mobs would be better to take aggro of them with your aoe spells and use directly your def cds because it can be hard for the healer to heal urself when you don't use your def CDS

generally, sentinel alone then when it's off, either rampart if pull isn't close to dead or reprisal+holy sheltron, next pull rampart if it's up, arm's length+holy sheltron otherwise, then pop whatever is up, don't overcap holy sheltron and use it during other cds if you have enough, also use hallowed ground on long run pulls if the healer seem to have lost their sprint(and use yours)
basically, just make sure you always have something up and use everything, trash is the only thing that has a chance to kill you in dungeons

it's largely practice, although I still end up staring at my bar a bunch, as long as it's not far off the side and you don't tunnel vision on it you can still see what's going in the fight

Not for gil, but near the Ishgard Aetheryte should be a new vendor once you finish the HW Main quest. They sell tomestone gear, go for the shire set. That lasts until level 65 and maybe beyond
