Which world should I pick?

You can play on any world on any datacenter within FFXIV. Aside from the languages spoken, the physical location of the servers, and the status of each world, there are no major differences. This also means population on a given server is quite meaningless.

The majority of content is cross-world, with the exception of Free Companies, Linkshells, and restrictions when visiting other worlds.

If you don't mind where you play, choose a world that is Preferred or New for character creation bonuses. Check world status by using !status <world name> or via the Lodestone. For information about the status types, use !faq worldtype.

What do all these quest icons mean?

2. do ishgard restoration to level your crafters and gatherers since it's easy to find the stuff you need there + gets you money back via scrips
3. do leves to get some exp and don't overcap them

Anyways, to properly answer the question: No, because most modern video game engines are not designed for the MMO scale in mind, and that despite 3000 cards being out, most people I know are still on a 900 to 1000 series card. i have friends who still have the 750ti. If they were going to upgrade the graphics for FFXIV, they would and should just make a new MMORPG at that point anyways. Like, I would love for FFXIV to get some proper multithreading, but that's something they'd have to fix at the engine level, and they'd rather not have to commit another realm reborn. That's why it took so long for a heavensward patch to come out, Yoshi-P literally made his entire team take a 3 month paid vacation.

Its up to you - crafting and gathering are like a whole side-game. Some people craft and gather for 6 hours a day and some people never unlock them.

They are useful if you think theyre useful and enjoy them, crafting rewards you based on the effort you put in, you know? Higher levels, higher crafts, better gear, make more gil.... etc
