leveling retainers is pretty simplistic. use targetted ventures until they're lvl 10 and either keep doing targetted ventures of stuff you need or do quick ventures for quick leveling
not sure if there are any crafting leveling docs out there for lower levels, but there's a leve/collectable doc for 70-80/80-90, ultimately sending retainers out is going to be based on what you need and don't want to bother getting yourself
because they are ultimately slower than you, min amount of time they can go down to is 40mins for targetted ventures

Dungeons 100% for tanks and healers. For dps trust dungeons are probably the best, but Bozja is also an option if you also have other reasons to want to to Bozja

- Carbuncle summon spells (I have 2 at lv15 right now) mention "Precious Brilliance becoming X aspected" but I don't have a spell with such a name? I'm guessing the tooltip is just written to work at a later point where you have more spells?
- Gemshine tooltip has descriptions of how it's affected by the concept of elemental "attunement"/"aspect" but it's completely nondescript: "fire attunement effect: deal fire damage" etc. I've never seen any concept of damage type throughout FFXIV (had bard and black mage to 90 before) beyond normal damage and magic damage. what are elemental damage types, where are they explained? how is fire different from earth etc?

basically you have base carbuncle as your standard permanent pet always, then you have ruby/topaz/emerald carbuncle as temp burst summons, and they're replaced by egi burst summons once you unlock the egis, then at 90 they're upgraded to real temp burst summons

speaking of carbuncles, I get abilities that are called "summon ruby", "summon topaz" etc, but when you execute them as an arcanist, all that happens is:
- ruby carbuncle appears
- it runs to enemy, explodes with some damage
- blue starter carbuncle reappears
I've previously seen people with persistent red/yellow carbuncles running around, I'm assuming these carbuncles stick around instead of instantly disappearing later on?

but you have to adjust the fairy quite often in a bunch of fights, so it's always in range of the tanks/ppl
SMN at 66 or something like that gets a party buff centered around carbuncle
when you pull a boss, sometimes ppl will instantly charge the boss and stuff, so to hit them with the buff, you place carbuncle ahead of you next to the boss or so
but past that, you shouldn't have to think about it
so you can just like click it even, don't need a keybind if you don't have one
on SCH however, Place is basically a full "ability" for your job, you need a bind for it to play properly(you can always half ass it though like most SCHs do)

Pretty long. I don't have exact numbers, but iirc it takes around 4 quick ventures to level up. So 360 quick ventures, which would be 360 hours or 15 days. Though that would assume, that you are triggering them every hour at the exact second, which you won't

its part of the game's targetting system. whenever you get into combat with a mob, they are tagged with a letter. really doesn't mean/do much these days
