Outside of the main story, most quests are not significant in terms of experience. The fastest way to level is to do dungeons.

Aside from for glamour that you might like, once your gear's item-level has passed your old gear's item-level, it has no functional value.
You can also keep stuff around if you plan on leveling alt classes, so you don't have to keep rebuying it, but other than that, yeah.

As a healer, I don't like tanks using it unless I'm dead or severely out of mana and resources. It tells me that my tank doesn't trust me and I just need two seconds for excog to come up

you can get materias in a variety of ways, but the most obvious would be farming roulettes with adventurer in need bonus(leveling roulette as tank for ex) and doing hunt trains which both drop materias as well as give nuts to buy more
for money otherwise, FATE farming currently is probably the best outside of crafting/gathering. treasure maps are usually good too but not sure about current ones until they release the dungeon

I'd say botany. But mind that you're better off doing every gatherer and at least a large chunk of crafters, since there's a lot of bleeding between crafters. You need various metal ingots for lances, etc.

SAM is hardly difficult other than top end optimization, look up a guide and practice and you'll get better, playing a different class won't remove the need for learning and practicing it before you're good at it

The two that bleeds into carpenter the most is armourer/blacksmith (for the most part, both can make ingots), so if you don't have the patience to omnicraft and are fine with buying some stuff on MB, theoretically CRP/BSM should largely sustain each other
Also I recommend using Ishgard to level both gatherers and crafters

They're visual fluff. I personally only take mine out if I see someone else and go like "oh right minions exist". In high congestion areas, it's polite to take them off to help people with bad PCs have one less entity to load.

scrip gear is usually good enough for most simple cases of gathering for your own needs and stuff, but for ppl who want to make the most money they invest a bunch into a solid melded set that gives more profit, but then you have to actually play a bunch to pay back the melds, it's a choice of playstyle basically

Fun fact, way back in 2013, classes, not jobs, could use cross-class. Like you could have swiftcast on pugilist if you leveled thaumaturge to like 26. You also didn't get swift any other way, so it was pretty much mandatory for all casters to level THM. Warrior had Provoke, Bard had Raging Strikes (allegedly also mandatory on all DPS) etc. It got removed since then, so there's no point in downgrading to your class.
