during things like trash pulls, general boss autos, etc shields will just fall off after 3-5 seconds and you have basically nothing left on the tank forcing you to re-apply the shield constantly

it also has to do with MP and GCD efficiency. Assuming you don't need the shields to prevent fatal damage, diurnal is generally the better sect assuming you don't have another astrologian in the party.
AST regens also stack with WHM regens, unlike AST shields and SCH shields overwriting each other.

im not a big brain healer but even scholar, the shield healer, doesn't actually end up shielding literally all damage, most healing is either regens or just raw healing

shielding takes GCDs, unless it's seraph. And SCH has notoriously weak gcd healing
People cite succor and adlo calling scholar a shield healer, which is a bit misleading because they're some of your lowest priority tools by 80

quest log shows all quests you have active, it doesn't change as you change classes or jobs
if you don't have a class quest in your log then you didn't pick one up

For gathering collectibles for white scrip, the leveling rotations might work. You just won't get as much per node as you would with level 80 gear. DoL food might also help if you can afford it or craft it.

You'll mostly be okay if you only pay close attention to actual cutscene quests of both the voiced and unvoiced varieties.
If it's just like, normal dialogue with emotes, it's less important to Actual Plot.
