Raising quality increases the HQ change/collectability level, which is what you want. But if you run out of durability before progress reaches 0, all that quality is lost cause the item breaks. @round juniper

FFXIV has to kinds of jobs, bascially - upgradable jobs and specialty jobs.
Upgradable jobs are the ones you get to choose from when making your character. Upon reaching level 30, you can finish a job quest to "upgrade" your job to its advanced form. You get to keep all of the cool attacks and abilities you've unlocked so far, and get a lot more as you level!
- Gladiator upgrades to Paladin
- Marauder upgrades to Warrior
- Conjurer upgrades to White Mage
- Arcanist upgrades to Scholar (a healing job), and Summoner (a DPS job). You can unlock both by doing their individual job quests.
- Pugilist upgrades to Monk
- Lancer upgrades to Dragoon
- Rogue upgrades to Ninja
- Archer upgrades to Bard
- Thaumaturge upgrades to Black Mage.
"Specialty" jobs are jobs that you can think of as being "already upgraded". These are usually expansion features, and they start at a higher level than the others. These consist of:
- Dark Knight
- Gunbreaker
- Astrologian
- Samurai
- Machinist
- Dancer
- Red Mage
- Blue Mage (Added this for completion's sake - but BLU mage is really in a category all its own. You cannot queue for things like dugeons or raids normally as you would other jobs, so think of this as a fun side project if anything.)
