Well I just started Heavensward, got maybe 10 quests in, but I'm playing as a Dark Knight. Feels really boring since I only have like 4 moves, with 3 being on GCD. So I figure I'd play the Samurai, do the campaign, and level my tank classes up through duty finder after. So I assume I'll get Samurai gear through the Heavensward Campaign.

What is a retainer?
A retainer is a private NPC that will act as a personal bank for the player, holding up to 175 different items, that can be summoned to any of the Summoning Bells around the world. Retainers also act as your means to sell on the Market Board.

How to unlock a retainer
First, you must complete the quest The Scions of the Seventh Dawn then go to speak to any of the Retainer Vocates located in the market district of any of the major cities.

What are Retainer Ventures?
Ventures are the means to send out your retainers on missions to bring back items for you and can be unlocked by completing the quest 'An Ill-conceived Venture' (Ul’Dahn), (Gridania), (Limsa Lominsa)

'Why does my EXP bar have some blue or faded yellow in it?'

That's Rested Experience, which is an extra source of bonus experience shared between all of your classes. You gradually earn this while inside a sanctuary (town or area with a major aetheryte), regardless of whether you're online or not. Sanctuaries are also indicated with a crescent moon icon near your experience bar.

'How much of a boost is it?'

The most amount of rested experience you can have at once is one and a half levels of experience. That means that lower level jobs use up the rested experience faster than higher level jobs do.

You can then chug them for dumb buffs

For example
Essence of the Profane for healers - 70% less healing, 100% more damage

You can only overmeld Tier 8s to the first overmeld slot

Can't meld 8s or 6s past the first overmeld slots

Once you put one materia in overmeld slots you can't use 6s or 8s anymore

The final two slots have to be 7s or 5s and under
