I have a question: I have played the trial of FFXIV maybe 2 or 3 times since the game has been out. I hate storylines and cutscenes in games - I only play games for the actual gameplay and challenge aspect. I skip every cutscene that I can because I only get satisfaction out of dungeons/boss fights etc. Yesterday I went on the site and noticed that FFXIV has a level boost thing and I wanted to get opinions on that because if I'm reading it correctly it sounds like I can just skip a buuuuunch of that boring early level content and just get right into what I like to do. Is that what it is, and if so, do you recommend doing this or no? Like what would be the downsides to this

Which world should I pick?

You can play on any world on any datacenter within FFXIV. Aside from the languages spoken, the physical location of the servers, and the status of each world, there are no major differences. This also means population on a given server is quite meaningless.

The majority of content is cross-world, with the exception of Free Companies, Linkshells, and restrictions when visiting other worlds.

If you don't mind where you play, choose a world that is Preferred or New for character creation bonuses. Check world status by using !status <world name> or via the Lodestone. For information about the status types, use !faq worldtype.

they shortened a lot of tedious steps and unnecessary filler quests in patch 5.3

Eureka is just a pain your first time through, past that getting the items to trade for sets is pretty easy. The echo in there kinda nukes most of it.

to be detailed for weapons:
it's doing a bunch of gathering of materials from boss fates for every step at some point, including specific rare boss fates
in pagos there's a step where you fill a bar for a really long time in addition to it
it's not bad in an active instance
