some beast tribes might require different things. In ARR the Ixal beast tribe is for crafters, in HW the Moogle beast tribe is for crafters, for SB the Namazu beast tribes are crafting and gathering, and Shb the Qitari are gathering and Dwarves are crafting. Every other beast tribe is combat based

Aside from that important point I really don't think there is much difference which you do first outside of "oh I think X tribe gives cooler rewards so I'll do that first"

'When can I get my first mount?'

The quest that allows you to use mounts, 'My Little Chocobo' is unlocked by completing the level 20 main story quest 'The Company You Keep'. The quest is located at the Grand Company base you chose and you'll need to buy the Chocobo Issuance from your Grand Company Quartermaster. You can get the 200 needed Grand Company seals by doing the main story quest that comes after 'The Company You Keep'.

'Are there any differences between mounts?'

Besides looks, all mounts are the same speed along with being able to fly. Some mounts allow multiple people to ride at once.

'Can I make my mount faster?'

Zones have one or two ranks of mount speed that increase the ground speed of mounts. The first rank comes from completing specific quests in the main scenario quests, with the second rank coming from Riding Maps which are bought with either Allied Seals, Centurio Seals, or Bicolor Gemstones. Mount Speed Boosts do not increase the flying speed of mounts.

In WoW, healers also have to worry a lot more about mana conservation. In XIV things are balanced and healers are built in such a way that mana is a fairly minor concern.

I've gone down to < 1000 MP as WHM and been able to keep a level 80 instance going until Lucid Dreaming and Assize have a chance to get me back up.

In your first dungeon, assuming average gear for everyone, your basic Cure I as a Conjurer will probably heal for a third of the tanks health

Even at max level, C1 can still do around 30k on a non-crit with decent gear. You won't use it nearly as often as you do at lower levels, but it can be a nice spot heal in a pinch if you've got an oGCD coming off cd in 3s, but you need a heal now.
