How do I unlock melding?

Complete Forging the Spirit (materia extract/npc melding) and Waking the Spirit (player melding) in Central Thanalan.

How can I get my gear melded?

To meld visible Materia slots a NPC melder in any major city will do (marked with a Blue Materia icon on the map). To overmeld gear you'll need to request another player to meld your gear or to do it yourself.

Why can't I meld this Materia to my stuff?

Every Tier of Materia has a minimum item level requirement that gear must meet to allow melding of that Tier. Tier 6 Materia requires an item level of 290 while Tiers 7 and 8 require an item level of 420.

Why is my meld giving +0 stats?

Every item has a maximum amount of stats that can be given through melding and the natural stats found on the gear. This can be seen at the bottom of the Materia Melding menu, as seen in the picture below.

The secondary stat with a higher number is already at the cap and cannot be further melded.

For you it's alright yeah, i use it to level up cause it's a bit braindead, they become quickly overpowered so you don't really have to worry about them dieing. It's handy to avoid DPS queues or practice a job. For them I'm not sure how much it gives them

There are pretty broad interpretations of this. In the strictest sense, any music that is currently still under copyright protection is prohibited. However if nobody reports you, nothing will happen.

This, of course, does not apply to music under the FFXIV/SE copyrights, since SE owns those. It's mostly a protection for SE and (to a lesser extent) to streamers.

But like, there's also a person (or several? I'm not entirely clear on this point), who have an array of synced characters - the Songbirds (named after the in-game idol group that was the focus of the Little Ladies' Day events for a few years) - who go around performing on various servers.

And they definitely perform copyrighted songs.

/echo - tells the macro to send a specific text/se alert to you, and only you (good for cd timers)

Then there are the tag <> commands, which you put into /ac or text lines to add effects, such as:

<se.#> - when the # is replaced with a number from 1-14(?), the specified sound effect will play when this is put into a text or /echo line

While leveling, materia don't really matter. Just make sure your gear (especially your weapon) are up to date with your level.

The best advice I can give is to enable to WXHB and lay out your abilities in a way that's logical to you. I personally group similar types of spells or combos into 4-ability groupings.

So when I'm playing WHM, I have all of my ST cast heals on one grouping, AoE on another, instant casts on a third, and dps spells on a fourth, and so on.

If something is level 1 at level 36, it’s not the end of the world if it’s an accessory, but if it’s weapon or armour of some kind, just be aware that you’ll also be lacking defense and core stats if your gear is more than about 5 levels apart.

That’s fine, if it’s weapon/shield/head/body/hands/legs/feet they’ll have defence/m.defence and vitality, not to mention the primary stat for your damage. Waist to some extent is less important but more important than your normal accessories
