really, it's a tough question to decide what class you'll be on at all. i spent most of my early game trying to tank, then i shifted to MCH as my main, and now i main red mage
the videos should help but the real answer is just laying everything that you can and trying to decide from there, nano

Which world should I pick?

You can play on any world on any datacenter within FFXIV. Aside from the languages spoken, the physical location of the servers, and the status of each world, there are no major differences. This also means population on a given server is quite meaningless.

The majority of content is cross-world, with the exception of Free Companies, Linkshells, and restrictions when visiting other worlds.

If you don't mind where you play, choose a world that is Preferred or New for character creation bonuses. Check world status by using !status <world name> or via the Lodestone. For information about the status types, use !faq worldtype.

Rested Experience FAQ

'Why does my EXP bar have some blue or faded yellow in it?'

That's Rested Experience, which is an extra source of bonus experience shared between all of your classes. You gradually earn this while inside a sanctuary (town or area with a major aetheryte), regardless of whether you're online or not. Sanctuaries are also indicated with a crescent moon icon near your experience bar.

'How much of a boost is it?'

The most amount of rested experience you can have at once is one and a half levels of experience. That means that lower level jobs use up the rested experience faster than higher level jobs do.

it's also the same areas you can log out without the 20 second delay, for the most part.

I was doing the last quest of ARR and at some point I stopped seeing the cutscenes. then everyone disappeared (after the cutscene in the screenshot) and I was left alone. then cutscences started playing as the other players progressed. I went back and got killed my some monsters that my party ignored and then I could teleport back to the party from the starting point.

is that experienced players rush ahead, do everything

and you're left having no fucking clue what's goiong on

if you have the funds for crafters you can powerlevel them either using the standard shop sellers or mb for more niech stuff. Though in short you are on the road to Ishgard where leves become a lot easier
