The side quests are mostly there for additional bits of lore. The XP isn't even good. I do recommend clearing blue quests though unless they have the name "Leves of (location)". They always unlock something neat, like a chocobo companion or a new dungeon/trial/raid.

Yes, but not nearly as terrible. You just need to beat the boss at floor 30 to unlock floor 21 as the starting option that people use

So during trash pulls I'll purposefully neglect some abilities so they're ready for the boss fight. Basically I try to make sure I have a full opener lined up. Is this dumb? you don't get bonus XP except for the first time that you run it each day

Skipping will take away some of the context for expansions and some world building but you can just read a summary. There's also ng+ if you ever want to do it
