Assuming you mean tomestones, it only does that if you're max level and therefore not getting exp from it

I've skipped some daily duties to plow through story (Almost at the end of Stormblood..) but wondering: If I do a Trial, like I did Lakshmi, does that not count as a "daily" one and give additional exp? Just curious if it has to be through the daily roulette or if story stuff count as well? If not, why wouldn't they do that?

You only get daily bonuses from daily roulettes.

The purpose of the roulettes is to populate content so people who are queueing manually for story reasons etc. have people to be matched with.

If you could choose what duty to do it would defeat the purpose

unpopular duties would simply never be queued for.

Wish they'd incorporate the actual story as well since you're doing the things that are in the roulette: also, it really takes ages otherwise to "waste time" on duties 😂

I mean, if you're doing story you're part of the "unpopular duties" club. The whole point of the daily roulette was to help people get through story, no?

Doing story doesn't necessarily mean you're doing unpopular duties.

You have to do the duty for the story; you don't need any additional incentive.

The roulette bonus exists to give people who don't have any other reason to do those duties an incentive to queue

The only differences between the three Grand Companies are the looks of the equipment and where they're located. How do I get Grand Company Seals?

You can get more seals mainly by completing your Grand Company Hunting Log (Go to the Hunting Log and click on the GC icon), completing FATEs, and turning in crafted/gathered items to the Personnel Officer if you have crafting or gathering classes unlocked. Once you are Sergeant 2nd Class you can turn in Pink/Green/Blue-rarity gear in exchange for more seals.

the only setting that affects character voices is, well, "voice" volume in sound settings

How do I unlock my job?

To unlock your class' job you need to be level 30, complete all of your class quests and the main scenario quest 'Sylph Management' (lvl 20 quest) to be able to pick up your job unlock quest. Once you've done the initial unlock quest, you will be given a soul crystal which you must equip to become your class' job.
