how do you tell which ground effect is good and which one kills you cuz im doing the kupo fight and I'm running out of things I shouldnt and vice versa
friendly aoes are solid blue
it was like a massive pulsing orange circle
limit breaks and friendly AoEs are solid blue instead of solid orange
that I thought was the explosion radius
orange bad
orange is always bad
except for stack marker
but it wasnt that other kind of orange
if it's not blue, it'll probably kill you
dont pulsing orange with arrow mean that you have to group up?
king mog has one exceptional aoe marker which is the pld's purple ohko aoe
a dragoon was standing in it and nothing happened to him
(Orange is the standard AoE effect for enemies, but later on there's a lot more 'unique' mechanics which use unique AoE effects.)
and the pulsing circle orange means you have to move as far away as possible?
flare markers aren't orange
yes
long story short; you just learn as you go
Are heroes gauntlet and ||matoya's relict|| both in expert and lv80 roulette?
Orange radiating pulsing like a radar means reduced by distance
Orange arrows pointing inwards usually accompanied by a sound effect means reduced by number, so get in
and orange just means gtfo
Especially in expansions outside of the standardized stack, cleave, and tankbuster markers, you just kinda have to learn and/or look at the boss more often
(It's fun watching new players die in ShB trials :3c)
moment of silence for my boy coincounter
they did him dirty
but yeah, if you can get a grasp of the standardised markers then you'll broadly be OK
I will try to see if I can find it
it was like this but significantly bigger and didn't come from any of the moogles
like it covered a quarter of the arena
It came from one of the moogles but I don't remember which one
Isn’t that the dancer Moogle buff radius?
bard. yep.
Thornsmarch is just a clusterfuck
means get all the enemies out of it
no idea why it was so much bigger than then
uh. potentially the blm
if everyone ignored it and let it cast pom flare then that's probably about that size
and I died to a blue AOE so thats something
did everyone die or just you
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
What shade of blue
(This is why I don't like thornsmarch; it's such a clusterfuck for a level 50 instance)
like, murky blueish green or something
THAT was the paladin
it's cast near the end of the fight when king mog boosts the paladin add
Quick question, does food stats on the lodestone only show it at NQ?
usually in conjuction with the warrior(?)'s thrown for a loop which provokes people to move into it
It should specify in the item but I'd assume so, yes.
wasn't thornmarch kind of shitty
i'm surprised someone survived it because that's usually a oneshot for anyone but a warrior with cooldowns, synced
some order like kill the blm first then so and so and so
I was watching someone else to see what am I supposed to do and I was watching the only other guy who had absolutely no idea
I think the only tip I got was 'kill the blm first'
thornmarch is just a disaster
and then smth about the whm
try to follow the order if someone sets it and avoid what looks avoidable
and then the rest of the moogles
besides that just take advantage of the fact it's ARR content and vaguely a breeze
the blm's a bit of a nuke apparently so maybe that was it
ARR content is normally pretty cheesable but there's shit like the midgardsormr dungeon where tanks can't seem to get the positioning of the dragons right and dpses are panicking and dying to AoEs
four sprouts in that and you're probably all toast
Does anybody have any targeting tips for healer mains? Are there hotkeys or features that I could use to avoid needing to click my tank's name every time I want to heal them?
shift focus
*shift F
right?
makes you focus target the tank so it appears there even when you're looking at other targets
f keys are default set to your party member
Is it possible to set multiple focus targets?
but that's valid
no
uhhh no
thats not possible
that being said
you still have to click on them or their name to heal them
maybe move your party bar closer
or target them as the main target
to the middle of your screen
focus target just lets you see their hp and what they're casting
it's good for bosses as well if you're not healer
but yeah the only tip maybe is move your party menu closer so it's easier to click
you need to keep an eye on it anyway
The problem I have is that I lose track of my cursor when it's too hectic
have you put the special ffxiv cursor setting which makes it a bit bigger? I guess I can understand that
Oh yeah I haven't looked at cursor settings, good idea
but if you hover your cursor around the party menu list anyway because you're probably just using mouse for camera angle
There's so much to modify and it's hard to navigate the menus after taking a break :(((
yeah haha
but HUD layout would definitely help
like I moved focus target bar right above all my skills
and the menu for party bar is like middle of my screen to the left
ty!
and I have HP/MP above my skills rather than under is and shit
If I set my tank as my focus target in the beginning of the alliance raid, will anything make it go away?
is there no way to get deepshadow gear?
Alright, thanks man
so yeah it does help you a bit from losing your tank in an alliance lol np
Exchange Sacks of Nuts with the hunt NPCs in the Crystarium or Eulmore.
oh thanks!
do the invisible walls not exist when you are flying
I think they do
they're just further away that you think
you can fly over terrain on map that isn't visible for example but only to a certain point I'm pretty sure
yeah I can fly over way more things than I expected
like so coerthas you can fly from the entrance to ishgard to the cliff opposite over the chasm
you just can't land there

are the crystal tower quests really necessary to continue main quests?
well yes but I can still continue the quests
you'll get hard stopped eventually
No, the game dialogue did not lie to you when it told you you had to do them.
I got hard stopped for crystal tower
it's not bad though it's fun
you meet graha
my friend fucking loves graha
so it was hype
wait shit
Back when I started (never finished) my zodiac grind, there was a tool that notified me when certain fates pop up, is that still a thing?
Is Urth's Fount (Odin trial) considered an extreme? I've been sat in a duty finder queue for over 95 minutes now
Yes and no.
How can I tell what Conjurer, Thaumaturge and Arcanist is gonna be?
I wanna try a magic class
It is not a part of the trial roulette.
I'm guessing I should have used the party finder instead?
uhh we can tell you! arcanist branches into two classes that level together
I think I wanna play summoner
summoner and scholar
It is grouped with the "Hard" mode trials and has fairly simple mechanics, but the high damage values are more in line with an extreme.
Is summoner fun/ok?
Conjurer -> White mage
Thaumaturge -> Black mage
Arcanist -> Summoner and/or Scholar
I play tank/healer more nowadays but only after I got to ishgard and picked up those classes
it's fun post 60 apparently like most dps
All jobs are ok.
they get better and more enjoyable the higher you go but you can sort of figure if you like how it plays
i started with arcanist and played summoner for a whole expansion and a half, i wouldnt say it isnt beginner friendly
really?
All jobs are viable. Balance is very good in this game compared to other MMOs on the market.
I think it's okay it's just people recommend archer to beginners more often
No job is beginner-unfriendly.
but yeah it's probably alright
Different people may find different jobs more intuitive.
fair
there isn't a class in end game raiding where you would be hard griefing your party by playing it
but yeah arcanist is neat because you get two classes when you level up smn or sch
so that's cool
you can clear week one with any composition as long as you have one of each role
Archer/bard at high levels requires attention to a lot of random procs and a lot of button presses per minute, for example. It's a lot of effort to keep up with.
ngl it's just play what you think is fun then, mb
I thought summoner was neat but it's not like you can't change anyway in future so it's all g when you can try different stuff
yep i think thats the best advice to give new players in this game
especially since you can literally play every class in the game
I started with smn, tried healing and tanking and stick to that more nowadays because that's what I think is fun personally
right!
How do I set up an unsynced party in the finder?
bard i think introduces its concepts in a clear progression
undersized party
you have all of the key things by like, level 52
Gladiator is pretty simple for me being new, just tank the damage basically
Thank you
np
I think the best thing you can do is read your skills ngl
Tanks are really simple in execution, and I'd give them a solid recommendation to newcomers too
you would be surprised how many people don't do this
but some people are daunted by the perceived "responsibility" of the role
Tanks for the most part have the easiest mechanics for most duties.
legitimately my friend was surprised I knew what surecast did
the bar is low
apparently tanking gets a bit more challenging in 70 content but that's not a bad thing
?
In reality tanks don't really have significantly more "responsibility" than any other party member, but the feeling can be hard to shake for people who are anxious about performing in public.
Things start to hit harder since you get more personal mitigation at 60-70 for most tanks
i would say tanks have more mechanics this savage tier than dps
Like this beauty for Dark Knight
!action The Blackest Night
Creates a barrier around target that absorbs damage totaling 25% of target's maximum HP.
Duration: 7s
Grants Dark Arts when barrier is completely absorbed.
Dark Arts Effect: Consume Dark Arts instead of MP to execute Edge of Shadow or Flood of Shadow
yeah super sweet
so things getting harder post 60/70 is actually more things to do/more fun for tank
because at that point you probably know the game pretty well too
the final fight this tier literally gives tanks double the amount of mechanics than dps
tank mechanics...
That’s why I said for the most part.
also your perceived responsibility is also probably just knowing that if you wanted to you could kill everybody and yourself lmao
I know for me it sure was but I'm getting over it
there aren't many in low level that are tank mechanics right?
in arr maybe just the aetherial tear with the meteors?
Little bits here and there depending on the exact dungeon/trial, but yeah.
Like Keeper of the Lake’s final boss adds having proximity-based mechanics if you take them too far or too close to the boss
thinking about it more, i would say in almost every savage raid tank always has more mechanics than dps
one exception i can think of is the tank that takes brute justice in phase 2 of tea
tanks had never seen that stuff before as sprouts and dps weren't used to so many aoes
(Easy way to remember for that dungeon is just tank where the dragons are. They’re already at their ideal spot)
why is it keep telling me my mount cant fly any higher when I definitely can
one closer to midgard one further right
Zones have invisible ceilings.
uhh because of the terrain you can only be a certain distance from it I think
Imagine thinking tanks have the least to do in most fights
because you can't dude
but I can
but when you move to a mountain or something sometimes the ceiling accomadates for it so you can fly over
it gives me that message when I still have space above
before actually hitting the invisible ceiling
It gives you that message when you're like
It’s a warning for when you’re about to hit the top.
two inches from the ceiling
You can disable the altitude warning in the character Config if you find it spamming the error a lot
but yeah keeper of the lake seems to be a big jump from what people new to ffxiv are used to in arr
like I've done the dungeon twice and both times we wiped at least once because tanks aren't used to positioning and dpses aren't used to so many aoes
thankfully everyone was quite patient
I remember being pretty surprised the first go around about the sheer amount of stuff.
The being black mage did not help
definitely not
it was the first itme I had to use rescue
healing it is a nightmare as well
tanks don't understand at that point that dragons are like... 180 degrees of death
and obviously where to tank them
it's jsut a jump
Coming from WoW at least I was super wary about dragon parts coming in
So that helped
yeah..
the issue is it's not only the tanks but also the dps in keeper of the lake facing pressure
so many aoes
and in turn that means the healer's going nuts too lmao it's just not kind
more fun though compared to what arr usually offers
Where did you find the char files so i could copy settings over to my alt?
All tanks have basically the same overall mitigation and are extremely close in damage (2-4% variance from best choice to worst choice)
It really just comes down to which ones you like the play style of the best
For an easier overall rotation I would definitely say Warrior and maybe Dark Knight.
As a new player, you only have two choices to start out with: gladiator (becomes paladin) and marauder (becomes warrior)
The highest damage goes to gunbreaker, but by such a small margin that literally no one cares.
Your own skill and comfort with the class is the most important factor.
Are there druid/shapeshifting class a like?
no
Or summoner the closest?
20 votes and 10 comments so far on Reddit
But I have a pet?
Yep
Part of Summoner’s rotation sacrifices/converts their pet/Egi into a dragon/Phoenix
a friend mentioned in passing to me that there's a shrine to Byregot somewhere around Camp Tranquil~? does anyone know where this would be o:
Should be directly north of the camp on the ground floor.
gotcha, i'll take another look. tysm!! c:
Northwest
Somewhere along that northern border
It's just a stone with Byregot's emblem etched into it.
There are such stones throughout the base game areas, dedicated to each of the Twelve.
's all i need! cx just want to get a good /pray in before some crafting work lol
Okay how can I know which one I have the settings saved on?
inb4 byregot gives you an excellent before great strides>byregots blessing during your crafting macro

You’ll have to rely on the “last modified” time to tell which character is which
Hello, I'm very new and I have 2 questions ... I'm an archer or a bard (I'm only lvl 26) but does it make a difference leche grand company I choose? And for my Archer Skill "Head Graze" does it stop any action or how is that meant?
Grand company choice is mostly for what gear looks the best to you
head graze will stop a cast with a red cast bar
(what's your favourite colour essentially)
only if it is red
oh wait is that the same policy for interrupt/stun on tanks?
More accurately, a pulsing cast bar
the normal casts will not be interrupted by head graze
Yep
only for interject
I have to do whole entire raids just to progress in the story?
The wording in the tooltip is key
I see
Only the crystal tower raid is required for MSQ
The rest are optional
"Interrupts" means what interject does on tanks.
so the cast bar will be red
Whereas "stuns" means....stuns.
that's nice to know
well I hope it's easy then
true lol
Ahh ok make Sense .. with head graze ..
Thanks for the Help! ❤️
The cast bar is always the same colour
for mobs that are not immune to stuns, you can use an action that stuns to stop a regular cast
But the "interruptable" cast bar has a pulsating border emanating from it
24-man raids are designed as casual content, and in the case of the Crystal Tower, people vastly overgear the fight
So I thought they where in order from creation meaning I most likley have removed the template I would like to use loll
you can retrieve it from your recycle bin then
I havent deleted anything
are there enough interruptable cast bars in future that it mandates keeping it on an easy to reach place?
Just copy pasted over it
yes
They appear every now and then, like once a patch or so
it is required for some extreme and savage fights
when you need it, you need it.
It's very useful in puppets bunker
if you plan on doing palace of the dead also
ahh but for everyday bosses in dungeons it's not all that necessary?
though I will keep it where I have it
You can probably get by with having it on an obscure keybind or just an easy to click slot
Not necessary but less damage taken is less damage taken
the thing is you will need it one day
rn I have it on ctrl 2 or smth
occasionally dungeon adds, particularly in shadowbringers, need you to use it too
(though the tank usually keeps an eye on such things)
then what about stun? same policy?
no
or trash stun
but it can be pretty far away
this for stuns
you only occasionally need it
Iirc almost all bosses are stun immune by shb
its good for dungeons
You don't have a stun as ranged
stun is mitigation on trash basically
not something you usually need to worry about, to be quite honest
I just do it for the sake of it
because you can stun a mob casting an aoe to stop it instead of running away and losing uptime
If anything learn stun for the msq roulette and your teammates will thank you
there's practically nothing else I can press in satsasha
yeah one of the mines be like that in low level
yeah it seems like one of those kinds of skills
the higher level you go the less you'll probably be able to use it
that's probably the best tip I've had
usually I just chance it because I can't tell
interrupt mechanics on bosses at later levels are few and far between enough to be remarkable as a mechanic
e1s
yes
Believe so
i can count I think 1 time it's 'needed' in the entirety of Shadowbringers outside of extreme or savage, and even that's uncommon
so putting it on a further keybind is probably a good plan if it's rare enough
yes, that sounds fine
what of things like arms length then? it seems like same policy if you need it you'll really need it
I think the most I've used it in the past few weeks has been Castrum
no, AL IS common
is very important
as a tank it is a defensive cooldown
Ah yeah
Arms Length also has a slow in addition to canceling knockback
Arms Length is also mitigation for trash mobs
as a tank u should use in dungeons
and VERY, VERY frequently mechanics will fuck you over if you don't anti-knockback
I c ic
that makes a little more sense but would've been nice if they clarified
in the skill description
plus many mechanics have knockback elements which you can just uptime monkey through if you use surecast/AL
they did
they did?
Yeah, sorry, I still think old school so Slow is "attack/cast" slow and movement slow is "Snare" in my mind.
f me I guess I can't read
!skill arms length
it just says 'slow +20%' I just assumed it meant you were slow
keep in mind the slow isnt a movement speed
yeah I realised haha
its their cast speed and autoattacks
ngl i thought it meant that too at first
that's what I wish they clarified
ff tooltips don't mince words, once you figure out what they mean you're fine
The tooltips are a bit stuffy but they are consistent with their terminology
you can also nullify some knockbacks with gapclosers right? not sure where I heard that
yes
that's true
if you time it right
yes but it requires perfect timing
Yes, if you time them right. YOu'll basically start to go back and then rush forward.
so if AL's on cd or smth then good luck with gapcloser lmao
in essence, you press gap closer after the kb but before you're out of range
don't count on it to save your life
definitely not
which unless you're a dnc requires snap reaction
usually if u dash at the end of the cast bar it should work (if there is a cast bar)
It also depends on how “fast” the knock back is
For some fights it’s easy, others it’s impossible
plus you're at the mercy of ping to an extent
dnc dash has a SLIGHT delay
And the timing isn't consistent mob to mob. Eden 4 for example I can nullify the knockback with it EVERY time without fail. The Lizard boi in DR? Maybe 25% of the time on a good day.
Long question:
about to be new player here, was suggested to try out FF14.
But before i commit to doing anything i would like some info on play styles, builds and realm choice & general information.
In the past I have played 2 mmo's before:
- WOW (classic, MOP, WOD, Legion expansions) as Tank, classes vary, i had them all/kept them all at max level (mythic raiding CE difficulty)
- Runescape (casually/ ingame ironman mode)
Ofc if this game has the 3 class style i would love to pick-up whatever tanks.
extra: does stuff similar to Weakauras exist in FF14?
is that an intended mechanic for gapcloser or is it just a side thing that they didn't bother fixing

DBM and Weakauras CAN exist but they're massively less used because the necessity for them doesn't exist
keep in mind not all knockback skills can be nullified with arms length and surecast
This is a trinity game with tanks/healers/dps.
There is nothing like weakauras. Addons are not supported. Fights are designed with clear mechanic tells and markers.
that too lmao
although most can be
some things just have to happen? are there any indicators or do you just.. find out
mm, cactbot. but yes, addons are technically against ToS and are at no point 'needed'
i presumed so, most games are.
so how deep dive answer into Tank classes/builds: what's the meta, what's fun to play
this game is well balanced
you just find out for the most part
Aqua - It's a trinity game, but one thing is Tanks/Healers ARE still a DPS source and it's expected of you. So as a tank you'll be expected to keep aggro, position mobs well, but also beat the snot out of things as much as possible while doing that.
and you can take educated guesses
no class pick will actually affect your capability
nothing will carry you, and nothing will sink you
Cactbot is kinda defunct and heavily out of favour, and can totally get you banned.
Any job can still clear any content
from skill names and stuff as well... I always thought it was funny how if it was your first time then you'd just have to guess what a cast did by the name and the time it took to cast it
And it's not on the level of weakauras.
also a lot of people will look down on you for using cactbot to clear high end content
The game is not designed for addons and what addons are created are combated by the devs and heavily looked down on by the community
Keep in mind, the free trial gives you access to 3/4 tanks up to level 60 and the first expansion. So I'd definitely recommend starting with the Trial. I have all four tanks maxed and they are very well balanced. They FEEL different, but I can complete any content with any of my four.
if that is something that you care about
Must clarify though, ACT is 'fine' while the devs will not endorse it and it's technically against tos
and the devs willingly turn a blind eye to
everyone uses it and it's a don't ask don't tell
ya duh, that's true everywhere, you need to keep agro, optimise mob position, know every single mechanic in the fight, know what each of your teammates is/should be doing. ontop of being slightly below the dps in dps output, but still doing a pretty high output.
(mythic raiding CE difficulty)
^that was the highest difficulty of raiding existing
There is also additional function to ACT where you can set sound triggers to help you with certain mechanics
raid groups vary re: how kindly they look upon using such things
some people consider it a crutch
yoship said technically someone can have the battle log open and calculate their dps on a calculator so act isnt technically against the rules
ijoshgu dude...
why did I turn half invisible in the middle of the fight
so realm choice? i saw there's diffrent realms/stuff on the roles in here.
i know nothing.
calculator....
Ehh, not necessarily everywhere. As an old school EQ guy no one cared about my Deeps as a tank. Different mentality for differnet' games. I haven't played WoW in AGES so I don't know the current meta.
Everything's basically cross-world within a given data center
realm choice b r o a d l y irrelevant. which region are you based?
thanatos
Individual server choice isn’t relevant for the most part
shiva has a lot of germans
Data center is the only thing that really restricts who you can play with.
from what i heard
That's a debuff, invisible means your hits will not land on any enemies, except Thanatos
Ahh, Greg - You became a "Ghost" so you can damage the bost. Only the Ghost Group can damage him.
I believe for EU you can pick anywhere and it will make negligible difference
Your hit will miss the succubus etc
the content scene is about equal
idno abt other servers on light
Chaos and Light are the EU datacenters, both physically located in Frankfurt, Germany
In EUs case the notable worlds are Shiva for German players and Moogle for French players
that's what they said on wow when i joined in mop, but aren't guilds realm-locked?
for the most part
Free Companies (guilds) aren't really raid groups.
Yes, but the concept of 'join a guild/FC to raid with a group' doesn't hold true in this game
Purely social in 99.9% of cases
Guilds in FFXIV are mostly done for the social aspect
People form static
People don't use FCs as raid organisations
oh I see
Guilds aren't as content-centric in FFXIV. You'll be working with a "Static" group which may or may not be in your guild for high end stuff.
Many FCs do run raid groups, but the community concept doesn't hold as much water
You can raid with people on other servers on your data center
wow I just suddenly realised that yeah
there are raid focused fcs but as lyon mentioned most of them are social
so I guess if you're looking for people to play with you're better off online like here?
excellent proc at 7% with 10 stacks, and it hit 100 🙏 praise be our great Byregot
you can check community finder website for actively recruting fcs on your server
Most people raid with people cross-world who may or may not be in FCs with each other, and organise through discord
can also set up an ingame crossworld chat channel (linkshell) for your static
Also, regarding 'builds' to clear that question - classes in this game have no customisable element in progression content. They also have a very mappable 'perfection' - you play right, and you can aim for minmax perfection down to the GCD, or you play wrong
Talents i.e. wow are not a thing
There are no specs either
but you'll find the design of classes in this game are a bit more fleshed out to boot
You cannot make a Ninja into a evade tank for example
i would link you to the europe raiding server but i assume you wont be interested in that for a while
Yeah, no builds or specs to speak of (outside of a few milliseconds difference in gcd speed preferences)
so can i have a flavor/play style tl;dr on Paladin, Warrior, Dark knight and gunbreaker?
Aqua - ON thing you'll want to eventually look up is how high end timers work for loot. It's not the same as other MMO's I've played where you c lear content and get locked out from playing it. It affects how much loot the group gets doing the content. I can't speak to the specifics as I've never done Savages/Ultimates myself, those days are LONG behind me.
you can play all jobs on one character
you can play those tanks, but you will not play 'differently' on, say, your drk to any other drk
well you could but you'd be playing wrong, or they would be
You will be differentiated by your skill level.
if you want to play it optimally then no there is only one way to maximise your dps that varies between fights
lol how would you play wrong, not using your CDs? I guess actually
lmao
to put it gently, 'that's just how i choose to play' is very often a defence used in this game by people who play bad and don't want to admit it
Incorrect alignment
Not reaching as great a height of optimisation and coordination with your party as the next guy.
"I don't want to do this cuz it is too difficult to remember"
what is this supposed to be, am I getting called out for being bad
rotation is gcd correct? and keep your cds rolling? I'm still low level so I don't understand much
"I'll use fire spells when i want to"
an ASCII art drawing that is too wide to fit into your chat window
rotation is the order you use your skills
@pulsar escarp GCD are your Weaponskill and spells
on wow i always had a tiny self made compilation of timers, buffs and debuffs on my screen to keep track of my rotation and upkeep.
it's a dumb ascii art showing that you should break line of sight with the mechanic to not die
Rotation is just the most efficient order to use skills to achieve most DPS
OGCD are your Ability
Dark Knight - Edgy Boy, has a quick recast defensive cooldown that's really sweet and can be cast on other tanks, so makes a great OT as well as MT. Fairly simple combos.
Paladin - More complicated rotation, balanced around keeping DoT's up and a periodic magic "Burst" DPS Phase.
Gunbreaker - Fast-paced, action-centric with a lot of skill weaving, but beats the snot out of things like a melee deeps.
Warrior - Best tanky boi (imho), high mitigation, simple playstyle, DPS burst phase can be combined with a lifetap on melee to regain lots of health.
yeah
You weave oGCD in between your GCD
And doing your GCD and oGCD in a specific general order, then looping the order, is what we call rotation
you can easily move locations of buffs/debuffs on your screen and blow them up to larger using default UI customisation - and any 'trackable' thing required for throughput usually has a stylised gauge/meter unique to the class
you can highly customise the layout of your HUD to place timers for your CDs in convenient positions on your screen
using the ingame hud customisation feature
yeah I got that, rn I learnt the opener for drk but from I'm slightly unclear on rotation afterwards nonetheless because of management and how to loop
stuff like this i had
@pulsar escarp go to YouTube
Type ffxiv dark knight guide
Look for a video from wesk alber
Mm. I'd say you can still do that with buffs/debuffs
i would say warrior is the easiest to play at the highest level, then drk and gnb, with pld being the hardest
yeah FFXIV's HUD customisation options can basically do that natively
And uptime things for the class are tracked by the stylised gauges that just exist
Take your time to practice and to absorb all these knowledge
between paladin, warrior dark knight and gunbreaker what one is not in the basic?
I'd second mila's summary. But your mileage may vary.
Don't worry about knowing everything on week 1
a lot more buttons
yeah I got opener down
and yes you need all of them
oh, and how much is the subscription?
!faq subprices
!faq subprice
just still shaky on how to manage mp and when to fire off stuff and how high/low it should be
but I will get it in future!
there you go
It just takes practice
pld > gnb/drk > war
Yeah, guys, it's THAT time again, me, asking stuff. -Amelia, where did I put the phone? <Me, while holding the phone in my hand.
Question: Where do I go to open the stellarclusters?
Aqua - Gunbreaker, you'll need to have at least one class at 60 and the current expansion to access Gunbreaker. Warrior, Paladin are base game, Dark knight is Heavensward so you'll need... a 50 class at least.
8Ship - Eulmore.
Black Mage's job gauge (don't panic, it has a simple/practical toggle) tracks for example the level of fire/ice you're in (top left) WHICH phase you're in (middle) the timer on enochian (top right) and the ticker until a new charge of polyglot (bottom right)
I thought gnb needed you to have one class at sixty? or do you have to reach a certain point in shb
Ooops, typo there.
Story progression not needed
oh yeah
Sorry about that, 4:30 AM so brain isn't fully awake yet.
that was a mistake I made when aiming for drk haha I thought it would be doable from 30 but small print said 'get to ishgard'
Rowena's Representatives in the main cities, or Materia Vendors in Idyllshire/Rhalgr's Reach/Eulmore
Only the Heavensward jobs need story progression (Dark Knight, Machinist, Astrologian)
once you own shb you unlock viera (masterrace) and hrothgar too
No one at limsa?
Rowena's Representatives in the main cities
I don't remember where is Rowena in limsa, I thought limsa is a main city
So confused haha
IIRC the Limsa ones are kinda near the free company chest
limsa, gridania and uldah are the main cities
oh
it's the lalafel near the aetheryte
okay thanks!!!
they said rowenas representative
gotta be 50+ to get gear I think?
not rowena herself
Derp, thought they meant just scrips
and then 60 and 70 give you other stuff too as you unlock it
oh yeah
I just miss the gridania one a lot
with a big icon on their heads
Okay, thanks.
because of the stairs haha
hard to miss
Ohh, and as a heads up Aqua, don't bother much with materia until you get a class to max level. You'll be replacing gear so fast it's usually not worth it. Not saying you can't if you have a crapload sitting around, but it's not huge.
Wait, did the 6.0 Speculation chat get nuked?
Yes see #announcements
died down since it's been awhile since the announcement event, you can use #archived-lore-spoilers to talk about it
Will return around the expansion release window
more like May
Ahhh, I see now. Okay, I thought I was losing my mind.
ye
It was isolated for spoilers it's been long enough since the announcement that its been decided we no longer need to isolate for spoilers
If I may add more, for combat jobs, they only have materia for secondary stats. The gain from secondary stat is not worth the trouble when you are still progressing. Better gear with higher primary stat offers a more significant increase
Spoiler content about 6.0 should still be kept to #archived-lore-spoilers
but if u have spare materia and you wanna meld for fun i would go for it anyway
For crafter and gatherer, they have 3 primary stats each, and materia for each of these 6 stats. So, you can occasionally use some materia for your crafter and gatherer to skip some gear.
what are the seemingly random pins on the map, points of interest?
you wont really meld it "wrong" at lower levels
if you're zoomed in close enough you will see the text labels on the pins.
points of interest yeah.
other than ||dragoon|| are there any other classes/jobs with characters or other stuff that appear in the main story that i should do first to get more attached?
You can match the trailer
i remember when i first started the game i just wanted to meld the slots but people kept telling me not to :(
None as major as DRG, no
You can meld, just not worth the trouble, that's all
wait why's that major
We are now informing other players just so they don't get too obsessed with materia melding at low level
yeah i get that
will there be other questlines like crystal tower that are required to continue story
A major character from the dragoon 30-50 quests is a major character in Heavensward, and the dialogue will change accordingly if you've already done the DRG quests and met them.
No
Well
oh what
Stormblood raids are required for Shadowbringers Relics, but so far that's it.
I mean they change the dialogue?
You need to complete Ifrit, Garuda and Titan hard mode as well to get through ARR
that's surprising
Yes. Several things can actually change the dialogue depending on other content you've done.
There are hundreds of little dialogue flags in this game
you mean alliance raids?
does it change in HW or in DRG quests?
Correct
that's pretty cool
dialogues that acknowledge that you've completed another optional quest
not other raids
Just the alliance raids.
The DRG/HW example is one of the most major, though
i think the word raid can be ambiguous to newbies
quite nice actually to know
MInd you, I recommend doing EVERY expansions Alliance and Normal raids anyway because they're fun and the story is pretty good.
same!
if you go back and do DRG quests after having completed Heavensward, it will be anachronistic and not make sense
oh yeah that's what I was thinking
none of the normal raids/alliance raids are hard either and i always had fun with them even as a beginner
@jade quartz It's kinda hilarious though in a way, I got a good chuckle doing Dragoon after finishing ShB
CT series was ngl really fun even as a beginner? mind you I got shouted at for something but it was still fun
the fact you can do optional alliance raids (I think?) in free trial is nice too
yeah its really great
i recommend trying everything and if it sucks or is not for you then just leave it
Can't wait to do DS though I'm not sure about dpsing for it
even if queue shorter
want to try OTing for an alliance
but that's gonna take a while in queue right.. 3 tanks out of 24 people
yes
Depending on time of day, of course. Right now the Diabolos queues would probably use being not even 4 AM on a Weekday. But during normal hours, tank queues pop quickly.
oh yeah haha
I got used to nothing happening during the day in my country
I only do things in the evening when people are actually possibly awake and playing and then my queues are almost instant
What are you queuing as ATM?
you can check the server time
DPS?
in game
tank and healer normally
it says ST
yeah ST is same as my time which is a bit uh
sus actually
maybe it's am rather than pm or smth
it says am or pm
yeah maybe I just read it wrong
i think
two are the same so god knows what's going on
but you said you are in europe playing on NA
there is a 0% chance LT and ST are the same
that's why it's funky I'm sure something's going on
unless your pc clock is wrong
it should say am or pm
but yeah when I'm online the only good times are evenings for me and then I get near instant
but even as dps I get impatient
average for me as smn used to be around 15 mins before I tank/healer
dps queues are usually the longest
and became sub 5
yeah.. it's sad because I don't have motivation to level mch and stuff for it
because wait times
you can party with a tank or healer friend
a way I could get round this is maybe party with friends
yeah but I don't have friends and can't party so for now I'm in tank healer limbo
not that I mind
That or start to find stuff you want to do in the world while you queue. So for example I did a LOT of the ShB relics by queueing a DPS I was leveling, then flipping to a 60+ DPS I was leveling and burning through the fates (Soloable pretty easy once you're in Augmented Shire gear and Crazy easy in Scaeven)
I'd just get the quest with an 80 class and let it sit open so I could harvest the FATE's. Annoyed me when a qeueu pop would happen mid-FATE but, eh, it balances out.
ic ic
Can also do stuff like ShB Fates for the gems/completion rate, older Relics, gathering, crafting, etc.
yeah I was just impatient
I'm sure in future maybe I could get friends together to party or something if I know more people in game
that way wait times and roles would be simpler
so how come I see way more ranged people than melee
small sample size probably
Are you lumping casters and stuff into ranged?
only dps
Casters are DPS
casters are dps
right, then yes
there are three dps categories
Then there is more ranged jobs than melee jobs
melee,
ranged physical,
and caster
So there's 6 Ranged DPS (3 Physical, 3 Magical), and 4 Melee DPS. So sheer odds factors in there.
we got a dungeon with two samurai wearing the exact same shit yesterday
our astrologian must have had fun redrawing cards or just using them on themselves
good strat
what is your question?
yeah it was just speed, our strat was 'kill it, just kill it'

Would the laws order shirt be better for whm/dnc or the Exarchic one? 🤔
so now I gotta buy gear with allagan pieces to get my ilvl up?
That's the method or each level cap range, Greg, 50/60/70/80. There are other ways to get gear (Dungeons, crafting, etc), but you'll find tomestones one of the most straightforward methods
nice, cuz I just barely managed to get ilvl 90 to continue the questline
Generally, the gear from each expansion end will last you well into the next expansion. So the Augmented Ironworks from the lvl 50 tomestones will last a good way into HW.
do I stop getting easy gear from quests?
Nah, that continues.
btw when the hell do all of you use lightspeed on astro? It seems good but simultaneously I'm not sure if I should be dpsing more with it on a regular, sometimes I activate it if swift cast is down and I gotta res
like should I just cycle it on cd or smth
or save it for when the party is fucking everything up
save it if everyone is a clown
use it to weave things easier and move for mechanics if not
yeah the issue is I'd like to dps with it or some shit but like. . I dont' know when people are gonna fuck up and I'd like lightspeed ready to go
that too yeah
I'm only in HW so there isn't much to worry too much about when it comes to mechanics and healing between
For me it depends on the content I'm doing and the people. If the party looks competent and is handling the content well, I use it for mobility for DPS so I can move around more.
and aspected beni is what I use a lot as a bit of a band aid and that's gcd anyway
But if it's tougher content, for me or the group, or they're looking like clownshoes, save it as an Oh Crap button
yeah..
remember if you're in nocturnal, shield before the damage, not after
else there's no point in using shields
a lot of new players complain about shield healers not being able to heal enough when you're meant to prevent damage
it's a no brainer but it's probably easy to make that mistake lmao
oh yeah sch... be like that
but yeah I use aspected bene probably the most
you need to know the fight well to play shield healers
I'm hoping with the shift in design between healers, they develop a new guildhest or something that helps teach people between the two
I see tank hp go down during trash so I slap that on him and then just gravity to hell
because your most important actions happen before damage is taken
yeah
you're basically looking out for same things a tank is when they apply mitigation aren't they
yes
no one really seems to use beni without aspected right
no
I think normally what I do is aspected beni if hp going down and if it's lower than that I'd straight to benefic II
if you need an extra heal and you have nothing else
not sure if it's right but they don't die at least
and you already have the shield/regen
yeah
you shouldnt reapply it, its a healing potency loss
oh def
but usually if they go down I sorta watch and expect regen to bring it back up
hasn't killed anyone yet but I'll bear that in mind
when you say beni i think of divine benison
since benefic is spelled with an E
I just see the colour of the skill and press it
its ok everyone does the same
lol yeah
i can't tell you the names of my 123 combo with confidence on my main class either
helios though seems like you'd never use it if you're in diurnal though right? aspected is probably gonna get their hp higher eventually?
oh ..
oh man.. uh. you just made me think about what the drk 123 names are and I just blanked
helios is used to top the party up more
if youre about to get a second roomwide aie
aoe
but if the regen's up it's probably gonna.. oh I see
and they are still low
so after you've already regen heliosed and they're still low probably go for helios
your cohealer probably should heal in that situation but
not all healers have perfect synergy and coordination
haha definitely not
yeah use it as much as you can without wasting it
yeah I'm always touchy about using skills
I never know when people might fuck something up
like one time two dpses just got insta killed and suddenly I had to put up lightspeed and swift casting rez
try not to aoe heal if the party is not going to take any damage for a long time and rely on regen skills
keep in mind collective unconscious doesn't need to be up to be in effect
oops
wrong skill
edited
oh yeah
the regen from that is also not to be overlooked
So I have a lvl 64 RDM, and is running HoH constantly the fastest way to grind levels?
no matter what sect you'r ein
its a damage mitigation and regen
it seems like whatever sect you odn't have on it compensates for
how can I tell if my server has a good or bad market?
i would run dungeons during odd levels and hoh/roulettes during even levels
BC - That's a debated concept. I'm personally not a fan and think even with the queue time, running your highest level dungeon after your roulettes is the best method
But it'll work to get levels.
are the trial mounts at HW hard to get?
beast tribe quests also give a lot of exp for like 10 min of work a day
Sounds good thanks. Just need to get rid of old equipment from my low level jobs that’s y xD
especially if you are on max rank
Ike - "Hard", no as you can solo quite a few unsynced and if you have a group, just run roughshod over them, but it can be time consuming.
Is there a way to level sync LEVES? I am trying to unlock the leves mission, but the mission it gives me is pacify. I one shot everything. (trying to unlock leves for relic)
try an autoattack
Equip bad gears
Okay so got the blacksmith master recipe I and II but I don't see any other primal recipes in the list except ramuh
by that i mean can 1 level 80 eseentially solo it all?
yes
How do I access ifrits recipes
I don't know about all, I think there's some mechanics that still require a duo. But I'm not 100% sure
Does aggro fall off if you're far enough away from the enemy? or is it just shit I probbaly missed while picking things up in dungeon because that's believable
in overworld ye
also can i just watch cutscenes w voice acted or does the one w out matter too?
in dungeons, idt you can ever run from enemies
everything matters if u want to follow the story
but the critical scenes have voice acting
Master [Crafter]: demimateria
you gotta play tank for a bunch of the hw extremes
i tried doing them on sam ilvl 510
u can also play healer
and use it as a tank
hello! can someone help me find Coerthas Central Highlands (x31.8,y27.9)?
CCH entrance is in North Shroud, should be the Northwest corner, off of Fallgourd float
Where do I get that @boreal storm
Talan in Mor Dhona, each costs a field demimateria 1 & a battle demimateria 1
do the beast tribe quests reset at the same time as the duty roulette?
Yes
I c
Almost everything resets at the same daily time, except for gc turn ins funny enough
There might be more but I don't know them
Can't summoner lv 80 solo ramuh ex yet
If I put something into my glamour box, can I just apply that glamour onto any armor piece for free?
How does dye work with them then?
dye the glamour
In the box or when I've applied it?
either
Oh cool, seems easy
if u have an expensive dye i would dye it in the "box"
if not i wouldnt worry about it
will the craftable gear be upgradeable to 520 or 525 ?
what can you craft at 520?
oh
next patch
i think
will be upgradeable to 520
or patch after

whenever alliance raid comes out iirc
One more q, are the crafted glamour prisms the same in function as regular ones? I checked the wiki and it says weaving gives you weaving prisms
they are the same
Cool, tysm :)))
you can use any crafter to craft them
np
you can buy them off the marketboard too if you like
whats the point of redraw for ast?
if the card isnt what you want
oh wait nvm i can draw still without a card
doesnt give the right seal, all your melees have cards and you draw another melee card etc
thought they changed ast to have only one card now
oh yeah mb
dw ast is confusing at first
do I lose out on anything by turning down party effects because I cannot see a single thing

not really
I don't think personally
better that you're playing well than playing badly and seeing things that are sparkly
means if you want to know what your friends are doing though you might be a bit 'hmm'
I CANT Fly in heavensward?
You'll be able to, but you need to complete some quests and find all the aether currents
is it hard?
Nah
Just gotta find aether currents across the map and also some sidequests
And you get a compass for finding the ones across the map
How to get demimateria of the inferno
Can desynth Ifrit weapons for it
1 per weapon?
the next questline I need to do after crystal tower is the other quest that starts at syele, right
I still have the msq that's before crystal tower is required
I have a question about the upcoming server merge with Endwalker
Does this mean we can all join different servers for free at any time to play with different folks
or are there restrictions
I'm not sure? I think if you did CT you can go back to msq
what is the ifrit, garuda and titan hard mode questline cuz I cant find anything about that
@modern sorrel we don't know any details yet, but presumably there will be at least as many restrictions as already exist on the world visit system.
Unless? Wait is that what it’s asking of you rn
it's not asking anything I just wanted to complete these before continuing ARR so I can finish it without interruptions
Go to the Waking Sands and start with the quest "A Recurring Problem"
You must complete them before finishing ARR.
there it is ^ doesn't minfilia give it?
I already have that accepted that's not what I'm saying
or is that the other one
that's the beginning of the questline
no
I suppose the market won't be affected by this because of the problems that would cause, but there are no specifics as to how it will work yet? There is a service to pay for a server transfer, and I was considering it for some time, but now I'm wondering it I should do it or wait for EndWalker
?
non-hard mode are the ones done during the MSQ 1-50
yep
dumb question, but shared hotbar are between classes/jobs, right ? Not characters ?
server transfer transfers your home world.
that's correct
there is already a world visit system in place to visit other worlds on the same data center as your home world.
There are restrictions on what you can do on worlds that aren't your home world: chiefly owning a house, being in a free company, and selling on the marketboard are not allowed.
The data center shares the markets of all workds, or do worlds have their own markets?
All worlds have their own markets.
