How do I unlock my job?

To unlock your class' job you need to be level 30, complete all of your class quests and the main scenario quest 'Sylph Management' (lvl 20 quest) to be able to pick up your job unlock quest. Once you've done the initial unlock quest, you will be given a soul crystal which you must equip to become your class' job.

'When can I get my first mount?'

The quest that allows you to use mounts, 'My Little Chocobo' is unlocked by completing the level 20 main story quest 'The Company You Keep'. The quest is located at the Grand Company base you chose and you'll need to buy the Chocobo Issuance from your Grand Company Quartermaster. You can get the 200 needed Grand Company seals by doing the main story quest that comes after 'The Company You Keep'.

'Are there any differences between mounts?'

Besides looks, all mounts are the same speed along with being able to fly. Some mounts allow multiple people to ride at once.

'Can I make my mount faster?'

Zones have one or two ranks of mount speed that increase the ground speed of mounts. The first rank comes from completing specific quests in the main scenario quests, with the second rank coming from Riding Maps which are bought with either Allied Seals, Centurio Seals, or Bicolor Gemstones. Mount Speed Boosts do not increase the flying speed of mounts.

Which world should I pick?

You can play on any world on any datacenter within FFXIV. Aside from the languages spoken, the physical location of the servers, and the status of each world, there are no major differences. This also means population on a given server is quite meaningless.

Training missions? You mean the Hall of the Novice? That does give good early game gear equivalent to what you can get from the first three dungeons, plus an xp boost ring which will last you as a ring until level 50 (the xp boost only works to level 30 though).

For DNC, I strongly recommend grouping your skills by combo - for example: Windmill > Rising Windmill, Cascade > Reverse Cascade, etc.

Keybinds are all about making a setup that feels logical to you so you don't have to think when you're going for an ability.

That is what I meant. I'd like to be able to set up my bars to group things up, without touching my set up and keybinds for my other jobs.

Every job's abilities are distinct from every other jobs.

You can set things up however you want as, say, BLM, and then switch to DNC and have your abilities bound where you want them for DNC.

You can't change the specific bind slots (1 will always be 1, etc.), but you can always customize what you put on those slots.

For a more specific example: say you choose Thaumaturge (Black Mage) as your first job. Thaumaturge does not share its spells with any other class in the game. If you were to switch to Arcanist later, you'd have a whole different set of spells which you would need to bind, and you wouldn't see any of your Thaumaturge spells while equipped as an Arcanist.

tenacity scales more poorly compared to teh other substats. you prioritize crit and enough skill speed to get 5 fell cleaves inside inner release those are sort of your big 2 substats to aim for. everything else can be jammed into determination and if nothing else to meld, then tenacity

typically when you consider whether or not to use a ranged attack you have to consider the potency lose when breaking your combo and at what step. on typical 3 part combos, its like barely worth if you're going to be away for more than 6s at the 2nd step of a combo and 10s at the 3rd step
