How do I unlock melding?

How can I get my gear melded?

To meld visible Materia slots a NPC melder in any major city will do (marked with a Blue Materia icon on the map). To overmeld gear you'll need to request another player to meld your gear or to do it yourself.

Why can't I meld this Materia to my stuff?

Every Tier of Materia has a minimum item level requirement that gear must meet to allow melding of that Tier. Tier 6 Materia requires an item level of 290 while Tiers 7 and 8 require an item level of 420.

Why is my meld giving +0 stats?

Every item has a maximum amount of stats that can be given through melding and the natural stats found on the gear. This can be seen at the bottom of the Materia Melding menu, as seen in the picture below.

The secondary stat with a higher number is already at the cap and cannot be further melded.

Dyeing the plate is different, if you dye the plate, the change stayed in the plate.

if you have a gear dyed blue (dyed inside glamour dresser, or dyed before being put into dresser doesn't matter), putting it to a plate will get the blue there too. But when you dye the gear white on the plate, the original weapon stays blue in your dresser.

If you planned to use expensive dye, don't dye to the plate directly

The plate is a loadout of copies of your glam

Once you make the plate, you can do whatever you want to the original gear, take it out and give it to your retainer, sell it for gils, etc. The plate remains the same

to answer my own question: i spent some time looking it up and the answer is to use potting soil! once you have the seeds, there's no HQ onions (so la noscea soil doesn't work); you want to do them inside the house in flower pots, so there's no crossbreeding (thanalan's for crossbreeding and useless); and you can't yield more than 1 onion (so shroud soil is also useless.)
Then to save your gil, just use potting soil! thx!

How do I unlock my job?

To unlock your class' job you need to be level 30, complete all of your class quests and the main scenario quest 'Sylph Management' (lvl 20 quest) to be able to pick up your job unlock quest. Once you've done the initial unlock quest, you will be given a soul crystal which you must equip to become your class' job.
