It kind of depends on your level. Low level (under about 60) pretty much every class feels "clunky" because you're missing 70% of your kit.

Unfortunately that means you're kind of out of luck. You start getting ogcds and core abilities for classes starting at level 50, but most classes still feel bad to play until 60 or (in some cases) 70 because of how their core rotation mechanics work.

Hey if you're coming over from wow like I did, this game feels a little clunky at first I think it's mostly because of the longer global cooldown. Also following the main quest you don't have to kill tons of mobs.
Once you get some more abilities the flow of the combat feels more natural and not nearly as button mashy as wow can

You get gear from dungeons - one piece that you do not possess for your current job guaranteed at the end of every leveling dungeon + whatever you can win.
Gear sometimes translates between jobs, but only if they're of the same type (tanks, healers, ranged physical dps, caster dps, etc.)

Ultimately you can level all three trees. We typically recommend starting with the healing tree, regardless of your class.
