The increase in stats is only be 3 or 4 digits, and for whatever reason I get a downgrade in CP.
I currently have 3 or 4 materias overmelded onto each of them, that's a lot of work to throw away just a stat boost of +4.

You should be able to place a piece of equipment in the glamour dresser, though you need to spend a glamour prism to do so
