Materia melding requires a sidequest completion to do yourself. You can go to a materia melder in a town to get an NPC to meld materia in materia slots but for overmelding you HAVE to get someone else to do that by rightclicking them and "request meld" or do it yourself which, again, sidequest locked

First real experience with an MMO. I have been playing for 2 days, level 11. I hit 1 story quest that had some semi-compelling character speech. I was hoping for a bit more than this overall. I feel like I'm just fetch-questing all the time, and the UI is a level of complexity that I've never seen before in typical single player action RPGs. It was, and still is a bit overwhelming and clunky for me to navigate. Making small headway.
Just trying to ascertain where the story missions are, what the icon is to denote them on the map, and perhaps how to trigger them more efficiently?

Like, I can see the MSQ at the top left corner, but when I go to map, I'm not seeing an icon or even a zone transition point indicating that I have to go through that zone transition point to get to the icon.
