@lime sphinx its part of the msq where they give you a compass to find aether currents, you need to collect them all on a single map to unlock flying there

Also be aware that your class choices will likely mean you'll be starting in different zones. They all converge just before the first dungeon however

@jovial fjord Viera and Hrothgar don't get a lot of helmet options but you can double check by going to your character profile and under the image of your character that is a little hat button, you toggle that and check. It's an auto hide headgear button

@marsh thicket theres currently a buff in the game called road to 70 that gives double exp from all sources until you reach lv 70 in any job for 90 days when you create a char in a preferred world, so if you dont have any attachment to that char or friend in particular to hang out with, it might be beneficial to make another in the long run, but its up to you

No, because the Level 50 flagged mission for promotion to captain requires 5 unique command missions.
That requires you to go into and complete at 5 different dungeons with 3 of your squadron members, those books are for that purpose. (In case you need a healer squadron member and you don't have any for example)

Right click the gear piece and click Dye. If you haven't unlocked the dye option, it's in Western Thanalan in the Vesper Bay area as a level 15 quest. Note that some pieces can't be dyed.
