best paired with your big hits like Upheaval, Fell Cleave, and Inner Chaos

and PLD has a beefy heal, but this directly cuts into your damage which makes them not great at party support without losing damagge

Heya, I tried a Final Fantasy free trial (think it was like 2 weeks free or something similiar) a few years ago. @leaden ginkgo DRK's TBN is really powerful you can put it on yourself or a party member if you saw someone who may have been KOed by guaranteed damage you may be able to save them with it. WAR has the highest HP pool and with equilibrium and nascent flash they have amazing sustain, there's a lot of videos of people even soloing content on WAR because of how great their self sustain is. PLD's Clemency makes you a pseudo healer and the bane of glare mages, they most definitely can keep a party alive if a healer goes down with proper mp management, and skill. GNB I'm not the most familiar with so sadly I can't offer much on utility, but they do have the highest sustained damage of all tanks, burst medal goes to WAR.

in endgame content where things like having an off tank or tank swaps matter, you have aggro management tools like shirk and provoke

I am what I would deem a seed. I'm not even a sprout. I decided to give FF14 a well deserved chance and I want to step out of the trial account and into the light of full-fledge player.
I'm still new but MMO's have always been about community to me, and I think leveling and being part of a group will only add to my experience. So those who wish to say I should wait until I hit 60 with the MSQ, I understand, but I also want to have that community experience.

With that out the way, can I get some advice or direction on what I should buy when it comes to expansions? The new expansion is soon to be released and it seems silly to buy Shadowbringers at full price when it will essentially become free a few months down the line.

Here's your options:

You buy the starter edition now and leave it at that for the moment. It has the same content as the trial (which is a ton) but without the social restrictions. So you would still save some money while giving the game a chance first.

You buy the complete edition now, which has everything up to lvl 80. No particular pros and cons here, just the full purchase.

IF you buy the starter edition now you could wait until Endwalker releases to buy that. Because once that happens it will include Stormblood and Shadowbringers so you would save money. However that is still almost half a year off.

Try Palace Of The Dead or Heaven On High (the deep dungeons), try to solo them, do relics, level alt jobs, try and get a house, get married, cap your gil, try to complete all Savage raids, work on Ultimate raids, level crafters, etc.
