every fish in each hole has a different "hook timing" or whatever, like in one hole the same fish will appear for every tug you get at 7s, and a different one if you get a tug at 9s etc, but it's random which fish you'll get in 90% cases, so a macro to hook at the same time every time will either hook too early, too late, or get you one specific fish

not too much, so long as your weapon is close ish to your level you should be alright for most of the ARR leveling dungeons
ilvl is naturally going to be a bit lowish because you don't get a lot of accessory upgrades in ARR, and those bring down ilvl (they also don't really make or break much, so having meh accessories for 1-49 is ok)

For mini cactpot there is a solver for it you can google. You're not guaranteed the highest reward ever but it helps you out in figuring out the best lines and rows to pick.

It should basically be the highest DPS who'll have the highest uptime, AKA they'll be nearest. So generally if the ranged are standing WAY away and they're losing tether, that is a bad thing. But if you've got a good Ranged Deeps who's smart enough to stand near the Dragoon, it works. As a MCH for example my DPS is 100% the same if I'm at max distance or halfway up the mobs cloaca.

It also could be they're lazy and just macro it to whomever is slot 6, for example, in an 8 man (since party list by default should be DRG Player/Tank/Tank/Heal/Heal/DPS/DPS/DPS).
As a tank my TBN/Nascent, etc buffs I throw on OT's are macro's to slot 2, so if the sorting gets messed up and I don't resort, I could wind up throwing TBN on a healer.

Ahhh, BLM's have one advantage to tether as a ranged. They know you're going to stand the hell still since you're basically a turret.

Heh, In fairness Kat, after playing tanks (Which have to keep still other than dodging to avoid causing issues for positionals) and a BLM, my first other class I leveled was Machinist. I was SO HAPPY to be free to move around I used to NEVER sit still just because I was so happy to move freely. Then I started leveling healers and after a few fights where healing the ranged who weren't near the group I was like "... OHHHHHHH, yeah, maybe I should sit my ass still.."
