All jobs are good and viable in all content. The difference between meta and non-meta is minor, to the point that player skill is a significantly more important factor. Play what you enjoy/what interests you most, and you can make it work.

Hey all! I'd really like to get back into this game, but I'm one of those people in the position of not having played it since before the free level 60 trial with Heavensward was available. I own the game on Steam, and am therefore not eligible for the free trial, but since I only have one character that wasn't even 60 yet, it seems like a waste to use that account, since I'll have to pay the sub, but still won't have access to Heavensward or have a character above 60.

I don't mind buying the game again, as well as any necessary expansions, if I decide I want to play post-60.

So, here are my questions:

1 - Is it possible to somehow detach my existing FF XIV account from Steam? I only use a single email address, which is associated with Steam, and I don't love the idea of having to create a new one just to play this game. I want to play, so I will if I have to, and I'm aware the answer to this is probably no anyway, but I thought I should ask, in case someone is aware of something I'm not.

2 - Is there any good reason anyone can think of for me to just go with my existing account, even though I'd have to pay the sub and won't have free access to Heavensward besides keeping my existing character (I have no plans to do so. I'd prefer to just start over because it's been so long).

Appologies if this is answered anywhere else. I did a bit of searching first but couldn't find anything clear. Links are appreciated, if this info exists somewhere. 🙂

Sounds like you might’ve already done it? Go to the Journal > Completed Quests > two swords icon > Disciple of War Job Quests > see if you have “A Relic Reborn (Curtana)” as completed

Preordering Endwalker only gets you Endwalker, right? My impression with FF XIV expansions was that they don't do a thing where previous expansions are included in the purchase of the newest one.

Standard, Preferred, and New Servers will dynamically open and close themselves from newly created characters depending on how many players are online. To ensure you're able to make a new character on your server try waiting or doing so at a less active time of day.
Congested Servers will not unlock for new players or transfers until Square Enix removes the Congested Status.

Roulettes are your best bet to get easy tomes on the daily. And as said before, Eden is fine too. But still gotta roll against others.

I would say it feels the slowest at 50/60/70. Getting over to the next lvl is a bit long.

If you have a FC ask if they can activate the Heat of Battle buff, eat food before instances, and wear exp boost earrings if you have them.

Just know that hotbars dont generally share between classes - so when you swap classes, your hotbars should swap with it. (Unless you otherwise tell it to be "shared" across classes specifically)

Usually players have one hotbar setup, and it stays that way no matter what level youre at. You would just personally change the rotation you're using instead of re-binding thing

Some of the skills will "upgrade" as you lvl, but when you are synced it goes down to lvl 1. You should make you hotbar for your highest lvl. Syncing will adjust things. Though there are some skill you won't use very much, like say Blizard2.

Yeah I wouldnt change my hotbars no matter if I'm at level 15 or 80, I just know what buttons not to press. But anyways, I know on PC you can have Four different hotbar defaults you can switch to so maybe that'd work.

But yes you would still need fire 1 on your bar all the way up to 80 and maybe even 90. You'd keep Fire 2 on your hotbar somewhere, even if you dont use it at 80 you'd still use it at 15

To unlock your class' job you need to be level 30, complete all of your class quests and the main scenario quest 'Sylph Management' (lvl 20 quest) to be able to pick up your job unlock quest. Once you've done the initial unlock quest, you will be given a soul crystal which you must equip to become your class' job.

Yea, all the base classes turn into their more well-known job at level 30. The other healer you can get from the base classes is Scholar, the pet healer, which comes from Arcanist.

Well as I mentioned I like more classes and more profession. Although I like the story, gameplay and other aspect of FF14 I choose to compare the classes and profession from other games too.

Counting only the ones that's super popular in US. I know other games that have too many classes but not counting them cause it's not as popular in the US.

So the game I'm using are World of Warcraft, Old School Runescape, Elder Scrolls Online, Guild Wars 2, and Black Desert Online along side Final Fantasy XIV.

Among them 1st place in profession is Old School Runescape, while 1st place in classes/jobs is Black Desert Online.

And Final Fantasy 14 is the 2nd place of... BOTH! Not just one but both, which I thought was pretty cool, lol XD

Unironically, the best way to pair the non-FSH non-CUL Hand/Land is "All at once". Miner and Botanist feed every other crafter, and the crafters all feed each other. CUL is fine, but keep an eye on the rest - CUL shares gear with them so its still good to do them all at once

You still need a couple non-diadem materials for the skybuilder crafts

But it does mostly use skybuilder materials

Theres plenty of ways to level them so its totally up to you - Levequests, Diadem/Firmament is excellent, GC daily handins, Beast Tribe Quests (Ixal, etc.).
I've had capped Crafters since week 2 of every expac so I honestly dont know whats best with the extra options

'How do I unlock Hunts?'

HW Hunts: Go to Ishgard - Foundation at x13, y11.9 and complete the quest 'Let the Clan Hunt Begin' from Aytienne. Followup quests are 'Better Bill Hunting' from Eustacia, 'Top Marks' from Yloise in Idyllshire, and 'Elite and Dangerous' from Ardolain. This must be done to unlock SB/SHB Hunts.

SB Hunts: Go to Kugane at x10.4, y10.3 and complete all quests with 'Veteran Clan Hunt' from Estrild.

SHB Hunts: Go to The Crystarium at x12.2, 15.1 and complete the quest 'Nuts to You' from the Hume Lout. Afterwards complete all quests from Halldor at x9.5, y9.4.

Check your Actions menu and you can drag the Limit Break to a nonsuspecting hotbar. Be advised that you wont need to use it as a Tank very often at all (almost never, just for certain trials etc.)

Which Grand Company should I choose?

The only differences between the three Grand Companies are the looks of the equipment and where they're located. The story doesn't change in regards to the Grand Company you choose beside the quest that comes after "The Company You Keep". Here is a link leading to sample sets from each of the Grand Companies:

How do I get Grand Company Seals?

You can get more seals mainly by completing your Grand Company Hunting Log (Go to the Hunting Log and click on the GC icon), completing FATEs, and turning in crafted/gathered items to the Personnel Officer if you have crafting or gathering classes unlocked. Once you are Sergeant 2nd Class you can turn in Pink/Green/Blue-rarity gear in exchange for more seals.
