How do I unlock melding?

Complete Forging the Spirit (materia extract/npc melding) and Waking the Spirit (player melding) in Central Thanalan.

How can I get my gear melded?

To meld visible Materia slots a NPC melder in any major city will do (marked with a Blue Materia icon on the map). To overmeld gear you'll need to request another player to meld your gear or to do it yourself.

Why can't I meld this Materia to my stuff?

Every Tier of Materia has a minimum item level requirement that gear must meet to allow melding of that Tier. Tier 6 Materia requires an item level of 290 while Tiers 7 and 8 require an item level of 420.

Why is my meld giving +0 stats?

Every item has a maximum amount of stats that can be given through melding and the natural stats found on the gear. This can be seen at the bottom of the Materia Melding menu, as seen in the picture below.

The secondary stat with a higher number is already at the cap and cannot be further melded.

I tried unplugging my ethernet cable last night and was able to play fine for many hours. Even logging in gave me zero disconnects. This morning, I decide to test if the ethernet was actually what fixed it by plugging it back in, got DCed while playing again. Except now I get 2002 every single time I press start, regardless of if the ethernet is plugged in or not.

And I even tried connecting to other data centers with no results. What the heck is going on?

Possibly server overload, possibly dropped packets along the ISP's infrastructure path. Remember that your service provider, and the service provider to the SE servers, is also part of the physical connection and can have faulty stuff along the way.

All traffic for a datacenter goes through a gateway. Even when servers are congested and 2002s are happening, you can usually ping the gateway just fine, but you can't ping specific services behind it.

Tbh I just no lifed the diadem in ishgard restoration. Only downside is you don’t gain new gathering stuff so you lose some exp. but that’s a method some people dont use. You can also go through and gather new stuff per area, and leves are probably the best way to get as much as possible in a given time

So I started "playing" Final Fantasy XIV the 3rd of December (having only played Final Fantasy on NES and Final Fantasy 4 on SNES and it's wayyy different lol)
Maybe it wasn't the right time to begin playing to be honest, since I can only play during the morning, except weekends (which I do not work at this time rarely).
But I have a few questions about that.
From past experience, how long did it takes for queues to return to normal after the release of an extension?
Also, I really do not want to leave the free trial before being deep into the game. (Well, I did got a physical edition of the game.... Twice because I accidentally bought Shadowbringer thinking it would be bundled with the base game, and it was the only thing at the store lol, I had to buy the starter edition online)
I really want to play, but being unable to play if there are queues on free trial just make it impossible to play. Should I wait or just leave the free trial now?

With the shire accessories, Custodian is supposed to be for tanks (since some pieces have tenacity) and Pankrataist for melee DPS, right? But on pieces that the tank ones don't have tenacity, are the not sometimes better for the DPS (and are usable by all classes)?
For instance the "tank" bracelet has Str Vit Crit and SKill Speed, while the "dps" one has Str Vit Direct Hit and Tenacity. So wouldn't the tank bracelet be better for DPS too? Since Crit is better than DH and Det is supposedly worthless whilst skill speed isn't

People were protesting the changes on aether - siren two weeks before launch. They said it didn’t get enough and something about tbn. Idk I tune drks out a lot. Doesn’t seem bad though from reading potentially scuffed tool tips tho

Holy Shelltron, Heart of Conundrum, and Bloodwhetting/Nascent Flash all do a ton more while DRK just gets a 25% shield that grants a free cast of flood or edge

Do stack markers also have a " damage snapshot " like most AOE's ?

Meaning that if player A gets a stack marker but due to reasons, i fail to get to that player before the marker disappears will the multiple damage hits not count me being there with everyone else eventhough i am ?

'What is Glamour and how do I unlock it?'

Glamour is the process of changing an equipment's look into a different item with the use of Glamour Prisms. You can unlock the ability to glamour by doing the level 15 quests 'If I Had a Glamour' in Vesper Bay, West Thanalan. Although not required, you can unlock the ability to dye gear with the nearby quest 'Color Your World'. You can get the Orange Juice needed by talking to the nearby Merchant & Mender. 'How do I glamour? Where do I get more Prisms?'

When can I get my first mount?
The quest that allows you to use mounts, ''My Little Chocobo'', is unlocked by completing the level 20 main story quest ''The Company You Keep''. The quest is located at the Grand Company base you chose, and you'll need to buy a Chocobo Issuance from your Grand Company Quartermaster. You can get the 200 required Grand Company seals by doing the main story quest that comes immediately after ''The Company You Keep''.

Are there any differences between mounts?
Some mounts allow multiple people (2/4/8) to ride at once, with all mounts having the same movement speed. A partial exception to this rule is the SDS Fenrir, a mount from the Mog Station. The SDS Fenrir acts as if you have the first mount speed boost obtained from completing specific quests in the story, making it a bit faster than other mounts, but only until completing the relevant story quests for that zone.

Can I make my mount faster?
Zones have one or two ranks of mount speed that increase the ground speed of mounts. The first rank comes from completing specific quests in the main scenario quests, with the second rank coming from Riding Maps which are bought with either Allied Seals, Centurio Seals, or Bicolor Gemstones. Mount Speed Boosts do not increase the flying speed of mounts.

personal speculation from what I observed, XIV combat is slowly leaning toward skills/abilities changing into other skills mid combat when certain conditions are fulfilled. So it is very unlikely that they will adjust basic combo into single buttons (unless it is absolutely necessary) when they have a seemingly more interesting way to keep button count low
