If one of your gear pieces has Crit as the highest number, you'll get nothing from melding Crit materia to it.
Plus, you sort of want to balance around your stats anyway, even when minmaxing.

I'm ... not sure quite what you're asking here, but Yoshi-P did recently announce that they reinstated the afk auto-logout timer to help combat server congestion. So if you got kicked to the title screen while afk, that's why.
