There are no "bad" choices to make while leveling because you either don't have a choice or can take all the choices eventually, and trying to overly prepare can take away from the enjoyment of the game. Besides, FFXIV is designed to teach you everything you need to know through the main story (up to and including sending you half across Eorzea to explain what materia is...............), basically spoonfeeding you everything. Except stack markers. Why does nobody explain stack markers anywhere?

You can play and level any class, separate from other classes, For example I'm 72 on scholar and summoner, 73 on red mage, 63 on bard, 70 on dancer etc. The only true downside to playing a lot of classes/jobs at once is that pesky inventory space and glamour dresser space.

@hoary storm I was told a couple months back when I asked the same question that in 4-man content it doesn't really matter and in 8-man something horribly wrong happened if you don't have a single melee. Anyroad, my personal opinion is that if you have a 10k mana black mage, toss it to them because tons of damage, otherwise the tanks so you don't develop a "give melee card to rangeds" habit.

the main issue with the 60/70/80 8 man maps would be the dungeon itself, which you could try soloing but you likely won't make it far

Consider also that skipping the story means you'll need to level boost as well, and by the time you start doing HW dungeons and trials, people will expect you to have a decent handle on both your class and dungeon mechanics.
They'll theoretically be condensing down some of the post-ARR stuff that isn't really relevant to the story in the near-ish future.

and gear...well if you have the gear to start raiding then the stuff you're going to get is from raids and tomestones

You tend to want your gatherers to be a bit higher than the crafters so you can gather anything you want to craft with
other than that there isn't really an optimal way except leveling the crafters somewhat together so you can make materials you need for other crafter's recipes

I'm really enjoying the game a lot, though I haven't really delved too far into it just yet. I'm coming from WoW so the classes all have so many more binds going on and a lot more of an indepth rotation/priority system, as such what class would be recommended to ease into having a lot more keybinds to work with?
When it comes to a preference, i would prefer being a melee DPS, not overly fond of ranged. Been playing FF7 remake as i got it early and I was having a blast playing with Tifa, which made me want to go for a monk, but i was doing some googling and they were listed as one of the harder melee DPS's to play, though everything i could find was at least a year old, so I'm not sure how relevant that information still is.

In dungeons, in MB, double DoT just about everything that will live for nearly the full DoT duration. Mix in Apex Arrows as gauge gets above 90 in pulls of about 3 mobs, above 85 in larger pulls. Once enemies are too low to get most (more than ~24s) of a DoT duration, switch to QN as filler.
In AP/WM, double DoT pulls of up to 6 mobs. With larger pulls, apply just a few DoTs instead (including double DoTs on the center mob for Shadowbite) and go straight to spamming QN.
If you’re doing a multi-pack pull, it’s best to double DoT everything while walking. Make sure you have a song up while this is happening, preferably AP or WM, so you can generate Soul Voice.
Don’t forget that there’s a bit of a delay after you use your second DoT before it gets counted by Shadowbite, so wait a moment before using it.
