'When can I get my first mount?'

The quest that allows you to use mounts, 'My Little Chocobo' is unlocked by completing the level 20 main story quest 'The Company You Keep'. The quest is located at the Grand Company base you chose and you'll need to buy the Chocobo Issuance from your Grand Company Quartermaster. You can get the 200 needed Grand Company seals by doing the main story quest that comes after 'The Company You Keep'.

'Are there any differences between mounts?'

Besides looks, all mounts are the same speed along with being able to fly. Some mounts allow multiple people to ride at once.

'Can I make my mount faster?'

Zones have one or two ranks of mount speed that increase the ground speed of mounts. The first rank comes from completing specific quests in the main scenario quests, with the second rank coming from Riding Maps which are bought with either Allied Seals, Centurio Seals, or Bicolor Gemstones. Mount Speed Boosts do not increase the flying speed of mounts.

All of which are level 1 glamour sets, so they can be used at all levels.

And look pretty good on any models.

main ones you can skip are "So you want to be X" (these are class unlocks and can pretty much do whenever) and "Levemetes of X" (leves generally aren't recommend for combat jobs anyway, so can come back and unlock them later if you want for crafting/gathering)

Gear is bound when you put it in a glam dresser, use it as glamour, or defeat an enemy/craft an item while the gear is equipped
