tl;dr: each fight you clear in normal raids gives you a chance for loot. This loot is in the form of a token, which you can redeem for gear of the same type. Different slots need different numbers of tokens. Additionally, you can only get one token per fight per week. A weapon token drops from your first clear of the fourth fight per week.

When can I get my first mount?
The quest that allows you to use mounts, ''My Little Chocobo'', is unlocked by completing the level 20 main story quest ''The Company You Keep''. The quest is located at the Grand Company base you chose, and you'll need to buy a Chocobo Issuance from your Grand Company Quartermaster. You can get the 200 required Grand Company seals by doing the main story quest that comes immediately after ''The Company You Keep''.

Are there any differences between mounts?
Some mounts allow multiple people (2/4/8) to ride at once, with all mounts having the same movement speed. A partial exception to this rule is the SDS Fenrir, a mount from the Mog Station. The SDS Fenrir acts as if you have the first mount speed boost obtained from completing specific quests in the story, making it a bit faster than other mounts, but only until completing the relevant story quests for that zone.

Can I make my mount faster?
Zones have one or two ranks of mount speed that increase the ground speed of mounts. The first rank comes from completing specific quests in the main scenario quests, with the second rank coming from Riding Maps which are bought with either Allied Seals, Centurio Seals, or Bicolor Gemstones. Mount Speed Boosts do not increase the flying speed of mounts.

@vapid sluice for the Wolves' Den quest, you need to go to Moraby Drydocks, which is in Lower La Noscea. To get there, if you haven't already unlocked the teleport destination, you can either walk out the Tempest Gate in the southern end of the Upper Decks and go on foot to Moraby Drydocks, OR take the ferry from the fishermen's guild to Aleport and then a second ferry from Aleport to Candlekeep Quay
