"headphone splitters" can just be used in reverse as a combiner
It converts the signal into something for your pc or a mixing board
ah yeah I'm trying to remember why I bought that pre-amp what the hell
hmmmmm?
It’s a very dry sound
like I don't need it and I don't hoard stuff zzz
very dry sound? 🤔
so using this splitter will compromise the quality from each keyboard and PC?
if you use them at the same time maybe
Sometimes di sounds are desirable
Funk guitar is a pure di sound
With some compression
Get a di unit maybe a 3.5 to 6.35 converter
Though question is why do you specifically want your pc’s external speakers
Is the keyboards built in just bad
Well it’s Casio so that answers itself ig
trying to find why I bought that pre-amp
or maybe my stupid younger self didn't calculate enough
yeah if possible hehe
Well a direct line into the speaker would be easy
I mean if I can improve the quality, but maybe you are right, I can just use the built-in speakers 😹
Yeah buying a preamp without an amp
Is uh something
oh wait I finally remember..
direct connection between Shure S57 to PC won't work yeah?
requires pre-amp to be able to process the sound?
ahhh finally.. ok nvm
wait so S57 XLR male to 3.5 male to PC will work?
Into the pc not really
Unless the keyboard has a built in di
You’d want to run it through a di unit(or something similar)
Preamps are for amplifiers and speakers
What they do is boost the signal to make it easier for the amp
A di stabilizes the signal
No
That’s for going into an old school vacuum tube amplifier
That’s an old school preamp you bought lol
Vacuum tube
yeah It was 9 years ago
No as in really old school
Vaccum tubes were replaced in the 60’s(in amplifiers)
They are still used when you want that vintage tube amp sound
That’s also a microphone preamp
Can be used with other things but meant for microphones
Sm57 is a very good microphone
One of the most popular studio mics
So you had an sm57
That makes sense you used that preamp with the mic
at least I don't feel that stupid from buying the set, ty ty ._.
You have an sm57 still
what do you mean? I should try to use it? 😹
If you need a desk mic
It’s one of the best
Been used since the 60’s in everything from live and studio music to presidential speeches
ok hmm, I'll give it a thought, I'll try to figure out, this is a good opportunity probably since I just recently broke my headset ._.
but
Though you’ll need an audio interface
Run from the preamp into the interface into your pc
But that mic is really good
I'm afraid if my relative come and see my PC setup, they'll ask me to sing, and if they figured out my voice is bad, they'll laugh at me
interface means?
Audio interface
They’re not that expensive
The preamp will boost the signal from the mic prevent it from distorting and increasing quality, then the interface will convert it into a signal your pc can read
Anyhow I need to sleep gn
night2, ty for the help
Why do you need a preamp for the 57 0_o
Mines fine running straight into my Scarlet
it makes your screen setup look like an H

Wasnt there that YT guy who kept goin on about leaks a while back?

Can dust cause analog stick drift? I have a DualShock4 that was experiencing some intermittent drifting on the right analog. Today I decided to crack it open and just swap the board(with sticks attached) with another I had just laying about.
The one that was just laying about didn't seem to work at all and when I put everything back with their original components my stick drift was completely gone.
I've never experienced stick drift related to just dust before is it really possible? Sorry for the long message.
Yeah it pretty much is the primary cause
First time that's happened to me. I usually have to get the analog replaced or replace the entire controller.
Guess I got lucky for once
https://videocardz.com/newz/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1630-has-been-tested-its-even-slower-than-amd-radeon-rx-6400 oh no the ewaste is even worse than thought 😭
at least it isn't an intel arc
such a disappointment that as soon as the review embargo ended people stopped caring
not even shitty enough to meme on, just disappointed silence
i mean it's pretty bad still 😭 it's 170-200 dollars for the 1630
I copied the game to a new laptop and placed it in its correct location in the steam files
but it still lets me download the game when i launch it
is there anything i could do about it to not have to download the game again?

i mean some motherboards handle certain cpus better if you're using say a first gen am4 board with a 5000 or 5800x3d so i mean in a roundabout way yes, but the testing was negligible for the gains and it would matter even less at higher resolutions
so like is all PCI-E lanes like equal
or does like different chipsets
or controllers
etc
make any differences
for the most part the difference between 3 and 4 is negligible still
as far as i know not really but i could be wrong on that one
also what're you looking at buying now
so what're you looking at buying smh
okay but why those questions then?
they do make a difference for sure but at the current place we are, v4 instead of v5 won't be much different 99% chance
if it was gen 2 or something it'd be a lot worse of course
I was looking at this
and then I remember bidori saying
DDR5 under 32 GB sticks
is dogshit
nah
whats c40
it's ddr4 cl20 basically but the difference between cache latency is pretty negligible for most people
it's the cache latency
how is it dogshit?
32 is fine, 16 is not lol for ddr5 atleast
also wtf are you needing more than 32 for?
yeah, 8GB ddr5 sticks are dogshit because it's not spec
oh ok
I think I wait for better cache to be cheaper then
what should I look for?
C21?\
oh
c36?
whats the equivalent of ddr4 3200
for ddr5
why does latency dramatically increase
in ddr5 oo
wait isn't latency a delay?
so like why would more speed = bigger delay
DAMN
God
Making a PC partpicker list rn for a client
And I'm just using w/e parts I have in stock
And it looks like I'm a crack head pc
PC Builder - AMD Ryzen 7 5700G, Cooler Master MasterBox NR200 Mini ITX Desktop
All this for a secretary 🤣
Because it's so fucking overkill
Literally just random parts I had in inventory
I thought I had some 5600g left
Nope.
None at all .-.
So some secretary is getting a 5700g.
Perfect xD
I wonder if I should buy more 5600g
Or will we get new APUs soon and it'll waste money
Cuz building people's systems these days are using all of my APUs
Canadian dollars
Doesn't really get any better
Also I bought these wayyyy before the shortage so the actual price is ~800$
Bruh
U already know I'm Toronto based
it won't really matter for your average person
Latency has gone up consistently with the ram speeds. DDR2 was like 6, DDR3 8-9, DDR4 14-16. I will say it is a bigger jump than in the past tho seeing as DDR5 latency is what? 30+?
I guess that could help explain why its performance is kinda lackluster still outside of some very specific use-cases
doesn't DDR5 use a radically different structure from the traditional tras setup?
which is why the latency is way out of sync compared to what you'd expect, given the DDR2-3-4 evolution?
They use two half-channels is all I know about
I thought there was some kind of new voltage regulator or something and that's why the latency spiked so much
they couldn't just be like "make more speed", they changed something about the dimm PCB to enable DDR5-6-7
Yeah i want to say ram sticks have extra stuff on them
what do you mean "extra stuff"
And its still new enough that decent latency is stupid expensive (double for a 30 kit which is 50-75 bucks going from ddr4 3600 to ddr5-36)
I want to also say voltage regulation
Registered clock driver and temp regulation
so is this "smart" memory?
Yes it has the controller i believe it is on the ram stick and then the datator something is handled differently
I wonder if the penalty is because of the unoptimized micro
Maybe, i know it also has ECC and such built into it
ECC is a pretty significant performance hit too
I bet most benchmarkers don't know how much ECC slows memory down
it's cheap compared to a salary tho
but you can buy a perfectly capable pc for a secretary for half that
hey if they give you a dumb budget go with it
oh sure Sarah should charge whatever, idc
Kraft... peanut butter?
probably a thing in canada
they all own each other
I don't think they do. Dr Pepper is part of the Dr Pepper Snapple Group
I do find it ironic Snapple has their name on the company when nobody actually buys Snapple anymore
Apparently Dr Pepper Snapple was bought by Keurig in 2018, so its Keurig Dr Pepper now. Also Keurig first started in 1993 wow... it took them a long time to break into the mainstream then bc I had never heard of keurig k-cups etc. before like 8-10 years ago
I knew K-cups were a terrible value, but geezus:
It also fueled enormous revenue growth, and allowed GMCR to transition fully from deriving 95% of its revenue from its low-margin wholesale coffee business in the late 1990s (approximately $65 million), to deriving 95% of its revenue from high-margin sales of K-Cups as of 2014 (more than $4.3 billion).
Ahh, I followed the acquisition soup: Dr Pepper was owned by Cadbury, then Cadbury was bought by Kraft, but they spun off Dr Pepper Snapple which was then purchased by Green Mountain/Keurig.
What is called Rockets there are Smarties in the US heh
The other smarties are also called smarties tho. Knock-off M and Ms
Smarties came out like 4 years before M&Ms apparently
"Forrest Mars, Sr., son of the Mars Company founder, Frank C. Mars, copied the idea for the candy in the 1930s during the Spanish Civil War when he saw soldiers eating British-made Smarties"
RULE BRITANNIA etc
smarties are very much an old school candy
remember that episode where a cat stole his mask
Also how has the tech channel become a candy channel
candy is a technological marvel

get rid of that fancy new fangled QR code
I still don't know why QR codes are a thing in the year of the affixed god 2022
they're a huge security risk because they can be a remote attack vector for smartphones
I vaguely remember seeing an article that there's an improved version of QR codes that don't have the ability to perform remote attacks but I may have been hallucinating reading an imaginary article at 4 in the morning one day
yo sarah, cerakey sent out their survey today
I'm sorely tempted to buy the keys without legends and etch them on with my laser cutter when I get it
bought a second set of keys on pledgebox, probably shouldn't have gotten similar shades but I want to see them in person before I install them on the board
And that DeWalt chair
didn't even notice that, shouldn't it be yellow with black text anyway?
How much grip an eagle got
I got legendless
same
why have them paint the legends on when I can etch them on later
can make them whatever font I want too

I really wanna see how many components I can get that have pastel colors

hi
I was thinking of hooking up some computers at a business.
should I put the cables going up into the drop ceiling or along the walls near the baseboard? Say I used extra long USB cables and a long HDMI cable for the monitor.
would this lag the games?
I don’t think how you hang a cable will affect lag.
(seperating the players from the actual hardware in the back of strore)
Oh.... but wifi would
?
Oh you mean video cables
USB for KBs and mice..
Maybe? I noticed enough lag when I tried to play WRC with a monitor hooked up to a laptop
I don't want the customers to steal my expensive gaming PCs or break them.
ah, but I mean desktops
Gonna be a hard sell I guess, I don’t think most netcafes keep their PCs separated from their play area
hmm okay
I used to goto a store called Funcoland... they had TVS and consoles in a glass case built into the walll
the case was locked. but the controllers were accesble
(they were bought by Game Stoop)
thx for the input
that's what insurance is for
I can think of a few ways to do it
one easy way would be to use rackmount PCs in a locked cabinet in between each pod of tables or whatever
you shouldn't really have lag problems using long cables, but long cables will get very very cumbersome very quickly.
you can do HDMI over ethernet, and I think there are solutions where you'd put a dongle on each end with hdmi/usb stuff
Just put the PCs in locked cabinets
Make sure they have enough holes on the back for ventilation
Hmmmm how laggy is local WLAN you think, as they suggested earlier?
Cause like in tech offices that's a de facto requirement in lieu of the absolute cabling nightmare
Buy ASUS GeForce RTX 3090 Republic of Gamers Strix White Edition Graphics Card featuring Boostable to 1890 MHz, 10496 CUDA Cores, Ampere Architecture, 24GB of GDDR6X VRAM, 19.5 Gb/s Memory Speed, 384-Bit Memory Interface, HDMI 2.1 | DisplayPort 1.4a, 7680 x 4320 Max Digital Resolution, PCIe 4.0 Interface, Triple Axial-Tech Fans | AURA Sync RGB. ...

garbage... 1900 for that when you can get a ti model for that less than that
just make it white smh
Wut?!
Wut
There are already internet cables thicker than my leg in the office. Imagine wiring them to the couple hundred desks there
Cheap option would be powder coated wire cages to lock them in with the cables looped around to avoid yanking them out, or the more expensive option is fiberoptic display and usb from a back room
If you want expertise you might be able to contact convention game room staff for their tips. In my state is one called World9, for example. But I think some of them just rely on security and maybe those laptop table locks
if you want to let customers mess around on PCs might want to look into putting them into some kind of kiosk mode, or getting allowlist software
so that chucklefucks can't just install dumb shit on them
Are netcafes still a profitable business these days?
hard to say, the ones around here lost a ton of business when iphone came out
80% of their business dropped
they had to close down but that was ages ago
i dont think its self sustainable anymore it needs to be complimentary to another business to exist
The one thing that's profitable these days are the retro barcade type places. So I could see one where you served alcohol and had lounge couches for console maybe a pinball section, and some PCs.
Any hourly rates for the PCs would have to be cheap though and try to make your profit on the booze and appetizers or something IMHO.
Maybe some area for card or boardgames
that's why you put them inside locked "service" cages like others have said (and i belatedly noticed)
That’s what you use that ghost image stuff for, I forgot the name
But basically it just overlays ramdisk onto the hard drive so anything installed goes away after a reboot
I forgot what the heck they call that
Seems it’s called deep freeze
They used something like that when I was in high school lol. You could run anything you wanted
when I worked for my university we maintained an image repo and just blew away any computer the user helplessly fucked up putting bonzi buddy or whatever shit on it
help my PC is slow
hope you didn't leave anything on it, it's getting re-imaged
yeah
it was incredibly invasive behind the scenes and acted as a remote telemetry tool
plus it wasted a ton of up front processing power because whoever designed it was a shithead who decided to make all the animations CPU rendered
damn
there were so many of those stupid desktop "assistant" things back in the late 90s, but bonzi buddy was the most popular for some godforsaken reason
because people like funny monkeys
that's why those fucking ape NFTs were so popular
I mean, there was one that put a little stripper on your desktop
and bonzi was still more popular
¯_(ツ)_/¯
yes but your computer illiterate mom isn't going to put a stripper on the family computer
sure, but let's not forget that porn is the reason we have high capacity hard drives and fast internet lmao
phone screens literally increased in size the instant people figured out that cellular internet service was fast enough to watch porn on
the famous 10% informational website and the rest % is pure debauchery
Alright, time to settle this once and for all (or not). I've been thinking about using two separate PCI-E 6+2 pin cables instead of daisy chaining them. I've been hearing stuff that ranges from "daisy chaining is fine", to "using two separate cables is better". Since GPUs are so damn power hungry nowadays, do you guys think this might be a good move?
My PSU is basically a rebranded Seasonic Focus GX-850 which is why I'm asking
Not very user friendly, but often the most efficient method of resolution since you can re-image a machine in like 15mins.
yeah, absolutely
I've heard of doing that, also something called Deep Freeze that resets a PC to baseline every time it gets rebooted
I stopped troubleshooting stuff once the repo was online
"it's broke" and it isn't a hardware failure? re-image, fuck you
Since ostensibly students shouldnt install anything and all files should be saved to their network drive
not sitting here for an hour trying to figure out how you got super computer herpes
student accounts should never have install privileges
universal access list restriction 😔
Granted, you think there would just be a GPO preventing apps from being installed, or an Allow List for apps
that's more powerful than the windows XP machines I was in charge of
they were also just learning good practices for firewalling each building after some moron brought an MS blaster infected machine onto the network and took half the campus down
Oh, mid 2000s network "security" shudder
yeah
your options back then were "reformat" and "kick users in the face"
time to naked short nvidia stock
can probably get it for a song in six months when they announce a 50% drop in GPU revenue thank to the crypto bust
(nvidia notoriously misrepresents their crypto sales as "gaming" sector sales because they only consider GPU sales as "gaming" regardless of where the cards end up)
watch their Q3 report where they report their gaming sector revenue and you'll see what I mean
lmao
The writing was already on the wall with how places like Newegg are trying to fire sale their cards
I think on the WAN show they mentioned they saw some 3080s on ebay as low as $575 but I wonder if that is a scam or a burned out mining card heh
crypto boom, nvidia stock goes to the moon, crypto bust, nvidia stock eats shit
you can absolutely run a 30% under value nvda naked short and make a ton of money in a few months
Yeah normally I would say 40 series would see a large boost to Nvidia stock and crypto prices, but at this point the price is so low it won't make sense to do new mining for a while yet
crypto isn't going anywhere as long as there's a larger pullback in speculative investing
I don't understand that stuff enough to try shorting stock
it's doomed to this death spiral as smart money dumps liquidity into safe havens like t-bills and dividend funds
ok, so a stock short is functionally selling a stock at price X today, and re-purchasing it at price Y in the future
if Y is less than X, you win
if Y is more than X, you fucked up
Surely most people know that is going to happen though, so why would anyone buy your short
naked shorts are where it gets dangerous, because you're not loaning out something you own, you actually own nothing so you're on the hook for the premium of the sale and on the repurchase of the share
because they want the stock now
shorts are usually a hedge bet
the GME gamma squeeze is what happens when stock availability dries up and shorts come due
you can lose $infinity if you naked short something and the price spirals beyond what you made from the original sale
which is how reddit bankrupted melcap
Yeah I heard they went under recently with the market tanking
they were already grievously wounded from GME
reddit wiped something like $20 billion off melcap's ledger because of the gamma squeeze
Yeah that other hedge fund already bailed them out
way overleveraged on GME naked shorts and they never expected a bunch of baboons with computers to just blindly throw money at a dead company like that
under normal circumstances melcap's strategy would have made them loadsamoney
Yeah who was betting on GME back then. Heck realistically who is doing it now even.
GME's short interest is still fairly high, but the positions are far more conservative because of all the dipshit hodlers eating up the float
The price is still based on ppl hoping for some type of Omega squeeze, not revenue or business prospects
yeah, it's pure market distortion because of how finbros have structured stocks
derivative trading was a mistake
I like Yahoo Finance's page on Tesla with its P/E of 96 saying "Fairly Valued"
I don't know why people ride elon's dick so much
tesla has had what, 6 years to fix their quality issues?
and they still rank at the bottom in initial quality?
they're worse, on average, than hyundai was in the 80s
and hyundai was a budget brand that made absolute dogshit cars
I don't even think I was aware of Hyundai until the mid 90s
if you drove a hyundai accent up too steep of a hill the transaxle would blow out

couldn't have the AC on if you wanted to climb a 5 degree grade
or the engine didn't have enough power to climb it
As the rest of the market jumps on the EV wagon in the next 5 years, I think Tesla is gonna tumble pretty badly.
Which may be why he was doomsaying about bankruptcy last week
the ioniq 6 looks breddy gud and they said it'll be cheaper than the 5
I like the looks of the EV6 more than the Ioniq, but it's mostly the same platform
I thought daddy elon moved to the Free State of Texas because having no corporate tax would save tesla
oh wait, he just wanted to dodge paying taxes, never mind
Pretty much every rich person ever
isn't EV6 the ioniq 6?
hyundai's been barely on my radar so I don't know the difference
EV6 is the Kia EV using the same powertrain afaik
Hyundai and Kia are apparently owned by the same parent company, so they do some amount of platform sharing ala GM brands
yeah
https://videocardz.com/newz/intel-releases-arc-gpu-drivers-with-a770m-a550m-support-3dmark-optimization-toggle-now-available intel allowing us to disable benchmark optimization

I'm thinking the same
the funny thing is that the transition to mass market EVs is a great time for new companies to get in and disrupt things... and also established companies with a bad rep to improve their rep
-points at someone on jalopnik considering the cadillac lyriq the best EV- -hides-
i would like it a lot better if it had a normal trunk instead of that pseudo SUV look
You just had to stop at jalopnik

eh it's remarkable for a site that generally hates on american cars
poggin, the celestiq costing $300k
why not just buy a fuckin rolls royce EV for that much
it feels like they'll kinda become that luxury niche
like important for the initial boom of EV's, but no longer dominant
though wouldn't be surprised if Space X becomes bigger than tesla in profits
depending on how succesful starship is
but the lyriq costs 60k-ish
i'd take it over a model 3 all day long
i think model 3s are supposed to cost 40-50 though so that's quite a jump
Everything has to be a fucking SUV in the US market these days for whatever reason. I don't get it.
because americans want giant heavy SUVs
I'm 95% certain it's just because margins are higher on SUVs, so they neglected the platforms for their sedans and coupes to drive people into SUVs
if I get into an accident, I want the other person to die
europoors love hatchbacks, so it's not like the form factor is exclusively an american thing
Lag behind on bluetooth and builtin navigation and other features and oh look, people reluctantly go with the SUV. Then the automakers are like "Oh look! Our highest margin segment has booming sales! Guess we cancel all the normal cars now!"
it's also because SUVs are the most popular platform in america, owing to their size, weight, and perceived safety due to the above
Except for that whole rollover thing
And the whole "Pancake pedestrians, killing them, instead of having them glance off."
also, dogs are very popular these days
almost everyone I know who bought an suv did this because they wanted to carry their dog in the back
that's exactly why people want them
there's a really weird sentiment that in the event of an accident, the other person involved should die
I think the N64 cartridges are probably the most sturdy bc they seemed to have the thickest cases
more like noooo there's a speck of dust on my contacts I won't work at all
CDs were a massive improvement over cartridges 😔

I can hear this gif
idk. I remember there being some real downsides to buying the cartridge instead of the socket 370
i think it had a slower bus speed
I want to say P2 was like 266-300-333-400 ... and P3 started with 450?
I did a P3 build with a generic PSU that blew up and killed it, and later replaced it with a celery build
looks like they did 500-1ghz
I remember was it the P2 or P3 Celeron that was just an insane overclocker
You could like, double the clockrate in OC with the Celeron
the heatsink clip always covered up the cool looking hologram
it was cool being to yank the cpu with the heatsink attached, though!
plus with water coolers these days, sure why not.
I didn't realize they had Slot1 and Socket 370 of the same speeds between 800 and 1100. An odd choice.
Also didn't realize in general that P3 went back to normal sockets and had a range of 450-1400mhz. early 2000s was really wild for speed increases heh
I went from P2-300 to an AMD Thunderbird 1.1ghz, so I didn't pay much attention to Intel in that period
thunderbirds hitting 2.5GHz from like, 800 MHz was hilarious
just keep putting volts and it keeps clocking
now CPUs are like "oh you increased the frequency 1 Hz? hope you like sync errors everywhere and constant crashing"
yeah, transistor design was wild then
now it's incremental 1-2% gains YOY and a lot of "don't worry guys, the revolution is coming"
yea but my watch has a more powerful cpu than my computer did back then XD
That sounds too crazy but you're mostly right. I had the P2-300 in like 1998 and Prescott 3ghz it says was Feb 2004 so 6 years
and by late 2004 they were at 3.8ghz
ye
my christmas present in 98 was a cyrix 266
it was.. outdated by then of course
but it wasn't like buying a core duo today
It's interesting then how we pushed 4ghz by 2005 and then sorta hit a thermal wall on that for the next 10 years. Although I guess going multicore means you had to keep clocks down bc the cores are all close together
Going from P4 1.8 to X2 3800+ was
"You mean I can open a browser and an explorer window at the same time and not lag up for 30 seconds?"
yea i think at this point a lot of performance improvements come from custom logic being made to do specific things
like video encoding/decoding
a lot of what made 2000s computers irritating to watch youtube videos with, for example, was h264 decoding
Everyone rages about AVX512 now, but I don't really understand how that relates to the average user
it's like a kitchen full of gadget appliances vs one that has none
and having to cook popcorn in a frying pan
vs having a dedicated machine that makes popcorn perfectly and quicker
Haha yeah I remember for anime club I was showing 1080p encodes of Dennou Coil in like 2008 and the H264 decoding was using like 97% CPU. Now playing a video is like 3% CPU
It's hard for me to tell how good the gains really are these days though, since most of their benchmarks push multicore performance and such
When in reality, single-threaded IPC is still very important in games even if Unreal is pretty good at offloading to helper threads these days
I'm hoping the price of the 13900 isnt too high, but I assume since the 12900 was like 599, that they're going to charge at least 599 if not 649 for it
I got my 9900 on sale for like 430, otherwise I think they were normally going for 499
silicon has a frequency wall around 4GHz at room temperatures
the switching losses become bonkers no matter what your transistor node size is
5 GHz is the hard limit, getting over 5 requires very special conditions and/or sub-ambient cooling
it's why intel abandoned netburst, their theoretical model showed they could take netburst up to some shit like 8GHz before they needed to change uarch
but physics was like
Which is why I'm kinda sus on them talking about 5.5 5.8 even 6.0 ghz turbo
it might be possible if you have some specially doped silicon that can trigger that quickly
or a radical redesign of the SOI mosfet that's been in service for what, 25 years?
It lived a good life 🙏
Hopefully it lives long enough for 13th gen to release if you plan on staying intel
Mm yeah baby olde english
I can't afford new tech lol
😔
I also don't have the energy to build a new pc that'll just use obscene amounts of electricity
Shue come to USA
nah, that's not an option
Go amd apu next time then
sure ill come
! mute bidoro 1234567890
5600g isn't going to give me the same gaming performance as this 4690k/1080
I said next gen originally but then changed it next time
Sure maybe not but it’ll cut power consumption by far for playable performance
I might impulse purchase a laptop on a cc and then recycle other crap to the kids, idk
don't lie Lewis
Lewis the chewb enthusiast
i mean what're you other options since stuff is differently priced over there? generally speaking i'd go for a 12th gen laptop if going intel otherwise anything amd cpu wise would generally be better in terms of battery life and performance
not to mention the igpu being superior vs intel if using it for that case
That sounds amazing
outside of the 500gb nvme, you're fitting jack in there.
Got a link for us?
tech is so shit
overall that's pretty good but the cpu could be better and is the ram soldered/does it have an extra m.2 slot?
Well there's a reason I shoved in my own 2TB HDD in mine
yeah that's pretty decent for the price, ram can be changed and nvme expanded if i'm reading this right. make sure it has enough ports for your use case though otherwise it's pretty good overall
Ok, is this series new? It seems like unusually good price to performance if you ask me
2021
it's 11th gen i7 so I guess they want rid
it's white, and a small screen, idk if it's what I want
I hate tech
really hate it
lol i don't blame you
i would've recommended an amd one in that price category but looking at this they gimped the amd versions with shitty ram/gpus
8gb of ram and a 3050ti for the same price is awful....
Tbh it's enough to tempt me to replace my existing laptop... if I actually played anything more intensive.
i'd wait for next gen laptops, they'll have a kick ass apu in them when phoenix/dragon range apus come to them
plus battery life will probably be really good 🙏
I want something that's an upgrade on a 1080 if I buy anything
3070 should at least be that
yeah but going to laptop is a bit iffy
it will for sure be that plus dlss and crap if you care about that
and dldsr or whatever the fuck nvidia calls their all game scaling thing
but then I'm like, is the extra £200 worth it for something like https://www.box.co.uk/82JU00PWUK-Lenovo-Legion-5-AMD-Ryzen-7-16GB-RAM-512_4095716.html
or I spend £1300 and get this https://www.box.co.uk/82JY00GWUK-Lenovo-Legion-5-17-AMD-Ryzen-7-16GB-RAM-_4095717.html
AMD Ryzen 7 5800H Octa Core Processor
17.3" Full HD IPS 144Hz Screen
Windows 11 Home 64-bit
16GB DDR4 RAM
512GB M.2 NVMe SSD
Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 8GB Graphics
that Ryzen 5800H is going to shit on the 11th gen i7 I'd imagine
this one is basically the same as the other one just bigger screen
yeah, i personally don't like 17.3 though so i mean up to you if you go that route lol
it's too big of a laptop imo
I'd be using it as a desktop anyway
but yeah the 5800h is pretty damn good compared to 11th gen mobile
idk
I'd be sitting in the same place I'm currently using a 27"
ugh fuck all this nonsense
i wouldn't wanna use a laptop screen of any size over a nice desktop monitor
tricky part is high dpi vs normal dpi
I think you've missed the part where I'm poor
1366x768 17" lappy
pretty sure i've seen some dumbass on reddit compare a 17" acer with a 1366x768 screen to a macbook pro as the reason the macbook pro was overpriced
Come to america and 50% of the time you potentially can be somewhat wealthy
Honk with his usual lazy contributions
Cant believe ud call me lazy
I'm giving you solutions
Well in all fairness the wealthy bit these days requires working in big tech
And honestly it sounds more like 10% of the time you can be wealthy
until we go into a recession
soon ™️
Fucking a. Reddit updated their site and now it won't render if you're running tracking blockers
If Ghostery is running they basically don't load
reddit works for me but i use ublock only
retro: things that are about your age
there are apple towers in there, and those are basically ancient history
still late/end ppc era mac
the pizza box mac in my closet would like a word with them
with all its 66mhz of powah

XD
use wedge
more like 1%, and even that is mostly luck 😔
to be fair I was talking about taking on debt, and I don't think I will lol
poggin
at least it's closer to what you'll actually get in real applications now
which is to say, absolute dogshit
it's atleast better than the 1050ti performance for 30 dollars more than 1050ti msrp bullshit nvidia did
i wonder when they'll start doing 2660 and crap to blow intel out of the water
Bidori reminds me of that kid (AMD) who got bullied so much when a new player (Intel) came into the picture they just laid into them

no no no, they deserve it for "Releasing" it
but you get raytracing which is more to say than nvidia with their 1600 line

and according to nvidia cards without raytracing are bad or something along those lines
I can get raytracing on my 10 series GPU too and it will perform better
not true about the perform better but yeah
10 series eats shit when they try to raytrace
arc atleast has stuff to handle it
unless intel has dedicated compute units I don't believe they can actually do raytracing at parity with the 30 series
they do
1:1 raytracing at 10 fps, let's go

this is the a380 doing raytracing for benchmarks
and given a380 is pretty low on sku, it can only get better right? 😅
I'm having an issue w/ my second monitor
the screen keeps going black
I don't think it's a normal connection issue because the screen immediately turns back on if I do something on that monitor, ie typing or even just wiggling the mouse
but I can't find any relevant settings that may be affecting it
I've also tried factory resetting the monitor and resinstalling the drivers
both monitors have the same aspect ratio, and as far as I can tell none of the ports or cables are damaged

why couldn't chevy make this as an impala
damnnn that's within the margin of error!
I want to see the higher skus and how they perform for price to performance
that is the highest sku

whats the diff between
gold and red drives
and NAs drives can be used in regular systems right
like RE0 drives have like, a 10 year warranty
and some shit like 10 million hours MTBF
not getting your data back if they die tho
😳
LOl
but yeah if you have a $400 drive
having a warranty is probably a good thing
the enterprise drive will last a long-ass time
although the consumer one will too, the days of sudden head crashing are pretty much over
HDDs don't just mysteriously shit the bed in the middle of the night anymore
well...
I mean, it used to be bad in the bad old days
when you could buy a maxtor and there was a 30% chance the drive would just up and fuck itself within a month
or the godawful IBM deathstars
HDDs don't just die anymore, it's rare as shit to receive a DOA and even rarer to have a drive just eat shit under normal consumer use
oof
that isn't correct though
lol
my friend had his toshiba 3TB die in a matter of months
and toshiba are supposed to be decent
didn't toshiba sell their HDD group to HGST?
anything associated with HGST is still garbo as far as I know
seagate is good as long as you don't get got with the broken firmware that bricked some of their micros
i never had problems with seagate or maxtor but yeah, i got a few wd reds because the internet said they were good
seagate had a problem with barracudas a few years back
bad firmware that caused the micro to just go fuck goons and stop functioning after a few months
gigabyte
nah, it's doomed
I had to replace an old hdd after like a year and a half
The drive just got super fragmented
Running defrags just wouldn’t fix it
Replaced with an SSD though anyway
Because nobody bought Chevy cars lol
The last Imapala was a pretty decent car but nobody cared
why would they? the impala was a grocery getter and had no balls unless you bought the SS
The impala SS was a niche car on a dying platform in the 90s nobody bought that shit lmao
That was basically a send off car
“RWD cars are dying what can we make on the caprice chassis”
“Throw a corvette engine in it”
pretty much how any SS badged chevy is made lmao
Lutz was obsessed with speed and driving, he mandated every car they made had an SS trim which while cool, was really stupid when GM was broke
HHR SS BABY
lutz just wanted a dodge viper that wasn't a hangar queen
jesus, I worked with a guy who drove a monte like that
car charger
a knife storage port
I would love to run cadillac
I'd use all the old names >>
and get fired gloriously for making a car that lives up to those old names
definitely Eldorado, Seville, Fleetwood
and i'd get rid of the angry faces
and that's how i'd ruin the company 😄
The funny thing is Saturn wouldn't be a bad brand for stuff like the volt/bolt
yeah
saturn is pretty close to a forgotten brand at this point so they could resurrect it as their FUTURE TECH brand
one thing I wonder about
they're experimenting with bringing back hummer now
they could... just do the same with saturn/pontiac
but nah, gonna leave it dead forever in the "things GM mismanaged into the ground" vault
pontiac was always doomed to be a me-too brand since buick still exists
like idk why car brands need to have a full line of models
it promotes sad stuff like the corporate face
ugh I hate it when car brands do that
"let's facelift all our cars to look like that other one!"
-puts rounded front clip on a boxy car-
IT LOOKS LIKE SHIT!
i keep accidentally clicking that button in outlook
looks like ass on the grey theme
(which also looks like ass)
the grey theme looks like a bad attempt at copying outlook 97
@hard drift grandpa you around?
What?
what are your thoughts on something like https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/kGyRzf with my existing GTX 1080 thrown in
PC Builder - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X, NZXT H510 ATX Mid Tower
Go x3d or 5900x since 5800x is normally hot vs others
see, I value your opinion, your wise old man opinion
5900x is £100 more, not keen
the 12th gen bang for buck cpu is 12400f, right?
PC Builder - Intel Core i5-12400F, NZXT H510 Flow ATX Mid Tower
Yeah although no igpu if you care
hmm
But yeah that’s better
5950
£627.83, throw in GTX 1080 for now
I wonder how much better it'd really perform than this though
5950 is trash compared to 5900 or x3d
I have been window shopping a 3080ti for a min
At lower resolutions like 1080p a lot better
5950x is the king me thought
I nearly bought an open box 6800h/3070ti laptop for £1250, but idk man
well close to the i9-12900k at least
Not even close unless you’re talking multithreaded
what are you saying to me
The desktop would beat it bad unless talking energy
i9-12900k is the best or am I misreading
5800x3d for price otherwise ks pretty much
depends what you're doing
hmm
oh duh
don't buy anything today shue
amazon prime day in a few days
they might have a bargain
100% true and newegg if you have it
newegg is barely a thing here
bummer
they got a pretty big sale going or starting right now
stuff seems to be in stock ish now at least mostly
newegg uk laptops at least are much more expensive by the look of it
@hard drift does the regular 12400 perform the same as the 12400f, just also has ipgpu for £18?
About the same yeah

not bad but i don't like the color personally 😭
I like how they have hagerty insurance on it lol
https://videocardz.com/newz/amd-fsr-2-0-mod-is-now-available-in-dying-light-2 modders doing gamers good 🙏
Probably plans to do abunch of performance work to it
aye
@deep sapphire we know those trash chevies be needing it
Shut

is world transfer currently down?
home server transfer yes is down until after 6.18/dc visit
mental
honestly think there should be limits on power usage for entertainment in today's world
1600w
I mean it's kingpin, those are expected to be high watt
you're high watt
Just waiting on tech to innovate at this point, we are pretty much at the breaking point
yeah some smart nerd needs to figure out clean, safe, unlimited power asap
:/ I mean like core efficiency
Power supplies havnt changed ever, not much room for improvement besides going 12VO or w/e
Plus now there are now massive talks on power spikes and mitigating it
High watt yea but not insane watt like that… but I guess it shows how bad this gen was for efficiency and such
Pcie 5.0 atx3.0 will help with that luckily
That kingpin card has it
I really hope not
It will be
I know
100% for nvidia, hoping not so much for amd
Nvidia was already going down the path with 3090ti 😔
Yeah, unless apus become that good
Lol.
I know they’ll become atleast way better than now
Excellent powers of deduction
"new apus offer 20% performance uptick for 300% power draw of previous generation"
We will see based on am5 gen CPUs really
Gpus have absolutely plummeted
I mean, I can't afford to buy or run it, but that's so much cheaper than a few months ago
Yeah
Wtf
In store stock sufferin
Ah rip
that's what newegg uk looks like, comedy
that's actually tempting
stick that in with the 12400f partpicker yesterday, that's be under 1200
That’s pretty good tbh
damn
@deep sapphire Ikea chair threads suck and I hate their hex wrenches so I took out my mini ugga dugga
You mean 2000w gpus?
You’re lucky i lost the photo
Good
At my parents home, they are all DeWalt shikls
I’ll go grab it again smh
I ain't carrying my shit over
NO DEWALT ON MY CART
DELETE THIS
Dwalt
Let’s see the chair
Sanpellegrino is thr sparkling drinks brand yes?
Im guessin it taste like.. fizzy lemonade?
She lied about it being done because the DeWalt impact driver shitty batteries don’t work right

Jokes on you Hank, these don't get used so they don't die
DeWalt batteries be like “how much juice do I got left… wai- wtf I press the button and it briefly blinks the battery life!?”
Shush dewalt simp
nuclear powered gaming PC
@potent arrow hank called canada a 3rd world country 😭
it is
LMAO
what's the difference between a drill from harbor freight and a drill from dewalt
isn't harbor freight the place with top tier warranty?
Hey guys my brother and i are both having the same issues trying to resub right now. We're both getting this weird error that says this:
