is it really worth trying to level alts using fates and other things when i dont have a mount/any of the aethershard locationsa besides the 3 main city ones and the 1-2 small settlements outside each? im running into an issue of just (because pplk can fly or ride mounts) i am stuck just doing the hunting log and killing mobs randomly to lvl and my class quests and it feels slow without mounts/flying /alrdy having a max lvl person for armory bonus and ppl are just rushing around clearing the fates without waiting etc.

im really low lvl so i dont think its smart for me to do so lol

i know..but im only lvl 20 and i dont even have mounts. and ppl having fly or mounts before me..so i like run into the issue of ppl A arent waiting to do fates and i cant get therte. or B it seems like a waste..because no one waits and the boost isnt as big as it could be because im not max level in something for the BIGGEST Armor boost xp

A lot of things I'm finding say you need the pet's name after the command like:
/macroicon "Fey Illumination" pet "Eos"
Sometimes with/without parenthesis. It's still not working for me though, but that's all I've been able to find.

Leveling alt classes is up to you - you can wait until you're 80, you can level 5 jobs at the same time, its all how you wanna spend your time.
These days its entirely possible to even level Two jobs simultaneously alongside your MSQ level, so you can like get two classes to 20 and start balancing EXP on them if you want.
The alt guide is good and POTD unlocks pretty early, so just something to think about

Sorry, yeah MSQ being Main Scenario Quest is a big one and POTD means "Palace of the Dead". POTD is a deep dungeon, procedurally generated levels that you can use to spam exp on alt jobs, its an interesting concept. Let me get the FAQ for it, you have to be level 17 and cleared a dungeon called "Copperbell Mines" at level 17. You'll know it when you see it
Also; note that dungeons, raids, trials and shit are usually NOT queued for on the map, but by the "Duty Finder" (or DF) where you just queue up from wherever you are and it puts you in a dungeon instance.

The commonly accepted method for levelling in POTD is to start at floor 51 and clear to 60, then reset the save and start back at floor 51, though if you don’t have floor 51 unlocked, 1-10 is an acceptable alternative.

Absolutely, once you unlock it.
The levels inside "POTD" are seperate from the levels outside, in fact while you're INSIDE you'll find that you'll start at level 1 and quickly go up to level 60. Even though in the real world your true level is still like 23 or something.

Yeah its one-of-a-kind and a bit wierd, but all you need to know is that we use these special "Palace of the Dead" Deep Dungeons to quickly level alt jobs.
If I go unlock a new DPS job today, I'm gonna spend a few days grinding and grinding exp in "POTD" to level it up quickly, because its the fastest way for DPS. Not FATEs, not sidequests, etc

For sure, sorry didnt mean to confuse. This content was added way later, for years all we could do was spam dungeons with random players, and theres still nothing wrong with that. Palace of the Dead can be a little boring so a lot of people just spam dungeons and do FATEs while in queue or whatever, and theres nothing wrong with that either so dont be discouraged!

Basically PotD is a mini roguelike. Leveling and improvements in it is separate from the rest of the game. Every 10 floors you get some xp based off your current proper level for completing it. You can proceed or exit out to claim the xp.

i am trying not to be..but theres so many menus and things that bombard you like any other asian MMO and that turns me off...it also doesnt feel like it gives me any clear direction ..when instead of dropping 1000 things in front of me. and letting me just sandbox. id prefer linear stuff and being told or having some LOCKED IN type of feeling. lol

In that case, I'd consider just being laser focused on the Main Scenario Quests MSQ for a while, many many other things in this game are just totally optional. You dont have to level alt classes, unlock crafters, do levequests, blah blah...
The MSQ is supposed to be the trail on rails that takes you literally from level 1 all the way to endgame, you can get by in this game by doing very little else but MSQ and your Class quests (Guild Quests / Job quests)

I'm the opposite Warth, I think I prefer Red Mage over BLM but truly only marginally - I'm tank/melee oriented so getting up close is fun for me. RDM rotation is also just easier than it looks

Yeah no worries, like I said its still totally up to you. If you dont want to outlevel your friend that makes sense, I do that with my wife when we play too. So I spend time leveling alt classes, leveling crafting and gathering classes, just whatever I feel like. I still think leveling alt jobs is one of the more fun things in this game.

RDM is the similar on paper, you build up Black and White Mana by casting spells until you can unleash them in a melee combo. The numbers arent as big boom though kek.

For me its because I'm a tank/melee player at at first and with RDM -every second spell you cast is instant- so theres a lot more freedom of movement on RDM if you wanna put it that way.

One thing you should know if it hasnt been mentioned yet, is that FFXIV has no "Job meta"
All classes are so balanced, so "precisely" balanced that 99.99% of content is clearable by basically any combination of jobs. I know WoW isn't like that something 🤔

I'd make sure your aether compass is on your hotbar and just grab near ones as you go thru MSQ - usually MSQ will take you nearby-ish all the ones in the zone. And you can't get the QUEST currents until you are completely done with the zone anyways, so no need to rush

Any GCDs queue when pressed during oGCD anim lock or in the last 0.5-0.6 seconds of the GCD recast timer.

Just a note that 40 crafting gear can probably only get to to 50, after that theres a big "Jump" in difficulty and you'll need new gear at 50 or 51 to be able to make it to 60. This will be the same at 60, 70, and 80 soon.
