Im level 32 and I died a single time because our healer decided to pull some group of mobs during a bossfight, otherwise people seem to ignore boss mechanics in the early dungeons and it works out either way
Mobs in the outer world are way too spread out and run at maybe half the speed of my character, I have never really felt to be in any danger in the outer world, invisible walls wont let me even accidentaly suicide.
Im not claiming to be good, but I just find it quite hard to die atm which is kind of surprising

in DF, gear level can skew DPS massively. You can rotation your heart out and still be outdone by an idiot 20 ilvls ahead of you.

if you're still working on msq, you do not need to go out of your way to get a full set of ironworks
the gear given from the msq will cover you just fine
that said you should use what poetics you have to get the weapon and then chest/pants at the very least

you will have a tag when you join a free company. You just can't open a menu in the game to find a free company. You can look at people's free companies and apply that way. But if you are looking for a certain type of FC, try the community finder.
