once you are done with the 5.0 ShB story, you can immediately unlock the alliance raids as well as the Eden raids. the only thing potentially stopping you would be gear requirements

@graceful rock to answer the actual question - our bow class is Archer -> Bard. They are a ranged DPS with a ton of freedom of movement that plays around their damage over time abilities and buffs the party a lot.
If you play gladiator-like classes to hit things with a stick and do damage, consider starting as a Lancer. If you’re not fussed about stick usage, consider a Pugilist. I can explain a bit more about these if you’d like.

I am once again asking how to make this damn game launch properly... I just freshly installed my OS and subsequently the game and can't launch the game. This always happens but I always forget how to fix it
I launch through Steam and the launcher comes up, pretty sure it patched properly last night, I put in my acct name and password, the launcher accepts it and gives me the option to press Play, but then the game doesn't boot and Steam recognizes that the game isn't running after a few seconds

also @elder sinew I think you might be overly worried about aggro generation. I think either at launch of this expac or maybe not long after they simplified aggro generation to the point where you more or less just need to ensure you're in tank stance and hitting all available targets. At that point only other tanks are going to be able to pull off of you

@graceful rock all of the tank jobs are main tank viable and pretty much every combination of tanks is workable
in terms of advanced raiding they all have small niches about what they're best at and what they might struggle with but you can always work around them

PLD is probably the most versatile tank, just don't go around spamming clemency because you're under 90% your healer will slap you

@graceful rock cool! Enjoy the game, as someone else alluded to if you follow the MSQ you will eventually be shown how to unlock other classes and you'll get a tutorial on how to switch. It's literally as simple as equipping a different main hand weapon

if you're new to MMOs or even just new to FFXIV I recommend not worrying about it and try as many classes as you can until you find one you like

For reference just had the moogle fight and a few players including myself didnt realise the first time around that youre supposed to kill the little moogles in order first before getting the tank, the dps guys focussed the tank and we got wiped twice before everyone figured it out.

Just started to play the game coz heard a lot of positive feedback. Until now Im on trial version.
So have few questions:
- Im Eu, so what side and server better to choose? I'd prefer more populated. What is the name of such ones?
- I created Pal but for first my dungeon ive waited ~5 mins for a healer. Does this mean that healers are in more deficit than tanks? Who is less popular and more needed?
- What drives me crazy is Map. Its awful difficult to understand where to run for a quest if it locates on other continent (i guess?). For example I spent 2 hours to understand where to fly and go by boat for (something) Envoy quest line. (For 1st dungeon). Maybe i missing something and there is better way to navigate? I even hardly can understand in what region were located npcs in first town.
- Is it good idea to play on ps4 at all?
- Is it possible to move camera lock more away from character? I feel its kinda close and in mass fights (local map events (dont remember how they called, sorry)) i cant understand what happens around me coz can see only 2-3 mobs filled my screen.
