I know quality does, but I have never heard anything about the amount of steps
People mention fates as a decent way to get xp. Does it matter which ones (since they are synced)? Or should you find some at your level?
ok, thanks
Especially in Stormblood and up since those can have EXP bonuses on them
so quality only, gochu
I wouldn't do fates for xp unless you're waiting on queues popups or you want the loot(ShB fates currency)
Hm, solo play. What would you recommend if I'm just trying to get some xp in but can't commit to a group because I'm expecting a phonecall or something?
oh yeah in this case that's fine
Which level?
I just meant you shouldn't do FATEs over a better option(which are grp based)
50
squadrons maybe but need to unlock them which takes a while
You can use squadrons to 60, but after that there's the whole until 71 with Bozja or trusts
I just unlocked them yesterday actually. They're on their second mission now so should be able to use them soon.
if you have access to HW, daily hunt marks for centurio/xp are HW beast tribes are nice enough xp too
And MSQ is the biggest EXP/hour if you still have that to do
Ok, just barely finished the vanilla MSQ. So hopefully I get to those quickly.
well yeah doing MSQ would definitely be good since you have to do them regardless
thought you meant on a different class
I'm doing it weird because I'm also playing with my wife in the evenings and we do MSQ together. So that's kind of out too. This is for a second job while I wait.
What's the most convenient way to farm ishgard scrips? Gathering massive amounts of materials for a single lv80 recipe, then sitting down with a macro? Would that work?
I find lv80 recipes to efficient
Yes
Don't do expert unless you're ranking. It'll take too long to farm scrips
Do the not expert ones to start and then just macro something easy
I wouldn't do expert because I would have to craft them by hand. With non expert, I can just press the macro and alt tab out until I hear the "craft finished" chime
This channel is for new or returning players to ask questions and discuss Final Fantasy XIV. As a reminder this channel is a troll free and an off-topic free zone. For general discussion please use #general-discussion. <@&473626701947994134> are available to help in this channel. Thank-You, Kupo!
Hey there, curious if someone can explain what the PvE endgame for FFXIV consists of upon getting to max level. I am not interested in things like RP, Crafting, Player housing, or leveling a bunch of alts - I am more curious as to what challenging and fun PvE content I could look forward to once i hit max. Thanks!!
how does the raiding work? how many players? how many raids are relevant at a given time and what is the difference between the modes?
8 players
would i essentially end up raid-logging if im not interested in the other RP and crafting type stuff?
8man raids, one tier is relevant at a time, which has 4 floors(last floor often has 2 fights in savage), ultimate is also 8man, even harder content, only for title+cool weapons
Ultimate is significantly harder than Savage but savage is currently the hardest mode for most of the playerbase in terms of raiding
old ultimates are relevant for the rare titles/weapons too
Ultimate is incredibly difficult in terms of practice and learning them
they are foced synced so you can't cheese them(too much) but doing them later
You need an organized static for it
I guess you could add solo potd/hoh for pve stuff, entirely different skillset/requirements though
and I guess BLU raiding for older content with a different take
morbol mount and such
got it - so theres a normal raid, a savage raid, and ultimate raid difficulty?
Not just hard modes of bosses?
There's extremes for an inbetween
they do combine elements from various raid tiers of a given expansion
for example ultimate coil combines all 3 final bosses of each tier of coil(the original game's raid)
but it's an entirely unique fight, much harder than any of the 3 fights they combine
I guess my ultimate question then is - if i am pretty much only interested in the raiding part of the game is this game worth it or should i play a different mmo
a lot of people only do raiding on this, it's pretty good for it imo
like all mmos though content isn't updated constantly so you might unsub every now and then and play something else, new raid tiers are usually added every 6months
and ultimates are mixed in
Well raid logging and capping weekly currency
Are there tedious daily chores you have to do like in retail WoW?
I think only wow really competes with XIV for endgame raiding though, maybe TESO, not entirely sure how that one goes
well that takes like an hour if you do a hunt train
Weekly normal mode loot for alts/helping gear up as well
there's way less stuff to do for raiding compared to wow, don't have to run lower dungeons for weekly boxes, don't have to do pvp, don't have to farm reps
it's mostly just getting money for food/potions and running your weekly raid stuff then capping your tomes(which can be done very quickly or can be done over several days, it's really easy to do though)
like there's a lot of side stuff to do, it just doesn't impact raiding
yeah feels like a lot of this games appeal comes from the social and RP elements tbh which im not too sure id get a lot of value from haha
or more so im not too interested in that
Story is the main draw
ah ok i see
well for a lot of people
controversial maybe but i dont care about story in games lol
but if you check streams you'll see people who just playing to raid
they skip the story, roll multiple accounts so they have more weekly lockouts
and just spend their evenings raiding
doing pub runs and stuff
multiple chars* not accounts necessarily
you can also try looking at a random clear video of current content or a guide to see if you'd think the type of mechanics the game has would fit your playstyle, since the game plays pretty differently than wow
fights are a lot more scripted for example
oh worth noting if you want to raid but don't want to do the story, you're gonna have to buy a skip for that(and possibly a skip to level your char if you want that, they're separate skips in this), the story is mandatory, and takes A LONG time
even if you buy a skip
it only skips you to the start of the latest expansion
so you still have to play that main story line
yeah still have to do some
but at that point it's more similar to say wow leveling
than if you do the entire MSQ
What are the main differences between the free trial and the subscribed version? Like what major functions do you unlock?
!faq freetrial
Is it possible to party up with someone in another data center?
well rip that
Hopefully that will change but as of right now what wynne said
to the people who are subscribed to the game. Do you think it's worth it?
Yes
yes
I just got it this month and already bought/subscribed. Don't even have a lv 60 yet. It took me a little bit to get into it because it's pretty different than I'm used to (WoW), but now I am loving it.
Meanwhile I just got WoW literally yesterday
I'm sorry.
Well, I haven't played WoW in like 2 years, so it's probably changed a ton too.
I'm also sorry
But Square Enix is being a big ol' bitch and won't let me create an account for FFXIV
I've never played a mmo really and I like this one a lot, but i'm kind of hesitant. I might just play everything the free trial has to offer then subscribe.
That's my plan
what happens when you try? I don't recall having many issues.
If SE ever lets me make an account
FFXIV is kind of unique from an MMO standpoint, being more story-driven than most.
I get Error Code: i2501
Not counting RuneScape, this was my first MMO and I definitely enjoy it
Googling it says that it's a payment failure error code
A lot of people will play as far as the free trial lets them, then upgrade.
Googling it with regards to account creation gives you a few different results
2501 is a catchall error code "there's something wrong, but we don't know exactly what"
The only one of which I haven't tried is attempting to create my account while I have an active vpn
oh, we had that on my wife's account. seriously, use Edge
I did use Edge and I got the same error
cleared cache and all that? try from your phone or a tablet. that was a common solution as well
This will seem like a weird question, but... is Internet Explorer up to date?
Everything on my laptop is up to date
The only thing it might've been is I didn't have the newest cumulative update for Windows when I tried last night
Which I ended up doing before I went to bed
I can't use my level 60 dragoon gear coffer cuz it says I already own it..
But that's impossible cuz I just got it lol
Any idea what's going on?
if you own any of the parts you can't open it
I'd try from different devices and browsers. It's what worked for me. Different comp, but firefox still failed. then edge worked. have access to a few?
Firefox is the only browser I haven't tried on because I don't have it downloaded
I tried Chrome Edge and IE and all three browsers gave me the same error
How do you get materia?
oh also you need enough space and to be in town to open coffers
materias can be obtained once you spiritbind gear(use it for a while the bar goe sup with kills, once it's full you can Extract Materias), market, drops in dungeons in higher levels and other various ways
Do I need to progress the story to unlock materia?
oh yeah then wait a bit
But I'm level 30
!faq melding
How do I unlock melding?
Complete Forging the Spirit (materia extract/npc melding) and Waking the Spirit (player melding) in Central Thanalan.
How can I get my gear melded?
To meld visible Materia slots a NPC melder in any major city will do (marked with a Blue Materia icon on the map). To overmeld gear you'll need to request another player to meld your gear or to do it yourself.
Why can't I meld this Materia to my stuff?
Every Tier of Materia has a minimum item level requirement that gear must meet to allow melding of that Tier. Tier 6 Materia requires an item level of 290 while Tiers 7 and 8 require an item level of 420.
Why is my meld giving +0 stats?
Every item has a maximum amount of stats that can be given through melding and the natural stats found on the gear. This can be seen at the bottom of the Materia Melding menu, as seen in the picture below.
The secondary stat with a higher number is already at the cap and cannot be further melded.
Yeah thing is I'm doing the materia melding job but I don't have any materia to meld
I haven't unlocked it yet
Or extract from fullly spiritbonded gear
Nobody sells materia
NPCs don’t sell them for Gil
ugh, that's what spiritbonded gear is for? is that why it warned me when i was vendoring 100% spiritbonded gear?
does buyback survive multiple logins?
Nope
I don't have any of the items in the coffer, and I'm in a ward and it still doesn't let me open it
And I have enough space
It's the dragoon level 60 gear. I only just finished the job quest so I can't have any of the pieces.
What pieces does it say you already have? There should be an error message that states it
"Unable to use the dragonlancer's armor coffer. You cannot carry more than one unique item of the same type."
That's all it says
Do you have a Fabled Belt of Maiming?
I don't think so. Unless it's in a retainer. Is there an easy way to check?
I know there's a way to item search
/isearch fabled
Ahh okay, hang on
Then right click the item name to search for item
Unless it's in a retainer.
retainer are a seperate inventory, so you you can put uniques there and still have one in your inventory
it has to be in your armoury chest or inventory
No matches found containing “fabled.”
You might’ve also gotten an armor piece from ventures so try searching for the dragonlancer stuff too
Maybe a dumb question, but how would I purchase a subscription? Do I buy the complete edition and that starts the sub or do I buy the sub separately
?
you subscribe seperately
It might also be “Brionac” the weapon
the complete edition would come with a free month, but you'd need to set up the subscription in the mogstation to keep playing after that
Hmm
Could I get a link to where I would buy the sub?
!faq mogstation
you can buy timecards in various places, or you can set up the sub on the mogstation where you make your account(you can pay in a few different ways, but not everything)
That was it. I had probably gotten the dragonlancer pants through a retainer
Thanks for helping me figure that out
\o/
When going through the payment process I am only given two options. To buy the starter edition or complete edition.
you have to buy the game first regardless, can't buy a sub for the game without owning it
when you buy the game and register it, you'll get 30days of "free" sub, then at the end you'll have to pay the sub price to continue
is there a way to get this new casual set by other way than kupo vouchers?
so did anyone here come from WoW raiding into FFXIV raiding and like it better?
Besides market board, no
i'll assume it's super expensive there anyway so ugh :C
yeah quite expensive then, for me at least
just need to wait until it drops in price
shame cuz i really like the top lol
Im lvling my crafters so MAYBE it'll drop me while i put everyone in line in lvl, but very unlikely
or it becomes available for scrips or whatever maybe later(but that probably wouldn't be into late 5.5x I'd think)
cause they're very boring and you can get similar ones in other stuff
true
also check box itself, because jacket & box price seem to be almost same atm
kinda depends but yeah
you can also check other servers on your datacenter
but you probably won't find under 1m
yeah
it's popular and doesn't drop too much
i'll probably wait then for this piece of glamour
out of how many coupons
No idea but I have hundreds of turn ins
nice, im just starting my adventure with crafting so we'll see how it'll go for me, so far i havent even hit a single best rewards, but i havent done many cupons yet either to be fair.
cause if you're doing rank 12 crafting I assume you'd just have hundreds of pulls
yeah that's the thing
I just wanted to get all the skyward stuff, I'm not top 12
where can i see my desynth lvl on each of the class?
yeah and there's a little bar too
godbless finally getting golsmith to 30, i was literally drowning in rings i dont use which i also couldnt turn to GC :X
anyway thanks, i guess i'll just hope it'll drop for me since 1.2m for one piece of glamour is too much for me, given how long i play
I mean the prices will drop eventually too
It's not going away after this firmament season
and you can make money in a bunch of ways to afford it lategame, treasure maps, skybuilder scrips, normal yellow scrips, allegory materials, treasure maps daillies and so on
oh there's treasure maps twice, I meant running them, and gathering them once a day, although if you run them you wouldn't sell the ones you gather
im aware but i guess it's not that important either anyway
i can survive without my precious jacket for now, not like i dont like my current glam, it just could be better. lol
What's the ballpark figures for grinding a skysteel tool? Im mainly getting them based on the promise on shiny but just having ballpark figures to gauge how many to go for
80k gil for the subsequent tools you do
And then about 5k yellow scrips atm
If you hand gather all the materials yourself as well
And just to clarify this is 80k per tool
So about 800k
Total
And 5k scrip per tool
I'm overestimating the scrip count a bit because of possible accidents/failures
Right, anyone have a estimate on the hours required?
hey guys quick question. i heard there is like 7 horses you can get as mounts and then when u show this one npc that u have all 7 mounts he will give u this black golden dragon looking horse mount
what npc gives u the horse quests
There's only a quest for the Kirin (the gold one)
there isn't one for the horses. just quests to unlock the trials to get the horses.
The rest are rare-ish drops from the ARR Extreme primal fights.
wait whats the name of the quest that gives the trials for the other horses and then how to i unlock arr extreme primal fights
You'll need to unlock the (Hard) versions first, and the quests for those start with Urianger in the Waking Sands.
Although you'll have needed to do those for the MSQ
The OG 3 are in the waking sands, ramuh is in gridina...levi is...limsa i think and shiva is somewhere
oh this npc is inside the waking sands
yes
Shiva is in the Waking Sands
i went to 2 npcs with blue marks outside of waking sands
Because reasons
ah, no..inside lol
so talk to urianger he will have the quest to unlock the trials
Yes
now do i just need to do the trials the first time to unlock hard and then again for extreme?
You'll need to do them sequentially on (Hard) mode to unlock those, then you'll be able to pick up the quests for the (Extreme) versions.
I should not do this for EXP right?
It's not gonna be like roulettes where the exp scales with level
sorry for asking but what do u mean by sequentially? (my vocab is somewhat small)
1 after the other
uh... oh lord thats gonna be difficult
You won't get the next quest until you've completed the previous one
it's not. unsyncing is perfectly fine and most likely what will happen
Its easy soloed unsync with 80s
The Extreme ones don't have to be done in order though.
im level 50 scholar with 3k health im gonna die
I disagree ._. I'm still stuck on Ifrit as a Samurai
Just Ifrit, Garuda, and Titan.
that would be your own fault, probably
Oh, if you're only level 50, you might want to wait.
throw up a party finder, say you have bonus and unsync, one 80 and you're golden.
Extremes, well, you'll be waiting a long time, if you can get a group at all.
Ask around for a level 80 to carry you
ik a few
also @frozen girder you're correct. after you out-level some stuff like that quest.. the exp will default down to 10k to make a point that you've outleveled it.. least i saw this as true when i out-leveled certain beast tribes etc.
Just do them on a different job
eh, they served their purpose
they made it stupid easy to level crafters 20+ so..not shocked.
what does endgame gear itemization look like? Is it like retail WoW where its all just Main Stat + Health + 2 Secondary Stats?
yep
damn that is whack
Well gear has 2 secondaries
Out of 4
Ontop of health and main stat
Then you can meld/gem in extra
there are some very few sets with 'set bonuses' but they aren't nearly endgame or impactful beyond like..some extra exp or smth
hey im a miner lv 57 but i dont have the actions from lv50 to 55?
Do your job quests
i jave been
have you progressed to heavensward+
im currently in stormblood
I mean, I'm not sure what you were expecting.
Should I be concerned about missing out on MSQ exp cause I'm gonna hit 80 before I finish the 78 quests lol
Yeah, but not a ton. It's not the end of the world
i wouldn't be concerned.. exp comes and goes, if you really dont wanna miss it your option would be to swap to a different job
Dungeons are the big source of exp
Did the items for Gemstone trader ranks change or something?
cuz I swear I can buy stuff the sites tell me are in higher ranks
uh about that uringer guy for the horse trial thing. i went into waking sands and the entire office is messed up its dark and not a npc in sight
Msq exp are there just so you don't need to grind dungeons to keep up
I definitely don't wanna stop and grind an alt in the middle of the story so I'll just press on
Continue the story abit
more interesting itemization - chance on hit procs, set bonuses, items that have on use or on equip effects
you know, better RPG stuff
Your current story is involving the waking sands so its a different instance
Alot of those would be irrelevant
all of those would mess with balancing as well
not really, ads more flavor and fun - people these days just want flat damage increases i guess
Since "metas" would always exist and additional balancing annoyances
The goal was to have a balanced endgame spread. Adding those things makes balance much more difficult. Also, this isn't WoW. The kinds of things you describe are somewhat rolled into various jobs already.
I gues...
Trust us when we say that endgame rotations are plenty interesting.
It would get to a point of "use this or you're bad"
Imma be blunt, if you want a game to be exactly like other game, probably just play the other game
on a 2.5 sec GCD tho?
Which SE trys to avoid
I mean the raiding seems carbon copied of WoW besides the music and animations
^
So your practical apm is quite high
Raiding is very different from WoW - saying this as a former Mythic raider in WoW
im not trying to shit on FFXIV btw im just trying to understand the endgame
I am not familiar with wow, do wow raid has the same mechanical complexity and dances as XIV?
giving my observations
This channel is for new or returning players to ask questions and discuss Final Fantasy XIV. As a reminder this channel is a troll free and an off-topic free zone. For general discussion please use #general-discussion. <@&473626701947994134> are available to help in this channel. Thank-You, Kupo!
XIV raid focus a lot more on the mechanic solving
WoW raids have more randomized attack patterns, and often a lot more mechanics happening simultaneously.
Gotta remember both games are old as fuck
To the point that addons are a requirement in order to perform well.
yeah, if you aint got dbm for wow you just aint doin it basically
DBM/Bigwigs for mechanics and timers, Weakauras for cooldowns and more mechanic callouts.
mechanics are less randomized here, more scripted i guess.. but this also allows for your healers to dps and not just 'pure healer fantasy' their way through etc
And of course Details to let you know just how bad (or good) you and the rest of the people in your group are doing.
Can they 'pure healer fantasy' their way through anyways or does that just simply not work in FFXIV
You can, but you are wasting your own time
If you're "pure healer" then you're like
In theory you can pure healer fantasy it... but the fights are balanced with the assumption that everyone is doing dps, including the healer.
Literally afking
Because with correct defensive cooldown from the tank and you healing, you will be wasting your healing spells all the time
Enrage timers exist in ffxiv. if everyone isnt pulling their weight, you will not succeed
If you only act when you need to heal then you're active like 10% of the fight
So healers can actually dps in FFXIV
Yes, healers are very much expected to dps in XIV
You can choose not to, but you should
I'm learning
To the point that "green dps" is a meme
if you get into savage/extreme as a healer and do not dps, you will most likely be kicked/replaced quick as heck lol
If you dont need to heal, dps
The higher level your healer is, you get more tools to heal and handle different scenario
70% HP is generally more than enough for everyone to survive
green dps?
Yes
Then you just have a lot of time not needing to spend your healing resources
Astro
Tanks are Dps who takes damage
Healer are Dps who make sure people don't die
Dps are Dps who does mechanics incorrectly and give trouble to healer
^
Playstyle and how they heal
Different toolset to achieve the same purpose
And what they bring to the tablr
That'll probably be me when SE finally lets me make an account for the free trial
tank priviledge, basically.
WHM is the closest to pure heals. SCH has a pet and is more about preventing damage. AST has cards they use to buff party members.
But they have all the movesets required to perform as a Healer
WHM, ironically, is also the closest to pure dps as healers go.
WHM has a lot of healing ability at their disposal
mages be maging
Is WHM a starting class, an evolved class or an expac class
Conjurer is the starter
Yes, conjuer
for whm
It's a "job". It extends from the Conjurer (CNJ) starter class
Scholar (Healer Job) comes from the Arcanist starting class (DPS class)
They're the only class that is a healer from level 1
Hey may someone who knows maths help find how many mats I need to achieve 969696 point as miner? I have 261026 points. Each regular node Is 5 set=13 points and rare node 5 set=15 points. I've been trying to calculate but I get decimals
Since ACN is dps until level 30
What my Rank 1 Lakeland Gemstone Trader look like
Astrologian is a standalone Jobs, introduced in Heavensward
What the wiki says it should look like
back in ARR launch I healed dungeons as ACN but with DF queues can't really do that naymore
wiki is very often out of date and you should probably look at Gamerscape instead
that;s gameescape
I think I remember hearing that Arcanist is what you should pick if you just want to blow everything up
Thats thaumatugre
ACN is your pet-and-dot dps caster
i know they messed with the gemstones..just cant recall when
yeah that's thm, which evolves into black mage, the explosion job
For explosions
THM is your turret mage
Eulmore gamestone trader needs R3 in all areas? or R2?
Arcanist gets summoner (and scholar) who gets pets and space lasers
cuz I can't trust wikis anymore
wish i could tell you, but i didnt have enough interest to persue that beyond 1 area
I have them all maxed but I don't remember when they unlocked
I assume at 3 everything though
R3 in all of them
THM/Black Mage dances between their Astral Fire and Umbral Ice stance. In AF, your Fire spell (take note that elemental in XIV doesn't works like typical RPG, like a tree enemy doesn't take extra damage from fire) becomes more potent but cost more MP, while Umbral Ice lets you quickly recover MP
Gamerescape is a usually fine source for info
Oh
and here I was hoping it would be different now that gamerescape is off the mark for ir
Consolegameswiki not always as accurate
Console game wiki is manually maintain
in 5.2 patch notes they state "new items have been added to bi-color gemstone traders" but that's all i could find.
yeah consolegamesiwiki is often outdated, but they have nicer guides for stuff(like relics and what not)
If you look hard enough, you can probably find gears with obsolete stat in console game wiki
So Thaumaturge is the one that blows everything up
I just like that ot loads faster :D
Yeah, their guides are generally fine
Thaumaturge will become Black Mage so yeah
yeah loads faster too
Wait what's the third Disciple of Magic class do 🤔
Black Mage is a selfish/greedy/Turret style dps
Red Mage
red mage, black+white magic+melee weapon combos sometimes
Turret-style = stands in one spot and throws spells everywhere?
yep
Red Mage can cast Black magic and White Magic. It has a unique trait that let them dualcast spell (casting one spell successfully make your next spell instant)
they have an ability named Ley Lines, its just a small buff circle that they shouldn't ever want to leave that buffs their casting times etc
anyone wanna do titan unreal ? im looking for a party to clear it
and also casting times of course
ooh
Red Mage spells build up their black/white Mana, and you can spend them to use enchanted melee attacks
Try party finder
style points
Is Red Mage the starting 3rd magic class or the evolved one like BLM and WHM
starting
Its an expansion job
Starts at 50
err 50
it's an expansion job so ye, doesnt have a 'class' just a 'job'
Is red mage a good class for a first timer?
well you need to be 50 to unlock it
It's fine, but you can't play it from level 1
I understand I can’t be her till lv 50 though
oof
but otherwise it's a simple and strong class yeah
wait is this where i should look for a group or is there a better place ?
red mage is nice, learning how/when to use your melee combo is good info for other jobs also
At baseline it's fairly simple. You can pull adequate damage with just the basics.
it's easy to solo with with big burst, range and strong self heals if stuff is going poorly, and it has a rez for group content which is nice when stuff goes wrong
And remember shout "Huzzah" before every melee combo, you'll thank me for it
I was debating bars or red mage but I heard bars is a little hard to play
bars?
bars?
bard
bard
Bard is more on quick reaction to procs than hard
Bard
oh
I'm sure this question has been asked a million times, but does anyone know if the carbuncle minion will be reintroduced? Or any idea how to get one?
Sorry auto correct lol
Please refrain from shitposting in this channel thanks
They’re a promo code from the carbuncle plushes on the SE store
Is it difficult to play?
Easy to play, but has lots of small optimizations that pile up
Cheers @obsidian patio
Not valid advice though
I would also like to know this because I plan to make an Archer when I start because it's ranged >.>
I see
It doesn't improve gameplay or help its more silly than anything
Maybe I’ll try and start with red mage and if I don’t like then go hard
Archer spends their time mostly press the lv1 skill, until a proc happens 😄
What do you mean by proc 🤔
!action Heavy Shot
!action Straight Shot
well, lv1 skill has a chance for lv2 skill to be available, and stuff
Something that allows you to use another skill
Oh
At a random chance
I see
Would you say archers are fun to play though?
I like playing archer in genshin impact but only because you can aim
Bards are fun cause theyre high apm
ARC, no. BRD, yes.
well, if you like to kite the heck out of solo MSQ boss, yeah 😄
As BS as this may sound, I find all of XIV Jobs enjoyable
I personally hate bards, but that's subjective, people have different tastes
the only time I feel fun with Archer/Bard
That’s great to hear
At high level, BRD applies damage over time on enemies, occasionally these damage over time will give your BRD resources and let them use powerful skills
On top of these, you have abilities to do more damage on enemies inflicted with your DOT
Ranged DoT
well, it is mostly to proc your skills during songs
Why am I not surprised that the Bard plays songs
Cause thats their gimmick
yelling while shoting
Thats what a bard does
I thought Bard, in real world, are like traveling poets
well yeah obviously, although the songs are just buffs you put on for 30(20?) seconds and give special effects
Who sing songs
30 30 20 is the song rotation
They use music in some way
the actually use of song is also met with skeptical in-game
I wonder why 🤔
not even NPCs believe that it has any use until you prove it

It's part of the BRD job questline
I think Elezen class is perfect for bard
But I used it for my upcoming red mage
Anyone here actually feel cool using the small people?
Forgot their name. Tellel or something
Lalafell
Yeah that lol
Yes people play them
I understand that but do you feel cool using it? Lol
They're most popular on the JP servers, but there's plenty of them everywhere else.
I couldn’t take my character serious
Somebody in ffxiv-discussion earlier was mentioning that this one datacenter is basically a lalafell server
So I'm gonna go with "yes, people feel cool playing them"
Personally I prefer catgirls.
I love my lalafell character, he's awesome 🤷♂️
I just can’t take the game serious if I were to be one
I know
Plenty of other races to choose from.
I’m just saying. No hate or discrimination
That's exactly why I'm trying to create a SE account
I saw banner ads with cute cat girls and I had to check if the game was any good
How do you spell their name wrong after we typed it four times
Layla fell
Autocorrect
Why would I let a little munchkin thing carry around bladed discs that it has to throw
For the same reason people have their little munchkin things carry around swords or axes three times their size.
Yes no discrimination. I think they’re cute as heck
I mean at their size everything is two or three times their size
Because murder hobbits are adorable
the same munchkin that wears 2-hand blade with one-hand as Paladin. I don't know why but some weapons on Lalafell looks oversized
I mean it’s final fantasy. Everything comes in all shapes and sizes
True
No discrimination
I just want to play a cute cat girl archer
Man, ninja and samurai seems so cool though
But SE won't let me make an account
sure. Mi'qote is known as hunting clans, so archer fits them
I just think they are hard to play end game
Unironically that's part of the reason I'm doing it
if you wanna idle chit chat, please take it to #general-discussion
is building the hotspring in Firmament the very last phase?
we don't know
Yes, last phase
oh
I remember someone said about Ishgard housing after Firmament? Is it just a rumor or already confirmed?
No
There's no confirmation that housing is coming
If anything, it won't be before the expansion launch
It would be after
Wait is there housing in FFXIV?
Yes

Hey, question about crystal tower, is the raids mandatory befor 3.0 or is it only til 5.3?
Is it class and races the same?
Oh ok, I'm leveling an alt and wanted to know, thanks
I mean, there is: the job, class, and race?
Question about Glams: If I have a BLM, BLU, and SMN, would I need separate copies of (for example) the Shire Gear for each of their glams (unless I bind their glams to the class and have it auto-switch [assuming i'm in a sanctuary])?
Nah just use glamour plates
did someone listed maybe how many items from ishgardian restoration you need to make, more or less, to get crafter from 20 to 50?
There's no race or class lock
Every race can be everything
Yes that's the thing. I have separate glamour plates for BLM and BLU, but only 1 set of Shire gear so if I switch outside a city, the glam doesn't change
I read this:
''Elezen for bard''
So, Elezen is a race, bard the job, but a class? the same as race right
Yeah thats the only annoyance but its the nest you can do
yes, every race every job
its not like you can keep multiple sets of shire gear on you anyway
since its unique gear
ah
Elezen is a race
Elezen is a race
ok ok
They were just saying that an Elezen would look cool as a Bard
What I said above ok
Races have a very minor difference in stats but it's so small that it's irrelevant by the time you hit level 50.
So every race can be viable as any class/job.
how many are? is someone more cool? cat ones? hahahaha
Miqo'te are nekos
Its personal preference
(also Hrothgar and Viera can't wear most hats for some reason)
Have you seen a Viera's ears
They just have weird and stupid skeleton and structural stuff

Fits in with usual SE fashion

So what's the difference between Advanced Jobs like Ninja, Machinist, Dancer, etc. and the starting classes like Archer and Thaumaturgist that end up becoming other jobs like Bard and Black Mage
Classes go up to a specific job
And job differences are playstyle, role and what they bring
Base classes stop learning skills at level 50. They need to promote into their jobs to get the remainder of their skills as 2/3 of their kit is on their job and not their base class.
So I could technically stay an Archer until 50 but after that I'd have to promote into a Bard?
change to bard asap
It's recommended to get the Bard job as early as possible.
you get more stats, and bard skills
Theoretically. But that's like chopping off a leg
is scoring in season for ishgardian restoration only available for max lvl crafters?
If you're playing as Archer that is.
chopping off a leg
base classes are some remnant from old design that kinda serve no purpose
Job advancement for base classes unlocks at 30 right
basically you unlock your job when you can, then you never go back
yeah 30, but need to do the lvl 20 sylph management MSQ, which sometimes you won't get before 30+ on preferred servers or if you grind a bunch of dungeons or whaztever
!faq Job
To unlock your class' job you need to be level 30, complete all of your class quests and the main scenario quest 'Sylph Management' (lvl 20 quest) to be able to pick up your job unlock quest. Once you've done the initial unlock quest, you will be given a soul crystal which you must equip to become your class' job.
It's technically available as soon as you're able to submit collectables but it's much easier to get rank points at level 80.
So that's how it is
More additional info about class and job
You stop learning skill as a class at lvl 50
are those items you craft to lvl crafter classes from 20 onwards the collectables you're talking about?
Is that also why the expac jobs unlock at 50 and 60?
And level 30 job quest onward sometimes give you skills
South of the Journey inn aetheryte option thing for amh araeng
Question regarding these two settings.
The top one seems to be scaling for if you use other than standard, but the second one is the actual size of UI elements.
Will doing something similar to what I have in the screenshot give a better/less blurry UI for 1440p+ Resolutions? (scaling it to 200% but then reducing the UI elements below 100%)
For Dark Knight in HW, is a job, not a class?
I mean, have to elect certain class to choose DK?
Dark Knight is it's own job.
!faq hwjobs
awesome
Heavensward Expansion Jobs: Dark Knight (DRK, Tank), Astrologian (AST, Healer), and Machinist (MCH, Ranged DPS). These jobs start at level 30 and require the completion of the level 50 main scenario quest "Before the Dawn".
Since the 5.3 update DRK, AST, and MCH are now included in the free trial/Starter edition of the game, though the unlock requirements are still the same.
Job Unlock Locations:
Dark Knight - Ishgardian Citizen at The Pillars (13,9), quest name is "Our End".
Astrologian - Jannequinard at The Pillars (15,10), quest name is "Stairway to the Heavens".
Machinist - Stephanivien at Foundation (8,10), quest name is "Savior of Skysteel".
You just need any combat Job
every expansion job just starts without a class
thanks (y)
It does not promote like Gladiator to Pali.
Yeah, the highest level item you can turn in will give you rank points, albeit a much smaller amount than you would get as an 80.
awesome, can play whatever and then switch directly to those jobs
It will start at level 30, iirc?
huh, thats weird cuz for example on goldsmith the only thing i can turn in is ignots, but they do not give me points, not that i can see any at least, not like im going to try compete ofc i just wondered cuz at the guy where you get stamps it doesnt show anything for me point wise.
Many reasons:
- don't need to let people level them from scratch
- don't need to design job quests (writing, animating cutscene, etc)
- don't need to design weapons
- etc
The Item level of the item iirc.
Look at the ilvl of the equipment
Materia has a minimum ilvl it needs to be to put in. It says on the materia
And ilvl of equipment
So if the way that you change what class/job your character is, is by changing what weapon you're wielding is it pretty easy then to find different weapons
Thanks
Actually you need to talk to the respective NPC first

the quest that unlock a class gives you a basic weapon for you to start with
I see
You cannot go buy/make/loot a weapon and equip it, it won't work
Have to talk to NPC first
Does that mean you can buy/make/loot weapons of other classes still for if/when you do go and get that class 🤔
Yes
Yup
You can stock up first

Does each class have their own keybinds? Or do your keybinds apply to all classes
is it worth to at least get the base Skysteel tool?
@dire prawn you can set up your hotbars in a way so that certain hotbars don't change when you swap jobs
only your hotbars
Because every job has its own action set
Besides a few specific role actions, quite literally nothing is shared between jobs
if you have a hotbar you want to share between jobs (like where you put shortcuts for food, chocobo, and something), set that hotbar share-able
i just got the dark knight class, whats the best way for me to get back to level 50?
Dungeons
Oh I see
and how long will it take?
a few hours of constant dungeon runs
For Arcanist (at lvl 15) should I use Blue Carby or Yellow Carby more often?
Blue.
yellow cuz blue is annoying without AoE situation
blue may potentially lure monsters than you intend
In most circumstances you should never need to use yellow carbuncle
cuz it hits AoE
Pick one
Blue. Definitely blue in dungeons.
Y'all giving him two different answers
Topaz for single, emerald for aoe
can't wait till i get to SMN and get 3 answers for the Egis :v
general rule of thumb is: emerald/garuda for AoE trash in dungeons, ifrit for bosses/1-2 mobs
Titan for when people are monkeys/solo purposes and burst aoe optimization
titan/topaz is if you wanna do burst aoe/need survivability
Miqo'te are cool with their tails
Then Hyur is human
Au Ra are also cool, but wait to HW to choose it
Why wait until HW to choose Au'Ra?
Both the free trial and the starter edition include Heavensward now so you can choose Au Ra from the beginning.
Thing is, every time you change the class, or job, the level is not shared right? Have to level all classes and jobs individually (but faster than the first one)
Correct
So if the Lv 50 HW advanced jobs start at 30 what do the Lv 60 advanced jobs in SHB start at 🤔
Or do they also start at 30
they start at 60
I meant, you start in ARR, complete MSQ quests of ARR to progresss to HW, then so you can choose Au'Ra (HW exclusive)
Yes, I know in free or complete HW is included
oh
!faq expacjobs
Heavensward Expansion Jobs: Dark Knight (Tank), Astrologian (Healer), and Machinist (Ranged DPS). These jobs start at level 30 and require completion of the level 50 main scenario quest 'Before the Dawn'.

Astrologian - Pillars(15,10).
Machinist - Foundation(8,10).
Stormblood Expansion Jobs: Red Mage (Caster DPS) and Samurai (Melee DPS). These jobs start at level 50 and require ownership of the Stormblood Expansion and a disciple of war or magic job at level 50.

Shadowbringers Expansion Jobs: Gunbreaker (Tank) and Dancer (Ranged DPS). These jobs start at level 60 and require ownership of the Shadowbringers Expansion and a disciple of war or magic job at level 60.
Quest Unlock Locations:
Gunbreaker - New Gridania (11,11).
Dancer - Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks (9,12).
SB jobs start at 50
See here
no you can choose Au'ra at the start
you don't need to get to HW to become an Au'ra
same with the SB/ShB races
You already have HW
awesome hahaha
gunsword
Gunblade
gunblade
mch uses a gun
Gunbreakers use a gunblade, which technically isn't a gun. It's a sword that causes explosions.
Its basically a giant bayonet with a little peashooter in it
Yes, I though you have to be in the first MSQ of HW to choose HW exclusives
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Jobs and story, yes. Race, no.
Because they use their cartridges to create defensive barriers
And parry with their sword
Gunbreakers in lore are frontline fighters
So
combos are fairly dps like but thats about it
Technical Question regarding the free trial. I installed it on my PC but also wanted to play here and there on my Mac. It seems the trial is treated separately as I logged into the same account and is prompting for a key. I was able to bypass by changing the startup completed value to “1” inside the ffxiv_boot.cfg, so now I don’t have the key prompt but it’s still saying I don’t have the ability to login. Anyone know a way around this?
It is treated differently
I googled the same thing for going between PS4 and PC and if I do that I lose the free trial
lose the free trial because switching platform?
Yeah something like that
was gonna switch ps4 to ps5, lets check it out
Can I play with the same account on both my PS4 and my PC?
Any advantage in ffxiv to having multiple trial accounts? Another character per world I guess
I though free trial logs into you se account to not loose progress
So if I get the free trial on PS4 and then use the same login and login on my laptop I'd lose the free trial I had on the PS4 on both systems
Yes. You would need to rebuy it again on both platforms
Can I do so if it is a trail account?
@leaden ginkgo no
No, trial is locked to one device
^
uuuuuu
not cross save for free trial then
If you buy the game. You can still cross-save.
yes yes, that is why I say free trial
but, gonna do cheapest method
free trial till HW, and then 30 days free of complete edition
The free trial lasts all the way through HW
awesome
and then, with complete, it comes 30 free days
Yep
awesome
When I’m gearing, should I always get the weapon first?
And after that the monthly sub of $13 USD kicks in
not auto
Yes unless you intent to share gear withim jobs
Yes. Healers share gear and tanks share gear for example
Weapons are all job-locked obviously
Im gonna try in the 30 days free progress SBlood and SHB
Lets see if with no subs it can be made hahaha
Yes, wanna focus on level and msq, and yes, preferred server, I dont care if the people speaks the same or not
But first, for all new ones like me, wait to buy complete for announcementh of release of new expansion
it will be included in complete
just if it worth the wait, but you are gonna save something
I'm a level 44 BLU, is there any way to level up fast
LOL
But I don't have any friends online
I don't have any friends
Or have any knowledge of where to do that
azys lla is the best area to do that
Lv69 mobs HAVE been coded
The map outside idyllshie have plently of level 59s
o
Lv69 mobs are better
This about level up so fast with mobs with friends you are talking.
With free trial can be made? I read there are social limitations in free trial
People can invite trial members but trial people can't invite others
Then, for sure someone in this server is helpful hahahaha
ok ok
Because blue mages can't get experience from dungeons
Wait what
They can techincally
Its just
Much lower
Than overworld mobs
Blue mage is a limited job and cant que for dungeons normally. They need a premade party or turn on Undersized party and Synced to que for dungeons
For black mage, what is the faster method? dungeons also?
What in the hell
Hey I'm really confused on this part of the story of "BEFORE THE FALL" if anyone can answer?
Blue mage is side content more than an actual job
no spoilers man
ok
What does blue mage even do to warrant not being able to queue up for dungeons normally
The spells it can learn make it absurdly broken. So it's designed as its own side game.
When the average time is 15m+
They have their own set of side content such as special achievements and exclusive mounts/minions
Plus they can be every role
!mount morbol
Though all it has ever wanted is to help, this morbol was found to be “too sweet” to present a challenge at the Celestium, and was transferred to the Blue Mages' Guild before it had even seen its first match─only for it to be deemed “insufficiently vile” there as well.

Ok I'll try putting the spoilers on this for the question i have
No genitive form
Oh
#archived-lore-spoilers channel is also more than willing to answer story related questions
also because you could rotate suicide attacks and kill everything in like 20secs
oh yeah they did nerf it on top of that forgot
I just want to die
See if anyone in your FC can help
Kill stuff equal or slightly above your level
But they're all offline
Otherwise just go 1k needle spam stuff
just kill things? BLU is like 4hours of lvling killing random monsters on your own
and maybe another 4 for 50-60
44 would be the west half of coerthas, Mor Dhona, Northern Thanalan, and the east half of the East Shroud
Get you chocobro out to help you too
So if the Bard uses songs to buff themselves and whatnot and the Dancer uses dances to buff themselves then what's the difference between the two 🤔
bard is heavily DoT-focused
Dancer primarily buffa 1 person
With party buff every 2min
Bard buffs are party wide and basically permanent
And then playstyle difference
Bards dots and procs, dancer is a 1-2 combo with alot of procs
And simon says mini game
does anybody know the new monk optimal rotation since 5.4
Does Bard do pretty good at AoE or are they single-target DPSers
Twin every 2nd combo demolish every 3rd
Try #archived-melee-lounge pins
All jobs have good aoe
ohh okk
Bard aoe is fun with rain of death spam under mages ballad
"why can't I hold all these procs"
lol
what are "Claimed" and "Unclaimed" enemies?
I see.
So not all that different than Engaged vs Unengaged?
Not super different
How many players would I need to farm contaiment z1 ex unsync?
Is 2 enough
Its an older content
As 80s, yeah, two is sufficient. Three if you want to be super safe.
Uh okay, I just wqnt to farm for zurvinite and lanner
alright then

Zurvan is soloable (with paladin iirc, probably warrior) so just get as many as you want...more you get faster it dies
