Over simplified: Defenses are binary. You either have enough, or are dead. Tanks are generally given enough as baseline.
Offense is not--more offense always has value, even if that value is just killing something faster, but often can be increasing the margin of error and therefore safety when dealing with unknown variables like 'other party members'
