it's possibly my usb-a extension is starting to flake out

but I don't even think that's the issue, since if I connect straight to the mac with a usb-c to usb-c... even with no other usb devices plugged in, it still acts hell flaky

so maybe the usb controller in the mic is failing

the errors showing up in the mac's console log seem more towards that kinda behavior. but then why does it work fine 100% of the time on windows? no idea.
