Depending on the method you use to level, your gear may not matter. For example if you level in POTD, your gear doesnt even do anything. If you intend to level by just spamming dungeons you'll usually keep up in gear just by the drops - old ARR dungeons now have the "guaranteed drop" mechanic that they added in HW.

generally i think you'll have crappy gear until you can wear first tomestone gear, tomestone egar + random dungeon drops should be enough for lvling purposes.

Every time you complete a levelling dungeon you are guaranteed to get one piece of gear for your job that you dont have already.

So if you just spam dungeons you're basically assured to be geared up at all times

POTD is a bit of a different thing. That wouldnt be really relevant to you for a long time since you're just starting the game. Its useful for levelling up alt jobs later.

50 or 60 is pretty easy if you've already got your aetherpool rating grinded up. There's only a few things to really watch out for, otherwise its mostly "avoid avoidable damage"

question as someone who comes from wow:
is there anything to take in concern when choosing a data center/realm? for an example in wow the most common thing is choosing a realm dominated by the faction your character is a part of. so if your character is alliance, a realm with 60 000 alliance and 5000 horde is pretty good unless you do world pvp

They happen relatively infrequently (since they usually require a great deal of work on the parts of both the XIV team and whoever they're collaborating with). Which world should I pick?

You can play on any world on any datacenter within FFXIV. Aside from the languages spoken, the physical location of the servers, and the status of each world, there are no major differences.

The majority of content is cross-world, with the exception of Free Companies, Linkshells, and restrictions when visiting other worlds.

If you don't mind where you play, choose a world that is Preferred or New for character creation bonuses. Check world status by using !status <world name> or via the Lodestone. For information about the status types, use !faq worldtype.

They're obtained from the extreme versions of the primal fights. Generally not easy to do through duty finder so best to make a friend so that they can put up a party finder for you if you want it synced. If not have a lv80 friend bring you in unsynced
