I'd recommend making yourself a gear set

That way, if you ever switch jobs, it will preserve your crystal+weapon combination, rather than putting you back at archer upon just equipping the weapon

some jobs don't have a stone (crafters/gatherers), or can only have a stone (any job unlocked from the expansions), so for these it doesn't matter

but then you have someone who doesn't realize it and runs through a Shadowbringers dungeon as Conjurer (@ my friend) and it can become a mess

How do I unlock melding?

Complete Forging the Spirit (materia extract/npc melding) and Waking the Spirit (player melding) in Central Thanalan.

How can I get my gear melded?

To meld visible Materia slots a NPC melder in any major city will do (marked with a Blue Materia icon on the map). To overmeld gear you'll need to request another player to meld your gear or to do it yourself.

Why can't I meld this Materia to my stuff?

Every Tier of Materia has a minimum item level requirement that gear must meet to allow melding of that Tier. Tier 6 Materia requires an item level of 290 while Tiers 7 and 8 require an item level of 420.

Why is my meld giving +0 stats?

Every item has a maximum amount of stats that can be given through melding and the natural stats found on the gear. This can be seen at the bottom of the Materia Melding menu, as seen in the picture below.

The secondary stat with a higher number is already at the cap and cannot be further melded.

How can I get my gear melded?

To meld visible Materia slots a NPC melder in any major city will do (marked with a Blue Materia icon on the map). To overmeld gear you'll need to request another player to meld your gear or to do it yourself.

Why can't I meld this Materia to my stuff?

Every Tier of Materia has a minimum item level requirement that gear must meet to allow melding of that Tier. Tier 6 Materia requires an item level of 290 while Tiers 7 and 8 require an item level of 420.

Why is my meld giving +0 stats?

Every item has a maximum amount of stats that can be given through melding and the natural stats found on the gear. This can be seen at the bottom of the Materia Melding menu, as seen in the picture below.

The secondary stat with a higher number is already at the cap and cannot be further melded.

ishgard restoration to 80, but I guess it depends on what your definition of obscene amount of gil is. You can also slowly level them over time for free with beast tribes and custom deliveries, but that requires you're at least... 44 or whatever Ixal starts with, and probably ~51 for customs. Add GC daily deliveries for a fairly low cost high reward thing.

NO. Yoshi-P has stated repeatedly that Endwalker is not the final expansion of the game. It is the finale for the Zodiark vs Hydaelyn story.

WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

It means that the story arc for Endwalker will end in 6.0, unlike previous expansion in which .3 patch generally wraps up the story for that expansion. 6.1 will be the start of a new story line.

word of mouth says that the turn-in rewards are not nearly as good as prior. you could check for yourself if there's anything as easy to make as cookies were, but y ou will be making comparatively less money

though it's less turn-ins in total so really it's your perogative to pursue it. i'l lcheck in a bit here as well to see if i spot anything cheap

Endwalker is not the final expansion. It's the last leg of the Hydaelyn vs Zodiark storyline, but there's plenty to explore after this. So long as FFXIV is printing money (and it's printing so much money that SQEX has to stop taking new subscriptions because there isn't enough sever space), there will be new expansions.
