Grand Company FAQ

Which Grand Company should I choose?

The only differences between the three Grand Companies are the looks of the equipment and where they're located. The story doesn't change in regards to the Grand Company you choose beside the quest that comes after "The Company You Keep". Here is a link leading to sample sets from each of the Grand Companies:

How do I get Grand Company Seals?

You can get more seals mainly by completing your Grand Company Hunting Log (Go to the Hunting Log and click on the GC icon), completing FATEs, and turning in crafted/gathered items to the Personnel Officer if you have crafting or gathering classes unlocked. Once you are Sergeant 2nd Class you can turn in Pink/Green/Blue-rarity gear in exchange for more seals.

the Spirit Forged bluequest is not tied to the MSQ or to your job level/quests either, it only has to be done once to unlock whatever feature it unlocks.

Mounts FAQ

'When can I get my first mount?'

The quest that allows you to use mounts, 'My Little Chocobo' is unlocked by completing the level 20 main story quest 'The Company You Keep'. The quest is located at the Grand Company base you chose and you'll need to buy the Chocobo Issuance from your Grand Company Quartermaster. You can get the 200 needed Grand Company seals by doing the main story quest that comes after 'The Company You Keep'.

'Are there any differences between mounts?'

Besides looks, all mounts are the same speed along with being able to fly. Some mounts allow multiple people to ride at once.

'Can I make my mount faster?'

Zones have one or two ranks of mount speed that increase the ground speed of mounts. The first rank comes from completing specific quests in the main scenario quests, with the second rank coming from Riding Maps which are bought with either Allied Seals, Centurio Seals, or Bicolor Gemstones. Mount Speed Boosts do not increase the flying speed of mounts.

the classes that start at level 1 are ALL viable for beginners. the choice depends on what kind of role you would like to play (dps, healer or tank) rather than what class is hard/easy

to expand a little on the roles
the dps are divided into 3 categories : melee, ranged & caster
the healers are divided into 2 categories more or less : "pure" healer & "barrier" healer
the tanks are not exactly divided into categories but each of the 4 has their own gameplay gimmicks on top of a general common skillset.

a LOT of stuff has changed since 2018 regarding how certain classes play, so it might be difficult to adjust to the new changes
leveling up a new class from 1-60 is done relatively easily these days so the choice is more relative on how much of the game you're willing to relearn from scratch (and story replay)

Yellow is good for buying hi-cordials and possibly some other useful stuff. Also you need them to buy the tokens that are used to buy folklore books, which unlocks more nodes

I’m a little confused on builds and was hoping someone can help. Coming from other games like eso and gw2, I always find builds with certain gear sets and enhancements. All the builds for ff14 seem to focus on skill rotations. Is this because gear is as simple as maxing item level for a set that fits your job? If so, how do I know which stats to maximize with things like materia (or other things I’m not aware of yet in game). I’m a BLM. Thanks in advance!

That depends. If you're in a position where you're concerned Bozja is hard, you likely don't have an Eden weapon, nor even the upgrade for Cryptlurker. That'd make the relic weapon the best you're gonna get for now. Eventually it will upgrade to the best weapon anyone can get.
