Your retainers job level can never be higher than what -your level is on that class-, so make sure you use that to help decide.
Otherwise, up to you - Gatherer retainers are mainly used to feed crafting materials to you passively. Combat jobs can either collect mob drops, or you send them out for Quick Ventures and pray for something good tbh

correct. You need the appropriate crafter at the appropriate level to remove materia. There is no other option like there is for melding.

Since my starting job is gladiator and is currently level 24 with level 16/17 MSQ, it’d be more beneficial to switch to another job to turn quests in, right? If so, would Arcanist be the most “efficient” in the sense of getting a DPS and a Healer leveled up to go along with my main/starting tank class? Or is it better to just keep pumping all the MSQ exp into the one class even though I’m over leveled?

@mossy delta all the low level stuff wont desynth into much, no reason to stockpile it as a trial player, youll make 1000x its worth just from doing the MSQ quests

@rancid onyx if you wanna min/max then use your lowest level job you can on the MSQ for the armoury bonus, but exp is super easy to get in many different ways so it really doesnt matter
