From what I've heard you need a good stable group and an extremely precise understanding of mechanics. Also curious about others learning experience and experience with different groups and the expectations such groups might require of the members

If you want higher chance of success, do them with minimum ilvl

I don't think the time frame for each group is the same

If your skill is below the req, It could take a year

I'm surprised to see so much praise given to this game, considering how boring it is.

Dull class design. Next to zero class or ability customization. Dull item and weapon stats design. Extremely linear world design. Boring story quests, and most content locked behind an insanely long story quest arc. It's frustrating to group up and play with friends who are at different stages in the game, because higher level players will be getting a massive exp boost for playing a second class, and brand new players will instead be partaking in a monumental main story arc. It doesn't mesh well.

I like the trials. It has been a saving grace for me. I'm very curious to you folks that play and genuinely enjoy FFXIV, what is it that keeps you around?

I love every final fantasy game including the spinoffs or handheld entries

I dont think the story is on par with eso, eso handles being a mmo of an established rpg series better than final fantasy 14 so far

It's not really wasted if you don't want to use them. Imo the only leves worth doing are the book leves and cookie biscuit which is 78)
