The augmented gear is coded as completely different gear from the unaugmented versions, and requires the unaugmented version as "currency" to obtain. This means you'll lose any materia attached to the unaugmented piece (unless you remove it first), and will have to slot new materia in your augmented piece.

Macros are only useful if you're doing the exact same item like 10+ times. otherwise, handcrafting is better since you can react to item quality changes (Good, Excellent, Poor) better
that being said, if you have the recommended craftmanship, you can "quicksynth" the item, but it won't guarantee HQ, far from it. You can also mass craft that way.

Coming from a lifetime of WHM healing, I'm having massive trouble with keeping my AST cards up. I'm used to keeping an eye on the HP bars, having the focus bar in my peripheral vision, and doing my damage while nothing happens. Also having to check if draw is on cooldown yet causes me to lose focus when my tank screws up and suddenly drops to 20% hp. Inversely keeping an eye on the tank I frequently lag behind on cards, leaving it undrawn for 10 seconds or so.
Is this something I'll get used to eventually, is that just a matter of AST having more apm?
Or anyone has other tips here?

what you could do is make a hotbar that's vertical and put it next to your party list. make 8 a draw/play macro for each party member, that way you can play cards easily and it lets you keep an eye on the party list
its not ideal since macros are generally not recommended, but it can help

AST has naturally high apm. but you should train yourself not to stare at the tank 24/7. Just glance every two seconds or so. If it helps, in higher levels of play damage becomes very predictable, so you'll know exactly when damage will hit and need to pay even less attention to healthbars.

also Tael, some AST keybind/macro tips:
- Bind F1 to "Target Last Enemy" instead of targeting yourself, so you can seamlessly Malefic - Target ally - Play or macro Play - target last enemy - Malefic
- I personally use an earthly star macro, which places the star on my target, of if there's no target, then on me. (I actually use this macro for every single ground targeted aoe, like sacred soil or asylum.)
- Put your sect toggles in a separate hotbar, and don't keybind them. There's little to no reason to assign them a keybind, because you don't need to cast it so suddenly you can't just move your cursor there and click it.
also if you're gonna make Kael's macro hotbar thing, also make a second macro hotbar thing with Minor Arcana.

Astro has Malefic, Combust, Gravity, Earthly Star, damage buffs,

theres other skills that make it more interesting, but i do agree that healing is boring

@signal garnet The vendors in the market area of Ishgard have crafting gear up to level 60. Although at 50 most of it is level 47 or 48, with the next available at around 52 or 53. And you can use one set for all crafters (aside from tools of course).

As for the 50 crafting gear, the pieces that are available (iirc tool and hat) are second only to the best level 50 gear outside of the 50 relic tools.
