you have to set up this encounter timeout to a higher number. by default its like 10sec or something, so it resets after 10sec of you not fighting

There's no real difference in the amount of gil earned or the impact on the in-game market if you list a bunch of stuff all at once with 8 retainers or over a longer time period with 2.
