If it's currently on cooldown, you spend your cartridges on Burst Strike instead

Lore wise it's because the reason titan keeps getting summoned is because the maelstrom broke their peace treaty with kobolds and keeps invading their territory. The kobolds are defensive and only summon titan when threatened, so if the maelstrom didn't keep invading their territory titan wouldn't be an issue in the first place.

TL;DR: its the maelstroms fault titan gets summoned in the first place and the guy doesn't want them to be able to deal with him easily.

'When can I get my first mount?'

The quest that allows you to use mounts, 'My Little Chocobo' is unlocked by completing the level 20 main story quest 'The Company You Keep'. The quest is located at the Grand Company base you chose and you'll need to buy the Chocobo Issuance from your Grand Company Quartermaster. You can get the 200 needed Grand Company seals by doing the main story quest that comes after 'The Company You Keep'.

'Are there any differences between mounts?'

Besides looks, all mounts are the same speed along with being able to fly. Some mounts allow multiple people to ride at once.

'Can I make my mount faster?'

Zones have one or two ranks of mount speed that increase the ground speed of mounts. The first rank comes from completing specific quests in the main scenario quests, with the second rank coming from Riding Maps which are bought with either Allied Seals, Centurio Seals, or Bicolor Gemstones. Mount Speed Boosts do not increase the flying speed of mounts.

You could, but it’s not really worth it since you’re on free trial

You don’t have access to the market board and so a lot of crafting material you might need might not be available to you

Also no access to retainers either means your chocobo inventory and your own personal inventory will be filled
