How do I unlock my job?

To unlock your class' job you need to be level 30, complete all of your class quests and the main scenario quest 'Sylph Management' (lvl 20 quest) to be able to pick up your job unlock quest. Typically Job Quests are contained within their expansions separately. If you have not reached the next expansion in , you need to continue the main story quests until you reach the next expansion, denoted by giant letters naming said expansion.

I think the first alliance raids are at 50, if I remember correctly. I am at 53 in MSQ, char level 62 and have done the first set of alliance raids. They were either right at the tail end of the patches between ARR and HW or right at the beginning of HW, I can't quite recall.

Raids are "endgame" content for each expansion. They appear between the X.1 and X.5 patches for each expansion.

In ARR you have Crystal Tower (Alliance raid) and Binding Coils of Bahamut (Normal raid). HW is Void Ark (Alliance raid) and Alexander (Normal raid). SB is Return to Ivalice (Alliance raid) and Omega (Normal raid). Shadowbringers is YorHa (Alliance raid) and Eden (Normal raid).

'Why does my EXP bar have some blue or faded yellow in it?'

That's Rested Experience, which is an extra source of bonus experience shared between all of your classes. You gradually earn this while inside a sanctuary (town or area with a major aetheryte), regardless of whether you're online or not. Sanctuaries are also indicated with a crescent moon icon near your experience bar.

'How much of a boost is it?'

The most amount of rested experience you can have at once is one and a half levels of experience. That means that lower level jobs use up the rested experience faster than higher level jobs do.

The quest that allows you to use mounts, 'My Little Chocobo' is unlocked by completing the level 20 main story quest 'The Company You Keep'. The quest is located at the Grand Company base you chose and you'll need to buy the Chocobo Issuance from your Grand Company Quartermaster. You can get the 200 needed Grand Company seals by doing the main story quest that comes after 'The Company You Keep'.

Besides looks, all mounts are the same speed along with being able to fly. Some mounts allow multiple people to ride at once.

'Can I make my mount faster?'

Zones have one or two ranks of mount speed that increase the ground speed of mounts. The first rank comes from completing specific quests in the main scenario quests, with the second rank coming from Riding Maps which are bought with either Allied Seals, Centurio Seals, or Bicolor Gemstones. Mount Speed Boosts do not increase the flying speed of mounts.

Every expansion has at least one dungeon where suddenly you need better gear because it's a massive spike in difficulty. ARR has about three, but for HW it's the level 57 dungeon, SB it's the level 65 one, and ShB it's the level 73 dungeon.

For combat jobs that the retainer can be (eg Dragoon, monk, etc) the only number that maters is the overall item level of the stuff equipped. For gatherer jobs (miner, botanist, fisher), it looks only at the gathering score from the gear so items that do not have that stat are irrelevant.
