Which world should I pick?

You can play on any world on any datacenter within FFXIV. Aside from the languages spoken, the physical location of the servers, and the status of each world, there are no major differences.

The majority of content is cross-world, with the exception of Free Companies, Linkshells, and restrictions when visiting other worlds.

If you don't mind where you play, choose a world that is Preferred or New for character creation bonuses. Check world status by using !status <world name> or via the Lodestone. For information about the status types, use !faq worldtype.

Balmung & Mateus (Role-playing)
Tonberry & Kujata (Large amount of Oceanic players)

@thorny knoll personally find it to be more effort than worth because you're going to have to moving your retainers all the time since reduce tax changes. if you're someone who's super serious about the marketboard and making gil then i guess it'd be worth

A retainer is a private NPC that will act as a personal bank for the player, holding up to 175 different items, that can be summoned to any of the Summoning Bells around the world. Retainers also act as your means to sell on the Market Board.

How to unlock a retainer
First, you must complete the quest The Scions of the Seventh Dawn then go to speak to any of the Retainer Vocates located in the market district of any of the major cities.
